1. London and Southampton
Answer: M3
The M3 is just under 59 miles in length, and runs from the London suburb of Sunbury-on-Thames to the port city of Southampton in Hampshire. It has a couple of service stations, at Fleet and Winchester.
2. London and Swansea
Answer: M4
The M4 runs for 189 miles from West London to Pontarddulais, a few miles north of Swansea in south Wales. The motorway originally crossed the Severn estuary via the Severn Bridge, but was rerouted to the new Second Severn Crossing in 1996. Some of the larger towns and cities served by the M4 include Reading, Bristol and Cardiff.
3. Edinburgh and Glasgow

The M8 connects Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh, and her largest city, Glasgow. The western end of the M8 is near the village of Langbank in Renfrewshire, and the total length of the motorway is 60 miles. 4. Birmingham and Exeter

One of the longer UK motorways, the M5 stretches for 163 miles from its junction with the M6 near Birmingham to the city of Exeter in Devon. It serves a number of large cities in the southwest of England, including Worcester, Gloucester and Bristol.
5. London and Folkestone

The M20 is around 50 miles in length, and connects London's orbital motorway, the M25, with the Kent port of Folkestone. The main vehicular access to the Channel Tunnel is located close to the southern end of this motorway.
6. London and Leeds
Answer: M1
The M1 runs for 193 miles from London to Leeds. It passes several major cities in the English Midlands and Yorkshire, including Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield. Britain's oldest motorway service station, Watford Gap, opened on the M1 in 1959.
7. Carlisle and Rugby
Answer: M6
The longest motorway in the UK at 262 miles, the M6 runs from the England-Scotland border, just north of Carlisle, to near Rugby in the Midlands, where it joins the M1. The section in Lancashire which by-passes Preston was the first section of motorway ever opened in the UK, in 1958.
8. Hull and Liverpool

The "trans-Pennine" motorway stretches for 107 miles from Liverpool in the west to North Cave, just outside Hull, in the east. It serves some of England's biggest cities, including Manchester, Bradford and Leeds. It shares part of its route with the M60 Manchester orbital motorway, with M60 junction numbers being used for this particular section.
9. Edinburgh and Perth
Answer: M90
The M90 is 30 miles long, and runs from near Kirkliston, just outside of Edinburgh, to the city of Perth (Scotland's former capital city). It crosses the Forth Road Bridge and has one service station, at Kinross.
10. London and Cambridge
Answer: M11
The M11 is 55 miles long, and runs from North-east London to just outside the university city of Cambridge. This motorway serves London Stansted Airport, and has one service station, Birchanger Green near Bishop's Stortford.
