Morbid Angel has been a force in the metal community since 1984 when the band was formed in Tampa, Florida. The combination of Asagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval provides an aural attack of complicated progressions which vary in tempo, from lightning fast to barely creeping.

The complexity of Morbid Angel's music does not always sit well with the casual fan, but fans of mathcore and grindcore have grown to accept Morbid Angel into their ranks. One of the band's major coups was when their music video for "God of Emptiness" was played on the animated television program "Beavis and Butthead".

Barnes was once the lead singer for Cannibal Corpse, Ritter has lent his vocals to Tourniquet and Miller was from Animosity. Glen Benton is the original singer for the death metal group Deicide. His antics have included branding an inverted crucifix into his own forehead, being associated with animal cruelty and having a total disdain for any form of organized religion. All that aside, the music which the band has created is often cited as the some of the best examples of the death metal genre.

The band has a huge following internationally and their albums "Deicide" and "Legion" are included in lists as the best selling death metal albums of all time.

Answer: Atheist

In my mind, the best death metal band ever assembled has to be Atheist. The level of musicianship is simply wonderful. Atheist's sound could be described as a jazz/metal fusion, sometimes with elements of Latin music thrown in for variety. Atheist was well on their way to something great when their original bassist, Roger Patterson, was killed in a car crash. Patterson's influence can be felt in several bands of the genre including Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death and even Obituary.

The three incorrect answers are all prior vocalists in Iced Earth. Quite possibly the most famous of the Iced Earth vocalists was Tim "Ripper" Owens who has fronted bands as famous as Yngwie Malmsteen and Judas Priest. The music of Iced Earth has elements of power metal, thrash metal and even opera.

The multitude of artists which has been in and out of the band has helped keep their sound fresh, but without that core group of members, it's been tough for fans to gain any allegiance to the band. One past member, Richard Christy, who works on the Howard Stern's radio show, is now working with Ripper Owens in a band titled The Charred Walls of the Damned.

Trivium has gained the respect of their metal brethren based on the level in which they perform. One of the best in the band was Travis Smith whose footwork alone has propelled him to stardom. He has won several industry awards including winning the Best Drummer in the Universe award in 2006 at the "Metal Hammer" Golden Gods Awards in 2006.

Savatage used elements of progressive rock and metal to become one of the better prog metal bands of the era. Jon and Criss were very close brothers who were dedicated to the band they had formed. Sadly, on October 17, 1993, Criss was killed in a car accident.

The driver of the other car was intoxicated and had seven prior drinking and driving convictions prior to the accident. The intoxicated driver was given a five year jail sentence for which he only served 18 months.

Mark Tremonti formed Alter Bridge after Creed dissolved and Myles Kennedy joined soon after as their vocalist. Kennedy had previosuly worked in The Mayfield Four as their vocalist. Alter Bridge released their debut album, "One Day Remains" in 2004. Myles Kennedy joined a long list of guest vocalists on Slash's album for two songs. "Back from Cali" and "Starlight" are the two songs that feature Myles Kennedy from the album "Slash".

Underoath is a Christian metalcore band from Tampa, FL which was formed in 1997. Underoath is a Grammy nominated band who released their first album, titled "Act of Depression", in 1997. Oddly enough, Underoath has done something that many other bands in their genre has not. The band has managed to remain an entity even though none of the original members are still in the band.

Answer: Saigon Kick

Saigon Kick was formed in Miami, Florida in 1988. The song "Love is on the Way" was easily their biggest hit. Radio and MTV airplay was huge. The song was found on the album "The Lizard". After the band's break-up, most of the members found success as members of other bands, as authors, as music executives, as comedians and even as massage therapists.

Answer: Scream Bloody Gore

All of the incorrect answers were also Death albums, but "Scream Bloody Gore" was where it all started. Death and the California based band Possessed, from California, are the two pioneers in the death metal genre. Chuck Schuldiner is credited as the innovator he truly is.

At the time of the inception of Death, this genre simply did not exist. Unfortunately for the metal world, Chuck was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor and he passed away in 2001.
