Answer: B*Witched

B*Witched were formed in Dublin, Ireland.

Twins Edele and Keavy Lynch aren't the only famous ones in the Lynch family. The twins' older brother, Shane, is a member of Boyzone. Shane, Edele and Keavy have two younger sisters, who were also in the singing industry. Tara, was in a band called Fab and Naomi, the youngest sister, was in a band called Buffalo G. Quite the musical family.

B*Witched released their debut single, "C'est la Vie" in 1998.

It became a UK number one and made them the youngest girl group to have had a UK number one. Unfortunately another girl group has now got that title. The answer to which group now hold this title will be revealed in another Interesting Information section.

When the song was released in the USA it gained the number nine spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

The group are still together and in May 2023, released a single called "Birthday" to mark 25 years of B*Witched.

Answer: Eternal

Eternal formed in 1992.

Easther and Vernie are sisters.

Easther was once married to Shane Lynch from the boy band, Boyzone.

Eternal released their debut album "Always and Forever" in 1993. I still have this album.

In 1997 they released "I Wanna Be the Only One", and gained the number one spot in the UK singles chart. This song also earned them a MOBO Award for the Best Single.

Louise left the group in 1995 to pursue a sole career. She had quite a successful career and her biggest hit was "Naked". Louise then went on to marry footballer Jamie Redknapp; the couple are no longer together.

Eternal continued as a trio and were still very popular. In 1996 they released the single "Someday" which was the soundtrack for the Disney film "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame".

In 1998 Kéllé received a fax saying she had been dismissed from the band, on the grounds of a breakdown in professional relationships. Kéllé had a brief solo career and then went onto appear in various TV shows and was a regular in the British drama "Hollyoaks"; her character left the show in 2022.

The group were meant to reunite as a foursome in 2024, however Louise and Kéllé both pulled out of the reunion due to differences with Easther and Vernie.

Answer: The Sugababes

The Sugababes were formed in 1998.

Their debut album, "One Touch", was released in 2000. The single "Overload" from the "One Touch" album was co written by Mutya, Keisha and Siobhán.

In, 2001 Siobhán was replaced and new band member Heidi Range joined the group. Once Heidi joined, the group went onto to achieve bigger success in the charts and released three albums:

"Angels with Dirty Faces" (2002)
"Three" (2003)
"Taller in More Ways" (2005)

The group have achieved six UK number ones; only one other girl group have achieved more UK numbers ones. The answer to which girl group has had the most UK number ones will be revealed in another Interesting Information section.

The group had another shake up in 2005 when Mutya was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. In 2009 the group had yet another shake up when Keisha was replaced by Jade Ewen.

The group took a break in 2011 before reforming in the same year with the original line up.

Answer: Little Mix

Little Mix were formed on the seventh season of "The X Factor". Each member had auditioned as a solo artist but then were put together to from Little Mix.

Little Mix are still classed as being the most successful winning act from "The X Factor".

In 2012 Little Mix became the youngest girl group to have a UK number one. The song that secured them this title was their debut single "Wings" B*Witched used to hold the title for being the youngest girl group to have a UK number one.

The group have achieved five number one singles in total.

At the 2021 Brit Award show, the group won the Best British Group award. This is the first time a girl group has won this award.

On the 14 December 2020, it was announced that Jesy had left the group due to her mental health, struggles. The group stayed together as a trio.

Answer: Wilson Phillips

Wilson Phillips were formed in Los Angeles in 1989.

Sisters Wendy and Carnie Wilson's father is Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and their mam, Marilyn Rovel, was a member of the Honeys in the 1960s and then went onto to be a member of American Spring in the 1970s.

Cynna Phillips also has famous parents; her parents are John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas.

The group have been nominated for several Grammy Awards. At 1990 Billboard Music Awards they won the Hot 100 Single of the Year award for their hit single "Hold On".

By the end of 1992 the group went their separate ways. They have since come back together and in 2022 they released a cover version of Harry Styles's song "Boyfriends".

Answer: The Spice Girls

The Spice Girls were formed in 1994.

They all had nicknames in the group and it was the British press who made the nicknames up:

Their first single "Wannabe" was released in 1996 and reached the number one spot in 37 countries.

They have had a total of nine UK number one singles, which is more than any other girl group in music history. The Sugababes come in a close second with six UK number one singles.

In 1997 "Spice World The Movie" was released. The film is basically the girls preparing for their first gig at The Royal Albert Hall. However as it's a comedy film lots of things go wrong for them with some rather funny outcomes. Lots of famous people made cameos in the film.

They have won a strong of awards which include:

In May 1998, Geri left The Spice Girls. Geri went onto have a successful solo career and her debut single "Look at Me" was released in 1999. By December 2000 the remaining girls had all taken a step back from the group to concentrate on solo projects.

In 2007 the group were back together and announced they were doing a reunion tour. In 2012 they were back together again and performed at 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. Another reunion tour was announced in 2018, however Posh Spice wasn't part of the reunion.

Answer: Girls Aloud

In 2002, Girls Aloud were created on the ITV show "Popstars: The Rivals".

In 2007 and 2011 they were listed in the Guinness World Records as the
"Most Successful Reality TV Group".

In the 2008 edition of Guinness World Records the group were listed as holding the title of "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group".

Back in 2012, the group was named as the UK's biggest selling girl group of the 21st century to date.

The group took a break in 2013.

On 5 September 2021, Sarah Harding passed away from breast cancer at the age of 39.

Kimberley, Cheryl, Nicola and Nadine reunited in 2024 for a reunion tour.
"The Girls Aloud Show" became the biggest UK arena tour of 2024.

Answer: En Vogue

En Vogue were formed in Oakland, California, in 1989.

Their debut album "Born to Sing" was released in 1990.

The groups second album, "Funky Divas", reached the top ten in the UK and the USA.

In 1997, Dawn left the group and in 2001 Maxine left the group. Maxine was replaced by Amanda Cole. Amanda then left the group in 2003. Rhona Bennett then joined the group; at the time of her joining the group, En Vogue had already started working on their sixth album. In 2005 the original line up had a brief reunion before going their separate ways again. In 2009 the original line up once again reunited to for the "En Vogue: 20th Anniversary", tour. Not long after the end of the tour Dawn and Maxine both left the group and Rhonda re-joined.

In 2021, En Vogue had a cameo in "Coming 2 America" alongside Salt-N-Pepa. En Vogue and Salt-N-pepa had previously worked together on the 1993 single, "Whatta Man".

In 2023 En Vogue performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

Answer: SWV

SWV were formed in 1988 as a gospel choir.

SWV stands for Sisters With Voice; none of the girls are related though.

They are classed as being one of the most successful R&B groups of the 90s.

The girls all went their separate ways in 1998 and worked on solo projects. By 2005 the girls were back together again and announced that they were going to be working in a new album, unfortunately this album never happened. In 2012 SWV eventually released a new album and then again in 2016.

In 2019 SVW and Salt-N-Pepa worked together to create a reality TV series called 'Ladies Night'. In the show we watched as Salt-N-Pepa prepared for a Las Vegas residency gig and prepared for a nationwide tour.

Answer: The Saturdays

The Saturdays were formed in 2007.

In 2008, The Saturdays toured with Girls Aloud on their "Tangled Up Tour".

"If This Is Love", the group's first single was released in 2008 and their album "Chasing Lights" was released in the same year.

Their first tour, "The Work Tour", was in 2009. In 2011 the group went on an arena tour, this was the "All Fired Up! Live" tour. In 2014 the girls went onto do the "Greatest Hits Live!" tour.

In March 2015, it was announced that the group were having a break. No plans have been made for a reunion at the time this quiz was written.
