Sacramento State is a Division I-AA school from the Big Sky conference. The Hornets almost gave the Broncos no fight in this lop sided win. Jared Zabransky threw for 181 yards on 11 for 20 passing with 2 touchdowns. If that weren't enough, he also rushed for 31 yards and 1 touchdown. This game was Broncos' coach Chris Petersen's debut with Boise State.

Ian Johnson rushed for 240 yards on 22 carries and scored 5 touchdowns. Boise State started off a little rough, letting Oregon State build a 14-0 lead, but after that they settled down, scoring 42 unanswered points.
