The color GREEN represents our forests (the Amazon is here); YELLOW was for the gold (which is mostly gone now. Where? Ask the British and the Portuguese); WHITE is for peace (despite our ongoing internal war against corruption and drugs) and finally BLUE for this great sky above us.

Answer: African slaves

The mixture of mainly these three races and a few others like South-eastern Asians (Japanese and Chinese), is what make this country great. The Portuguese colonized Brazil, but Brazil was also invaded by the French, the Dutch, and the British. There were colonies formed in Brazil whose people came from Germany, Italy, the U.S.A., making a great melange of cultures!
3. In which region is the Amazon River located?

Answer: North

Brazil is made of five regions: North, South, Northeast, Southeast and Central-east. The Amazon is located on the north region, south of the Guianas and Suriname (those are countries in the north of South America). This river has the most water flowing through it in the world, and, believe it or not, many years ago, the Amazon River used to flow west and emptied into the Pacific Ocean!

This dance had its origins from capoeira moves somewhere in the middle of the 19th century and is the typical dance of Pernambuco, a State on northeastern Brazil.Its first steps started in the streets of Recife by the end of the 19th century. Today tourists from everywhere come here during the carnival, especially to be part of the "galo da madrugada" a street event that brings over a million people to Recife.

We were colonized by the Portuguese therefore we speak Portuguese, but we also had indigenous languages such as Tupi-Guarani, Tucano, Tupiniquim, and Apalaí, but also there are many influences from some African languages like Nigerian. The official language is Portuguese, which is used in schools and government.

Since 1960 Brasília has been the capital of this country. Before was Rio de Janeiro and before 1763 the capital was Salvador, Bahia. Brasília was inaugurated by Juscelino Kubitscek who was the president then. He wanted to move the capital to a central location. The city was designed by Lúcio Costa and was built by Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle.

The Boto, also known as the Pink River Dolphin is one of the beauties of the Amazon. It is the only dolphin in the world that has neck movement, which is amusing to watch. Legend says it turns into a handsome young man that goes after girls to mate with them.

Answer: Rodrigo Santoro

Rodrigo Junqueira dos Reis Santoro is a very talented young man, he has done several movies and soap operas, including the movie "Carandiru". He was born in Rio De Janeiro, and was always talented in acting, because he used to run a puppet theatre when he was very young. He plays Paolo in "Lost", and played Karl in "Love Actually" and Xerxes in "300".
9. What's the main religion of Brazil?

Answer: Roman Catholicism

There are over 70% Catholics in Brazil, followed by Protestants end evangelical Christians, Spiritists, Afro-Brazilian religions, Atheists and Agnostics. In Brazil there are several churches, some built over 400 years ago.
Brazil is a very religious country, proof of that is our famous statue "Christ the Redeemer" looking down on Rio de Janeiro, it is at 710 m above sea level. The statue itself is 38 meters high.
10. How many times did the Brazilian football team win the World Cup in the 20th century?

Answer: 4 times

Brazil won in 1958 (Sweden), 1962 (Chile), 1970 (Mexico), and in 1994 (U.S.A.), and additionally, the Brazilian team won again in 2002 (Japan and South Korea). Brazil has also been the runner-up in 1950 (Brazil) and 1998 (France). Brazil has a very strong tradition of football, and it is played by a large part of the population.

Many great footballers have come from Brazil, like Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Zé Maria, Romario, Pelé, Edu, Ronaldinho, Gérson, and the list goes on forever!
