Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the Bridges was born 2 days after the Pearl Harbour attack?

Answer: Beau Bridges

Beau Bridges was born on 9th December 1941 by candlelight, in a power blackout in Hollywood, following the attack on Pearl Harbour which was two days previous.
Beau has an impressive stack of awards including three Emmys, two Golden Globes, a Grammy and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, situated right next to his father's and brother's stars. Safe to say he has moved from candlelight to starlight.
Red Crew's smpdit exudes her own personal starlight.
2. Beau Bridges and Jeff Bridges starred together in which 1989 film, with Michelle Pfeiffer?

Answer: The Fabulous Baker Boys

Romantic-comedy-drama-musical film "The Fabulous Baker Boys" was released in 1989. The titular "Baker Boys" were played by Beau and Jeff Bridges, which was an unusual occurrence - it wasn't often they were involved in a project together. Jeff was approached first to play Jack, and despite the director's reluctance to cast real-life siblings, once he met Beau, he was persuaded to change his mind, feeling that Beau was perfect for the role of Frank. Michelle Pfeiffer played the love interest, singer Susie Diamond, performing a sultry rendition of 'Makin' Whoopee' whilst cavorting on a grand piano.

The film achieved critical acclaim, but this wasn't reflected in box office sales. It was nominated for, but didn't receive, four Academy awards. Red Crew's smpdit would be more likely sing about makin' whoopie pies.

She is a gifted baker, not a gifted singer.
3. Jeff wrote a 'transcript of a five day hang' that explored the parallels between which two topics?

Answer: The "Dude" from Big Lebowski and Zen Buddhism

The book, "The Dude and the Zen Master", is a stream of consciousness recounting of conversations between Bridges and his Zen master, Bernie Glassman. The two are apparently great friends, and the tales they tell get personal and full of humor while also tackling heavy topics and explaining Buddhist tenets. It may be hard, but the goal in life is to be as 'The Dude', and simply abide.
Player pusdoc strives to find the right rug to tie the whole room together.
4. Who is the father of "Rizzoli and Isles" actor Jordan Bridges?

Answer: Beau Bridges

Starring as Frankie Rizzoli on "Rizzoli and Isles" (2010-2016), Jordan Bridges is the son of Beau and Julie Bridges and nephew of Jeff Bridges. Jordan had two roles as a child actor, one directed by his father, the other involving the Bridges clan. As an adult he has featured in movies and television alike, with "Rizzoli and Isles" his first main role. Beau is the elder of the two brothers and has four other children. Casey, Dylan, Emily and Ezekiel.
Phoenix Rising's leith90 learned something new, that Rizzoli isn't just pasta. Who would have thought.
5. Which 1986 'made for TV drama film' included roles for five Bridges, (albeit one was uncredited)?

Answer: The Thanksgiving Promise

'The Thanksgiving Promise' was a television movie about saving a goose from being the 'star' of the Thanksgiving feast. It was a true family affair for the Bridges clan. The movie starred, and was directed by, Beau Bridges. His father, Lloyd Bridges played the role of a neighbor, and Lloyd's wife, Dorothy, played his wife in the movie. Jordan Bridges, played his son, the boy trying to get the town to save the goose. Jeff Bridges played a neighbor, but the role was uncredited.
Jaknginger bridged the gap with this question.
6. Not just an actor, singer, author, Jeff has another creative string to his bow. What talent was he encouraged to try by Karen Allen, his 'Starman' costar?

Answer: Photography

Jeff Bridges has published books of his photographs and has featured in top photography publications such as "Aperture" and "Premiere". In 2013 he was given special recognition at the International Center for Photography's Infinity Award ceremony. He uses a wide-angle camera to capture "behind the scenes" black and white images from movie sets - his photographs tell the story of the work behind creating fiction.
Player pusdoc of Phoenix Rising's Red Crew might just try using her wide angle lens a bit more after viewing Bridges' photographs.
7. Lloyd Bridges attended UCLA where he studied which subject?

Answer: Political science

California native, Lloyd Bridges graduated from high school in 1930 and went on to attend UCLA to study political science. He met his wife, Dorothy Simpson, while in college. He and his son Beau are listed as members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Phoenix Rising's Red Crew member jaknginger chose not to join a sorority in college.
8. Jeff isn't the only author in the family; which skill, picked up whilst filming 'Sea Hunt', did Lloyd explore in a book called 'Mask and Flippers'?

Answer: Skin diving

Skin diving is a mix of snorkeling and free diving, it doesn't necessarily involve any portable breathing apparatus unlike scuba. More time is spent on the surface with a snorkel mask and any diving below the surface entails an ability to hold your breath. Lloyd Bridges played Mike Nelson, the ex-navy diver in the 1958 series 'Sea Hunt' where he honed his skill as a diver, putting pen to paper to co-author the aforementioned book.
Red Crew's smpdit can't dive as she really doesn't like getting her hair wet.
9. 'Beau' is a nickname bestowed upon him by his parents after 'Beau Wilkes' in 'Gone with the Wind'. What is his christened name?

Answer: Lloyd Vernet Bridges III

Born Lloyd Vernet Bridges III in 1941 to Lloyd Vernet Bridges Jr. (also known simply as 'Lloyd Bridges') and his wife Dorothy Dean Bridges. The couple were reading 'Gone With the Wind' at the time and liked the name given to the son of 'Ashley Wilkes'. Beau is the elder brother of fellow actor Jeff and has a sister named Lucinda, an actress known as Cindy Bridges. Another sibling, Garrett, unfortunately died as a baby.
Red Crew's smpdit is glad her parents were not reading 'Moby Dick' when she was born.
10. Jeff became the spokesperson for which campaign, run by the philanthropic organization Share Our Strength?

Answer: No Kid Hungry

Share Our Strength is a non-profit organisation working to end child hunger in the United States and around the world. In 2017 they launched their No Kid Hungry campaign to combat childhood starvation and hunger across the U.S. This campaign focuses on school lunches for all children, grants to community food banks for assistance with food and supply equipment, raising awareness of the issue and as an advocate for political reform.
Jeff Bridges has been an anti-hunger supporter of children for around 30 years, and in 2010 became the National spokesperson for the 'No Kid Hungry' campaign.
