The surname of the Alou brothers was actually Rojas. Alou was their maternal grandmother's surname and was a part of their full name. They chose to publicly honor her name. At one point during the 1963 season all three brothers occupied the outfield of the San Francisco Giants, the first trio of brothers ever to do so in the major leagues. Felipe went on to become a manager. His son Moises also had a successful major league playing career.
