Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. BILLIARDS: What is the proper name for the stick used while playing?

Answer: Cue

The 'cue' is a tapered stick, with the larger end used as the handle and the smaller tip used to make contact with the ball. The cue can be one, long tapered piece or two pieces that screw together in the middle. Travel sticks are typically two pieces that fit in a cushioned case. Care is taken with the sticks so as not to warp.

3. GOLF: In golf a player who scores three under par on a par 5 hole can be said to have shot which large bird?

Answer: Albatross

In golf an albatross is a very rare bird as it can only be scored usually on a par-5 hole, of which there are not usually more than four on a golf course. Exceptionally it could be scored on a short par-4 hole, but then it would more likely be called a hole-in-one. This feat is also known as a double eagle.

7. In basketball parlance, what statistic, crucial to gaining possession, is also referred to as a "board"?

Answer: Rebound

The fast-paced game of basketball and the introduction of the shot clock to ensure no team can hold possession for too long means that the typical game will have many missed shots. As a result, the defensive team must secure a rebound off any missed shots to conclude a properly defended possession.

The majority of rebounds are defensive and the rebounding battle can sway games significantly. When a board is caught by an offensive player, this gives the team another chance to score; these "second-chance points" are so crucial to a team's success that the NBA tracks them as stand-alone statistics.

8. MOTOR RACING: If you were to win the Indianapolis 500, Le Mans 24 hour and the Monaco Grand Prix what achievement could you claim?

Answer: Triple Crown of Motorsport

Events that make up the Triple Crown of Motorsport are usually the Indy 500, Le Mans 24 hour and the Monaco Grand Prix; however, it can also be the Indy 500, Le Mans 24 hour and being the F1 World Champion. Either way, it is very, very tough to win the Triple Crown of Motorsport.

The first person to achieve it was British Racing driver, Graham Hill, who won the Indianapolis 500 in 1966, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972 and the Monaco Grand Prix five times, these being in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968 and 1969. Graham Hill can be rightfully proud of himself since he also won the F1 World Championship in 1962 and 1968.

The Spanish racing driver Fernando Alonso Díaz managed to win the Le Mans 24 Hour, the Monaco Grand Prix and the F1 World Champion, but sadly failed to win the Indy 500.
