5. TRACK & FIELD: Josy Barthel's surprise win at the 1952 Olympics in the 1500-meter race was such a shock that the Olympic orchestra, not having the sheet music for which country's national anthem, simply improvised it?

Answer: Luxembourg

The top two contenders for the gold medal were a German athlete and an American athlete, the national anthems of which the orchestra was surely ready to play. After Barthel surged at the end of the race, he crossed the finish line and won the gold medal. 8. BASEBALL: What is a "beanball"?

Answer: a pitch thrown at the batter's head

Slang terms for a person's head, including "bean," "noggin," and "coconut" are ancient and common. Dating back to at least 1905, "bean" was in use in baseball slang, as a verb, specifically meaning to throw a pitch which hits a batter in the head. Such a pitch thus became a "bean ball." The term generally connotes a deliberate attempt to hit the batter as an act of retaliation, intimidation or plain malice, as opposed to a "brush back" pitch, designed to move a batter back from the plate for strategic advantage.
