When the Mariners reached the 50-win mark, both the Padres and D-Rays had only half that. Detroit had more losses with 56, than Seattle had wins.
2. Which of the following pitching greats never won a Cy Young Award?

Answer: Walter Johnson

The others listed all won 3 Cy Young Awards in their great careers. The Cy Young Award was first given in 1956 to Dodger pitcher Don Newcombe, 30 years after Walter Johnson's retirement.
3. What player set a World Series record, by hitting 6 doubles in a Series?

Answer: Pete Fox

The others listed were Chicago Cubs and never saw a World Series game. Fox, a Detroit Tiger, set this record in the 1934 World Series, in Detroit's 4 games to 3 loss to the Cardinals.
4. I was the first pitcher in history to win 100 games, for a National and American League team each. I played for 17 seasons in the Majors, I never won anything major, but was just consistent. I struck out 200 batters 6 times in my career. However, I never saw a World Series game. Who am I?

Answer: Jim Bunning

The others listed played for only one team throughout their career, and all went to the World Series. Bunning pitched from 1955-1971. He played 9 seasons with the Tigers and 6 with the Phillies, where he won 100 games for both teams. He also pitched for the Pirates, and 3 games for the Dodgers.
5. Babe Ruth won a home run title with the Boston Red Sox in 1919, one season before becoming a Yankee. How many home runs did he lead the league with?

Answer: 29

The following season saw him as a Yankee, where he started his terror by hitting 54 in 1920. While Ruth hit his 54, Cy Williams of the National League Phillies, led his league with 15.
6. In the 2003 season, Sammy Sosa of the Cubs was suspended for what violation?

Answer: Using a corked bat

Sosa was suspended for multiple games for using a bat which had foreign matter (cork) inside of it. The bat broke when he had hit a ball, exposing the cork. Sosa claimed that it was a 'batting practice' bat, which somehow was mixed in with his game bats.
7. What was the first team in history, to lose 3 consecutive World Series?

Answer: Detroit Tigers

The first World Series was played in 1903, after the other teams went defunct. The Tigers lost 3 consecutive promised-land outings in 1907, 1908, and 1909. The New York Giants were the only other club in the 20th century to lose 3 also, in 1911, 1912, and 1913.
8. Which of the following was NOT one of the famous Alou brothers in baseball?

Answer: Heinrich

Felipe was the oldest of the 3, and had the biggest bat. They all played between 15 and 17 seasons in the Majors, with Matty hitting 31 home runs, Jesus hitting 32, and Felipe hitting 206.
9. Who was the first player in baseball history to hit 70 home runs in a season?

Answer: Mark McGwire

McGwire smacked 70 with the Cardinals in 1998, breaking Roger Maris' famous 61. Mac's record didn't last long, as Barry Bonds topped it in 2001 by hitting 73 with the Giants.
10. Pitching great Don Sutton won 324 career games. How many 20-win seasons did he have?

Answer: 1

Sutton pitched for 5 teams throughout his 23 season career. He reached the 20-win plateau only once. In a Dodger uniform in 1976, Don went 21-10 for the 2nd place ballclub. He was 3rd in the Cy Young ballots that season.
