The last two states to join the Union were Alaska and Hawaii, Nevada was already a part of the union. Alaska joined in January of 1959 and Hawaii joined in August of 1959. Even though they joined the same year Hawaii had to wait another year before its star got added to the union on the flag.

It had to wait because once a new state is added to the Union it has to wait till the 4th of July to be added to the flag.
