8. Manager Casey Stengel was most noted for taking the Yankees to 10 World Series in a 12-season span from 1949-1960. Which team did Casey begin his managerial career with?

Casey never managed the other teams. After playing 1183 games in the outfield, Stengel retired as a player with the Boston Braves in 1925. He took up managing with the Dodgers in 1934 for three seasons. He took the helm of the Braves in 1938, then retired in 1943.

The Yankees wanted him, and he showed the world that he could bring all the future Hall of Fame Yankee greats together in 1949. He retired with the Yankees in 1960. The Mets coaxed him out of retirement to take their expansion team in 1962. What a mistake that was as the team lost 100+ games in each of Casey's four seasons with them.

9. The Hall of Fame began in 1936 with five baseball greats inducted. In which year was the first career left-handed pitcher inducted?

The Hall of Fame began in 1936, but it was not until the 1946 selection that put the first left-hander into mortality. Rube Waddell who played mostly for the Philadelphia Athletics, was inducted alongside teammate and left-hander Eddie Plank. Waddell won 193 games in his career, while Plank won 326.
