Answer: John A. Macdonald

John A. Macdonald was born in Scotland but came over to Canada when he was five. He died while Prime Minister at the age of 76.
2. How many years, in total, did the first Prime Minister 'reign'?

Answer: 19

He became PM in 1867 and held office until 1873. John A. became PM again in 1878 until his death June 6, 1891.
3. Who held the longest unbroken tenure as Prime Minister?

Answer: Wilfrid Laurier

Laurier held PM from 1896 - 1911. When Laurier went to Saskatchewan in 1910 he bought a newspaper from a newspaper boy. The two had a short conversation. The newspaper boy was John Diefenbaker, who would become the 13th Canadian Prime Minister.
4. Who held the shortest total duration of term as Prime Minister?

Answer: Charles Tupper

He was PM from May, 1896 - July, 1896. He served for two months and seven days. He was also the oldest to assume office at the age of 75.
5. Who held the longest total duration as Prime Minister?

Answer: Mackenzie King

Twenty-one years, five months and one day between 1921 and 1948. He had three separate terms because Arthur Meighen was PM in 1926 and Richard Bennet was PM from 1930 to 1935.
