Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this adaptation of Stephen King's novel, Arnie (the main character) finds this poor old rusted hulk named 'Christine' and falls in love with it. When restored, she was big, red and evil. What type of car is 'Christine'?

Answer: 1958 Plymouth Fury

The local punks mess up Christine (just envious I guess). Christine repairs herself, then goes on a killing spree! Arnie's new ride is also extremely jealous of his new girlfriend Leigh. Good fun movie, directed by John Carpenter :)
2. In the 1971 film 'Vanishing Point'. Kowalski has to deliver a car and ends up out-running the law, meeting various hippies & rednecks along the way. What was Kowalski driving?

Answer: A white 1970 Dodge Challenger

Interesting fact - At the end of this flick, the movie crew loaded a Camaro up with explosives, attached a cable from the Challenger to the Camaro (.25 mile long) and towed the Camaro into the bulldozers at 80+ mph! (If you look hard you'll see the 1967 Camaro engulfed in flames) thus ending Kowalski spectacularly. Great film!
3. Steve, Laurie, Curt, Milner, Carol, Toad, Debbie, Falfa & The Pharos were all a part of this cruising classic. What is the name of this flick?

Answer: American Graffiti

Francis Ford Coppola helped George Lucas get this project off the ground in 1973. American Graffiti takes place in 1962, a one-night multi layer story. The movie climaxes in a drag racing duel between Milner's yellow '32 Ford & Falfa's mean '55 Chevy. It also has an excellent soundtrack.
4. In Canada this flick was known as the 'Road Warrior' but it goes by 'Mad Max 2' as well. What exactly was Max's Interceptor?

Answer: 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT

Whew, after researching this question, I see the Aussie's have some serious machines 'Down under'! (I wish we could get some of those rigs over here in Canada). Mad Max 2 (or The Road Warrior) is a killer flick; it's the best in the series. If you haven't seen it go rent it now!
5. 'Herbie the Love Bug' was a cute little Beetle with racing stripes and a number. What was Herbie's number?

Answer: 53

In 1968 Herbie burst on to the silver screen. Sped up film and gravity defying stunts make this film a riot to watch. (My kids love it !)
6. The 1974 original 'Gone in 60 seconds' (H.B.Halicki) gets right to the point of the movie, listing 'Eleanor' as the only star in the opening credits! What is Eleanor?

Answer: 1973 Mach 1 Mustang

This film has the most 'hair raising' 40-minute car chase I've ever seen. The acting is lame, the story is weak but... Haliki's driving makes up for it in a big way. The 'real' Eleanor (her banged and battered self) still runs, and was last seen posing with the new Eleanor (Gone In 60 Seconds, 2000) at the Peterson Museum.
7. A 1977 horror classic, 'The Car' is about a Lincoln from Hell. James Brolin stars as the sheriff trying to save his small town from this unholy terror. This infamous 1971 Lincoln was customized by who?

Answer: George Barris

This flick was a stinker when it first came to theaters, but has risen to cult status. Still gripping, if not silly at times. Worth the watch.
8. What year is the gray primer Chevy that James Taylor is driving in Two-Lane Blacktop?

Answer: 1955

The characters had no names, 'the driver' (James Taylor), 'the mechanic' (Brian Wilson), 'GTO' (Warren Oats) & 'the girl' (Laurie Bird). The script would fit in this little box (you think I'm exaggerating :D). The story is lame, but that Chevy rules! A cult classic once again.
9. Mark Hamill was the star of this 1978 car classic. It's about a kid who is obsessed with retrieving the school's 'heavily customized' project car. What was the name of the movie?

Answer: Corvette Summer

Some say the 'Vette' in Corvette Summer was quite possibly the ugliest car ever built! To a kid who was 12 years old at the time (moi), it was the 'most wicked' car I had ever laid eyes on.
10. In the movie 'Bullitt', Steve McQueen gets into a serious car chase with an R/T Charger. What was Bullitt driving?

Answer: 1968 Mustang Fastback

Filmed in 1968, Bullitt has a 10 min car chase that set the precedent for all other chase flicks that followed. There is nothing cooler than a San Francisco car chase.
11. The 'tweaked out' 1981 Delorean was the star of this movie, plus two sequels. This car had the ability to travel through time. What was the name of the first flick?

Answer: Back to the Future

Here's a funny fact about the first Back to the Future... Marty runs over one of Peabody's pine trees when he zips back to 1955. When he returns to 1985, what was once the Twin Pines Mall is now called the Lone Pine Mall. Ahh, the paradoxes of time travel. :)
12. This little machine showed up in the 1966 movie 'Munster, Go Home!'. We all know Herman's family car was the 'Munster Coach', what was the name of the coffin race car?

Answer: Drag-u-la

Dragula was built out of an Ornate Owens-Corning casket (sitting on a tube chassis) with a dual 4bbl, 360c.i. Ford mill and 4-speed gearbox. It's rumored this thing would do 180 mph in the quarter mile!
Rob Zombie liked the car so much, he wrote a song about it! :D
13. What was the name of the Ghostbusters 1959 Cadillac ambulance?

Answer: Ecto-1

Paranormal fun, who could forget the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man?!
14. In the 1976 car classic 'The Gumball Rally' the race came down to 2 cars. A Ferrari 365 GTB/4 & an authentic 427 Shelby Cobra. Who won - the Ferrari or the Cobra?

Answer: Cobra

The original (and the best) cross-country race flick, these characters had to make it from New York to Long Beach. It ultimately comes down to a race between Franco (Raul Julia) & Bannon (Michael Sarrazin). There was no silly film speed ups in this flick (when you saw the speedo in the Cobra going north of 100 mph...it was really doing it!)
15. In 'Smokey and the Bandit', our heroes have to bootleg 400 cases of Coors beer across the Texas border. Bandit runs blocker for the Snowman to draw the cops away from the transport. This 'black and gold' beauty stole the show. What was the Bandit driving?

Answer: 1977 Trans-Am

Besides being funny, Smokey and the Bandit was full of excellent stunts. While Bandit was drawing attention away from Snowman, he ends up picking up a 'runaway bride'. Her ex beau just happens to be the son of Sheriff Buford T. Justice! That's when real chase begins! Side note - this movie 'sold' a lot of Pontiac Trans-Ams!
