Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Trevor Lawrence
Answer: Clemson
Trevor Lawrence was a 6'5" quarterback out of Cartersville, Georgia who left state and signed with the Clemson Tigers in 2019. After college, he became a #1 draft pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2021 Draft.
2. Jadeveon Clowney
Answer: South Carolina
One of the highest rated high school prospects of all-time, Jadeveon lived up to the hype. He enrolled at his home state school, South Carolina. After an All-American career with the Gamecocks, Clowney became the first pick in the 2014 NFL draft (chosen by Houston Texans).
3. Rashan Gary
Answer: Michigan
Rashaun Gary was a standout defensive tackle at Paramus Catholic in New Jersey. He was recruited heavily in 2016 and signed with the Michigan Wolverines. In the NFL, he transitioned to a outside linebacker (he was chosen 12th overall by Green Bay Packers in the 2019 Draft).
4. Najee Harris
Answer: Alabama
The Crimson Tide began their dominance in college football in the 1990s. In no small part was due to their recruiting of players like Najee Harris, a powerful halfback from Antioch Sr HS in California. He signed with Alabama on April 19, 2015 and made it to the NFL after college (24th overall in the 2021 Draft by Pittsburgh Steelers).
5. Robert Nkemdiche
Answer: Ole Miss
Nkemdiche signing with Ole Miss was a shocker for NCAA recruiting in 2013. Ole Miss had not been a powerhouse in that era and having the #1 recruit choose them over schools like LSU, Alabama, and Georgia was a big signing for Ole Miss. While Robert did make it to the NFL, he never lived up to the lofty expectations (selected 29th overall by Arizona Cardinals in the 2016 NFL Draft).
6. Da'shawn Hand
Answer: Alabama
Hand played defensive end and went to high school in West Virginia. He was the #1 college recruit in 2014 and signed with Alabama. Da'shawn did not live up to the expectations of being the top recruit and had only a decent career with the Crimson Tide. He was a mid-round draft pick by Detroit Lions in the 2018 NFL Draft.
7. Derek Stingley Jr
Answer: LSU
Stingley was an NFL legacy after his grandfather played wide receiver for the New England Patriots in the 1970s. Derek Jr. was an elite cornerback and signed with the LSU Tigers in 2019. He was drafted with the 3rd pick in the 2022 NFL draft by the Houston Texans.
8. Ronald Powell
Answer: Florida
Ronald was a 6ft 4in defensive end from Rancho Verde High School in California. He crossed the country to sign with the Florida Gators in 2010. Injuries derailed Powell's career and was never a major factor in college or NFL football.
9. Byron Cowart
Answer: Auburn
Byron Cowart played high school ball at Armood High School in Seffner, Florida. In 2015 he took his talents to Alabama and played defensive end for the Auburn Tigers. After just one disappointing season, he transferred to Maryland. Byron did get drafted in the NFL by the New England Patriots (159th overall in the 5th Round of the 2019 Draft).
10. Dorial Green-Beckham
Answer: Missouri
The 6ft 6in wide receiver out of Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri, stayed home and signed with the Missouri Tigers in 2012. He often drew comparisons to NFL great Calvin Johnson. While Dorial had a solid career with Missouri, drama off the field scared NFL scouts.
He had a lackluster NFL career, despite being drafted in the second round, playing for the Titans and Eagles in 2015 and 2016.
