Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hank Aaron was most noted for his stay with the Braves and his 755 career home runs. Who was his brother that also played alongside him with the Braves?

Answer: Tommie

Tommie played the outfield along with brother Hank for the Braves from 1962-1971. Unlike Hammerin' Hank, Tommie hit only 13 career home runs. Tommie never made it to a World Series.
2. Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak. He played his entire career for the Baltimore Orioles. Cal had a brother that also played on the same Oriole roster for seven seasons. Who is this brother?

Answer: Billy

Billy played with Cal Jr. from 1987-1992, and also the 1996 season. Cal primarily played shortstop while brother Billy played second base. Billy retired as a Tiger in 1998 with a career .247 average along with 20 home runs.
3. Until Denny McLain won 31 games in 1968, Cardinal pitcher Dizzy Dean had been the last to win 30 in 1934. Dizzy had a brother who also pitched alongside Dizzy from 1934-1937. Who is this brother?

Answer: Paul

Dizzy retired with 150 career wins, and retired early due to an All-Star game injury. Brother Paul, nicknamed "Daffy", pitched for nine seasons with a 50-34 record. Paul was a 19-game winner twice.
4. New York Giant and Hall of Fame great Christy Mathewson won 373 games in his career. Who was his brother that also pitched for the Giants?

Answer: Henry

Henry pitched on the same mound as brother Christy in the 1906 and 1907 seasons with the same Giants. That was it for his career. He went only 0-1 in 11 total innings pitched in his career.
5. There were three Boyer brothers in the Major Leagues. They were Cloyd, Clete, and which other brother?

Answer: Ken

Cloyd was the oldest, then Ken and Clete, respectively. Cloyd was a pitcher in four of his five seasons with the Cardinals. Clete played three seasons with the Athletics, eight with the Yankees, and five with the Braves. Ken played 11 of his 15 seasons with the Cardinals at third base, and won the NL MVP in 1964. Ken died in 1982, while Clete died in 2007. Cloyd, even though being the oldest, out-lasted both his brothers.
6. Bubbles Hargrave was one of very few catchers in baseball history to win a batting title. He did it in 1926 with the Cincinnati Reds. Bubbles had a brother who was also a catcher and played for 10 seasons in the Major Leagues. Who was his brother?

Answer: William "Pinky" Hargrave

Pinky played with four teams over his 10-season career, mostly in the American League. He never matched his brother's feats though. Bubbles was four years older and died in 1969, 17 years after Pinky's death in 1942.
7. Red Sox great Tony Conigliaro had the power of his bat until he has beaned by a pitch in 1971. His brother also played on the Red Sox from 1969-1971. Who was his brother?

Answer: Billy

Tony was beaned in the head by pitch in 1967 while playing for Boston. Jack Hamilton of the Angels was the pitcher that hit him. This put an alteration to his career. He tried a comeback with the Red Sox in 1975, but it just didn't work out. Billy didn't have the power that brother Tony had, but he was an all-around player. Billy made it to the World Series with Oakland in 1973, while Tony never made it to one.
8. There were five Delahanty brothers in the big leagues. Which one died first?

Answer: Ed

The brothers were Frank, Jim, Joe, Tom, then Ed who died in a Niagara Falls accident midseason 1903. Ed led the league in batting one time, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1945. The result of his death has never been determined.
9. Pitching great Greg Maddux retired after 23 seasons in 2009. His career record was 355-227. His brother also pitched in the Major Leagues for 15 seasons. What is his brother's name?

Answer: Mike

Mike pitched for nine different teams over his 15 seasons. He began his career with four seasons in a Phillies uniform. Mike's career record was 39-37 and had 20 saves. Even with all the different teams, Mike couldn't land a World Series appearance with any of them.
10. The Reds' Barry Larkin won nine Gold Gloves throughout his career, and he was the 1995 National League MVP. His brother played only one game in his entire career, but appeared on the same Reds' team in 1998. Who is his brother?

Answer: Stephen

Stephen started the only game of his career on September 27. He had three at-bats in the game and had one single. Barry was nine years older than Stephen.
