1. Who managed the 2002 World Series Champions, Anaheim Angels?

Answer: Mike Scioscia

Mike was in his 3rd season as a manager when he went to the promised land. He won as a 47 year old manager. Scioscia was a player from 1980-1992 with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a catcher. Scioscia's 2002 efforts earned him the American League Manager of the Year Award.
2. Which of the following never managed the New York Yankees?

Answer: Connie Mack

Mack managed for 53 seasons, all but 3 with the Athletics. The others listed, all took the Yankees to a World Series Crown.
3. Who won the 1921 World Series?

Answer: New York Giants

This was the last best of nine game World Series in 1921. The Giants defeated cross-league rival New York Yankees 5 games to 3. The Series began by the Yankees shutting out the Giants in the first two games 3-0. The Giants rallied back by winning the next 5 of 6 games. The other three teams did not exist in 1921.
4. Which of the 3 Alou brothers hit the most career home runs?

Answer: Felipe

Felipe was the only Alou brother listed. Matty and Jesus hit less than 35 in their career. Felipe hit 206 career home runs. Felipe played with the Giants, Braves, Athletics, Yankees, Expos, and Brewers, throughout his 17 seasons.
5. Before becoming the Houston Astros, what was the team named?

Answer: Colt .45's

The Colt .45's began as an expansion team in 1962 along with the New York Mets. The .45's three seasons resulted in a best 8th place finish. In 1965 the name was changed to the Astros. For the next 3 seasons, it was the same result with a best 8th place finish. It would not be until 1969 before the team reached a .500 season.

Answer: Steve Carlton

Carlton played from 1965-1988. His first 7 seasons were as a Cardinal. In 1972, he donned the Phillies uniform for the next 15 seasons. Carlton was the 2nd pitcher to reach the 4,000 strikeout mark, one year after Nolan Ryan reached it in 1985. When Carlton retired, he was #2 in all-time strikeouts.

The other players listed, all played with only one team, and all in the American League.
7. Who was the first player in the National League to hit 500 home runs in their career?

Answer: Mel Ott

The 'Say Hey Kid' reached the 500 mark in 1965, only a few years before the great Hank Aaron and Eddie Mathews. However, it was Mel Ott of the Giants who reached that plateau first 20 years earlier. Ott played 22 seasons, all with the Giants. Ott led the league in home runs 6 times in his career, more than the other 3 players listed.
8. Which of the following was not a Rookie of the Year?

Answer: Lou Gehrig

The others listed, were fresh rookies in 2001 and 2002. The Rookie of the Year Award began in 1947, with the Dodgers' Jackie Robinson being the inaugural winner. Gehrig was a rookie in 1923. Although Louis missed out on the Rookie of the Year, we had won just about every other award in the Majors.
9. What player had the nickname of "Killer"?

Answer: Harmon Killebrew

This former Washington Senator and Minnesota Twin, smacked 573 career home runs. This 1969 American League MVP earned the nickname by leading the American League in home runs 6 times. The others listed, are already shown with their nicknames.
10. Which of the following players did not hit over 500 home runs in their career?

Answer: Stan Musial

In this elite list, only Musial did not reach the 500 mark. He fell short with 475 career home runs. 'Stan the Man' played his entire 22 season career with the St. Louis Cardinals. He won 3 National League MVP Awards, and led the league in batting 7 times. Schmidt retired with 548, while both McCovey and Williams hit 521 each.
