Greenland uses proportional representation which results in the percentage of votes received equating to the percentage of seats won in parliament. A parliamentary term is 4 years long.

Answer: Landstinget

Greenland's parliament is named the Landstinget in Danish. In the native language, Kalaallit, the chamber is called the Kalaallit Nunaanni Inatsisartut.
The Tynwald is the parliament of the Isle of Man. The Althing is the name of the Icelandic parliament and the Folketing is the Danish parliament.
3. Which political party won the 2002 Greenlandic parliamentary elections?

Answer: The Forward Party

The Forward Party or Siumut succeeded in this election with 28.5% of the overall vote. Under the proportional representation system this majority gave them 10 out of the 31 seats available. The Inuit Community Party came in second place with 8 seats whilst the Feeling of Community Party won 7 seats in the chamber.

Other parties that won seats in this election were the Democrats and an independent candidate. This election decided the executive branch of the parliament.

Answer: Hans Enoksen

Hans Enoksen became Prime Minister of Greenland on December 14, 2002. Before this Mr. Enoksen held the post of Minister for Fisheries, Hunting and Settlements and was party chairman in 2001.
Daniel Skifte, Ole Lynge and Anders Andreassen have been the Chairperson of the parliament.

As Kitaa was the most populated county, it had the most municipalities, fifteen in total. Tunu had two and Avannaa had just one.

Greenland joined the EC, (now European Union,) in 1973 but withdrew from the organization in 1985 because of heated disputes over fishing rights.
