Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Julie Newmar #1

Julie Newmar was the second choice to play Catwoman in the 1966 "Batman" TV series. She wasn't happy about being second choice or about the short notice on the role because she lived in New York City while "Batman" taped in California. Her brother's excitement was the reason she accepted the role. Julie did her own makeup for the series and the only costume change she made was lowering the belt from her waist to her hips giving her a more feminine look.

Julie Newmar was only in two episodes of the first season of "Batman" and eleven episodes in the second season.
2. Lee Meriweather

Lee Meriweather took over as Catwoman for the 1966 "Batman: The Movie" because Julie Newmar was unavailable. In Lee's audition, she acted cat-like and got the part. The movie was already filming when Lee stepped in as Catwoman so there are scenes that Catwoman should be in that she wasn't because an actress hadn't been chosen yet.

Lee Meriweather would later appear in two episodes for season two of the "Batman" TV series as Lisa Carson.
3. Eartha Kitt

Eartha Kitt was the first African-American woman to play Catwoman in the third season of "Batman". As a way to raise ratings on the third season of Batman's sinking ship, Yvonne Craig joined the show as Batgirl and Eartha Kitt joined as Catwoman. Unlike Newmar and Meriweather's Catwoman, Eartha and Adam had no flirtation as Catwoman and Batman in the three episode stint Eartha had as Catwoman.
4. Michelle Pfeiffer

Michelle Pfeiffer was chosen to play Catwoman after the first actress became pregnant before filming. She had one month to train in yoga, gymnastics, and martial arts. Michelle also excelled in whip training in that month. While "Batman Returns" was given mixed reviews, Michelle was applauded by every critic for her role as Catwoman. Her role as Catwoman became the starting point for a stand-alone movie about Selina Kyle.

When "Batman Forever" was pitched, Michelle dropped out as Catwoman after Tim Burton left the project.
5. Adrienne Barbeau

Adrienne Barbeau voiced Catwoman in the animated TV series "Batman: the Animated Series". She voiced the character from 1992 to the series end in 1995. When she auditioned for Catwoman, it took Adrienne thirty seconds to read the six line audition. At the time, Adrienne wasn't familiar with Catwoman so she read the lines without inflection or accent.

When the trailer came out for "The Dark Knight Rises", Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman) and Adrienne Barbeau (voice of Catwoman) did an animated version of the trailer.
6. Halle Berry

Halle Berry took the coveted role of Catwoman in a stand-alone movie in 2014. The character's name became Patience Phillips instead of Selina Kyle. She trained in martial arts and whip training and had a say in the design of the Catwoman costume. To mimic a cat, Halle spent time watching National Geographic videos of different species of cats.

The 2004 movie flopped and became a Razzie nominee in seven categories. Halle won for worst actress and accepted her award while holding the Oscar she won for "Monster's Ball". In her acceptance speech, Halle told everyone her mother once told her she had to accept the losses in the same way she accepted the wins.
7. Gina Gershon

For "The Batman" Saturday morning animated TV series, Gina Gershon voiced Catwoman. Her character was on five episodes of the sixty-five episode series. Growing up, Gina was a fan of Catwoman so being able to voice her was fun. For the character, Gina voiced Catwoman as more mischievous than villainous.
8. Anne Hathaway

Because the look of Catwoman was inspired by Hedy Lamarr, Anne Hathaway studied Lamar as her inspiration for how Catwoman walked and talked. When she first auditioned for Christopher Nolan, Anne believed she was auditioning for the role of Harley Quinn, as did the other actresses that were auditioning.
9. Camren Bicondovo

Camren Bicondovo is the youngest woman to play a live action Catwoman. She was twelve when she began filming her role on "Gotham". As Selina Kyle, Camren watched the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents. She used her dance skills to help her portray a character she didn't know much about. Camren was so well liked by cast and audience that Selina Kyle was brought on for all five seasons of the series; however, Selina was played by an adult actress in the series finale of "Gotham".

Camren Bicondovo was nominated for a Saturn award for her portrayal of Selina Kyle in "Gotham", but lost out to Maisie Williams from "Game of Thrones".
10. Julie Newmar

Julie Newmar reprised her role as Catwoman but this time for the 50th anniversary of the "Batman" TV series with an animated movie titled, "Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader". At the time the movie aired, Julie Newmar, Burt Ward, and Adam West were the only surviving characters of the original TV series.
11. Zoe Kravitz #1

Animation was Zoë Kravitz's first foray into the world of Catwoman. "The Lego Batman Movie" opened in 2017. "The Lego Batman Movie" was not only Zoë's first time playing Catwoman, but also her first time lending her voice to an animated movie.
12. Saana Lathan

Saana became the voice of Catwoman for the animated TV series "Harley Quinn". Saana loved voicing the character of Selina because of how confident the character was written. She joined the animated series in season two. Saana said that getting the role of Catwoman was wonderful because she spent time around Eartha Kitt as a child for the musical, "Timbuktu".
13. Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera's last film role was voicing Catwoman in the two-part movie, "Batman: The Long Halloween". The producer of the movie, Butch Lukic, said that Naya brought great vocal range to the character of Catwoman. She was chosen because of her starring role as Santana on "Glee".

"Batman: The Long Halloween" was dedicated to the memory of Naya Rivera who drowned in 2020.
14. Elizabeth Gillies

Elizabeth Gillies watched Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman and fell in love with the part so when she was asked to voice Catwoman for the animated "Catwoman: Hunted" movie, Elizabeth jumped at the chance. The other thing that attracted Elizabeth to the role was that Catwoman was on her own in the movie. As for Catwoman's voice, Elizabeth said she used Michelle Pfeiffer's speech pattern and added some Mae West into certain words. If the opportunity ever came, Elizabeth said she would love to play a live-action Catwoman.
15. Zoe Kravitz

Zoë played the live-action Catwoman as she was portrayed in a 2015 "Catwoman comic: a bisexual woman. Before the comic book came out, Catwoman was portrayed as heterosexual and flirtatious with Batman. In the 2022 movie, Selina Kyle has not yet fully made herself into Catwoman.

Zoë filmed the movie in cold weather with restrictive clothing. She liked working with director Matt Reeves because he asked her opinion on a scene she was in or what she thought Selina would do in a particular moment.
