Answer: Censure on President Bartlet

Leo and his attorney, Jordon Kendall, met with Cliff Calley, the majority counsel for the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, to discuss where to go from there regarding the dilemma over President Bartlet not disclosing his MS diagnosis. Calley informed Leo the committee planned to drop the hearings, on Bartlet's MS diagnosis, in exchange for a censure on President Bartlet. Cliff said it was to punish the President for lying to the American people but Leo did not accept Cliff's proposal since he felt the President did not lie.

Near the beginning of the episode, Josh spoke to Toby about Amy Gardner and asked him if she knew who he was. Toby said he knew her and Josh mentioned how she objected to language in a treaty that would ban just forced prostitution and not all forms of prostitution.

In the middle of their conversation, Josh mentioned, to Toby, that Amy was the girlfriend of his college roommate. Josh informed Toby he wanted to see Amy again and Toby had no objections to this.

In President Bartlet's first scene, in the episode, he was with Charlie Young and asked him how his weekend was. Charlie said it was fine and reminded President Bartlet that he should have known since, for most of his weekend, he was at The White House with him.

This was when President Bartlet asked Charlie if he went to a flea market that past weekend. Charlie said he did and picked up an ancient map of the Middle East for President Bartlet.

Leo spoke to Jordon Kendall, about the proposal for the President to be censured, and gave reasons as to why he objected that move. He said that it would be the first time a President was ever censured and that this was not the time to do so since the President did not lie to the American people.

In his remarks, he stated that Congress was the seat of democracy and not talk radio and their condemning a President did not have to come with handcuffs.

Near the beginning of the episode, Toby met up with Charlie, near the Oval Office, and asked him about Carol's birthday. Toby asked Charlie if it was true that, at Carol's birthday party, they did a séance and tried to resurrect the spirit of Margaret's grandmother. Charlie did not respond to Toby's question and informed Toby that he could go meet President Bartlet. Carol was C.J. Cregg's assistant.

Donna picked up the phone and Amy spoke to her from the other end. Josh heard Donna say Amy's name so he told Donna he would take her call. Donna told Amy she was not sure if Josh was in his office but that she would check. Donna put Amy through to Josh and Josh asked Amy if she was wrestling with someone since she sounded out of breath. Amy stated to Josh that she was exercising at the gym.

Donna answered a phone call and Cliff Calley was on the other line. He told her he needed to meet with her and nobody else could know about their meeting. Donna objected to this meeting but Cliff reminded her she could do it since it was not illegal. He told her to meet him at Georgetown Law School's library in the Federal Case Law section.

President Bartlet showed C.J. the map that Charlie got him of the ancient Middle East and C.J. told him to not put it up in the West Wing of The White House. She said people would find it offensive if the saw that Israel was not on the map. President Bartlet reminded her that Israel did not have statehood at the time the map was designed. C.J. told President Bartlet she would not agree with the people who would be offended but did not want him to feel so much pain over an old map.

Near the end of this episode of "The West Wing", Sam went to see President Bartlet in The Oval Office. President Bartlet asked Sam how he was doing and Sam said he was fine but that he felt like he lived at The White House in January. President Bartlet said the early drafts of his State of the Union speech were going fine but Sam told him he was not there to discuss that speech.

He told President Bartlet about a book coming out in three weeks and wanted to discuss a part of the book that talked about the public approving, by a huge margin, military spending. Sam cited a poll that was mentioned, in the book, and told President Bartlet he did not remember any such poll being taken. President Bartlet said he did not recall such a poll, either, and just told Sam to not worry about it.

In the final scene, Leo and President Bartlet discussed the matters of his censure and President Barlet admitted he was wrong to conceal his MS diagnosis. He said that, while he was not sinister in what he did, he had many opportunities to make it right. Leo asked President Bartlet if he was ready to be censured and President Bartlet remarked that he was ready and he would make history by being the first U.S. President to be censured. Leo reminded him that President Andrew Johnson got censured in 1834 but President Bartlet countered that Johnson got it expunged in 1836. Leo and President Bartlet sat on a bench, outside, and watched the snow fall to the ground.
