Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lieutenant Saavik takes her Kobayashi Maru test

This event begins the film. Saavik ultimately fails the test, which is to be expected; the test is a kind of "Catch-22" test in which it is impossible to win. Or so we are led to believe. Admiral James T. Kirk, who is observing the test, was able to succeed in it when he was a cadet after retaking the test; he programmed the computers to make it possible to win. According to him, he hates no-win situations--meaning, as his son David points out, that he has never faced death. That is about to change.
2. Admiral Kirk celebrates his birthday

The first hint we get that it is Kirk's birthday is that he has been given a gift: a copy of Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cites", given to him by Spock. "'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' Some internal meaning, Spock?" he asks. "None that I am aware of, Admiral, other than to wish you a happy birthday," Spock replies.

Later that night, Dr. "Bones" McCoy arrives at Kirk's apartment with some gifts: Romulan Ale and a pair of glasses. He recognizes Kirk's depression and gives a prescription for it: get out of an office and get back the command of a ship.
3. Captain Clark Terrell and Commander Pavel Chekov are captured by Khan

Terrell and Chekov are officers aboard the USS Reliant, a Starship with an important mission: to find a planet totally devoid of life on which to test the Genesis project. They think they have found the perfect planet when they stumble across a seemingly-desterted habitation.

It is only when Chekov sees records mentioning the ship Botany Bay that he realizes that they have stumbled across Khan and his followers, but by then it is too late. Khan and his followers arrive and take them prisoner.
4. Admiral Kirk conducts an inspection of the USS Enterprise

This inspection is of both the ship itself and its personnel. Now being used as a training ship, the Enterprise is under the command of Spock. Kirk eschews the formality of the inspection, commenting that Scotty keeps it as spotless as ever. This inspection is about to turn into something much more dangerous...
5. The USS Enterprise leaves Space Dock

It is supposed to just a routine training run, with Saavik in command and Kirk and Spock merely looking on. Once a distress call comes from the space station Regula I, however, Spock offers command of the ship to Kirk. Kirk at first hesitates, thinking he will hurt Spock, but the Vulcan soon sets him right, saying, "I have no ego to bruise." Kirk is back in command of the Enterprise.
6. Crew from the USS Enterprise are shown the test of the Genesis project

Trapped underground by Khan and his crew, Kirk, McCoy, and Saavik are shown what progress has been made on the Genesis project by its science personnel who escaped Khan. While there, they are attacked by Chekov and Terrell, but Terrell dies and Chekov collapses.

While McCoy is treating Chekov, Kirk talks with his old flame Carol Marcus, the engineer of the Genesis project, and she shows him what they have achieved: a test that created an area of lush green plant life. Kirk also meets his son for the first time, David Marcus, who works with his mother on the Genesis project.
7. The USS Enterprise enters the Mutara Nebula

Tricking Khan and rejoining the USS Enterprise, Kirk orders the ship to enter the Mutara Nebula. Once inside the nebula, the ships' shields will become useless, evening the odds between the two sides. A long cat-and-mouse hunt ensues, and Commander Sulu manages to inflict more hits on the Reliant than the Reliant can inflict on the Enterprise. Spock suggests a more "three-dimensional" way of battle, and the Enterprise drops below the Reliant, allowing it to drift past. Soon, with Chekov back at the weapons station, the Reliant is crippled and drifting.
8. Khan activates the Genesis Device

The rest of his crew dead, and himself mortally injured, Khan prepares to deal his final blow. Determined to take down his enemy Kirk, he activates the Genesis Device, quoting Herman Melville's classic book "Moby Dick". The Enterprise herself is crippled, however, and unable to get up enough speed to escape the destruction that the Genesis Device will cause. The case appears hopeless.
9. Captain Spock enters the engine room to repair the warp drive

The warp drive is broken, and without it, the Enterprise is unable to get enough speed to escape the Genesis project. Spock slips away from the bridge and meets Scotty in the engine room. When McCoy attempts to stop Spock from entering the radiation-filled warp drive chamber, Spock knocks him unconscious with a nerve pinch. Performing a quick mind-meld with McCoy, Spock mutters "remember", then enters the contaminated area. He quickly performs the repairs on the warp drive and the Enterprise is able to flee its destruction.

Kirk, unaware of Spock's sacrifice, is called down to the engine room once he notices Spock's disappearance from the bridge. He says a touching final goodbye to his friend. Spock's final words are "Live long and prosper".
10. A funeral is conducted for Captain Spock

Scotty plays the bagpipes, after Kirk gives a touching speech, giving Spock the best compliment that he could think of: that he was "human". Interestingly, Saavik is seen to cry. Afterwards, Spock's body is jettisoned off of the Enterprise, and it lands on the new Genesis planet. Kirk reads "A Tale of Two Cities" and, by connecting the book's plot with Spock's sacrifice, finally understands his friend's actions.

He also forms a bond with his son David.
