The episode began with Abby getting dressed to attend a function with President Bartlet and she asked him if she liked the earrings she had put on for the occasion. He asked her if she had worn them before and Abby said she had so he said that meant he loved them. President Bartlet then asked her to help him out with a crossword puzzle that he was working on at that moment.

President Bartlet had planned to throw a party for Abbey so he escorted her to where it was being held so that they could go celebrate. Abbey told him that she wanted the party to not be as grand since she was not up for much fanfare that evening. One of the first persons to wish Abbey a happy birthday at her party was Josh.

C.J. was seen about to head to Abby's party when she ran into Leo and he asked her to check out a rumor. He wanted to know if Robert Nolan, chairman of the New Hampshire Medical Board, would attend a hearing regarding Abby. C.J. asked Leo where the rumor came from so he said he was unsure but that he read something about it from the "Manchester Union Leader."

C.J. got done talking to Leo so she ran into Sam and he asked her if she knew if Jack Enlow was at Abbey's party. C.J. told him she was unsure since she had not even gotten to the party at that point. C.J. asked Sam if he was trying to pick a fight with Jack Enlow but Sam said that was not his intention.

Josh went to go talk to Donna and she asked him how the party was going so he said it was fine so she informed him about a security issue. She said the Secret Service went over the guest list for Abbey's party and advised Donna that, due to a security concern, she was not to attend the party despite being an invited guest. Josh asked her if they let her know what the problem was with her going to the party but she said they had not gotten back to her about it.

Sam had a meeting with Dr. Damon Millgate, a college professor he had for a physics course, and he asked him if he was disappointed that he did not go into physics. Dr. Millgate said he was not since Sam did poorly in physics but Sam assured him he did fine in the subject. Sam broke the news to Dr. Millgate that Congress would not fund a superconductor which Dr. Millgate had proposed. Dr. Millgate corrected him and said he was actually hoping to fund a superconducting supercollider.

While at the party, Abbey pulled Josh aside and told him she had a list of names of people who she felt would be good as Deputy Political Director since she knew Josh was in charge of hiring someone for that position. Josh looked at the list and was surprised to see they were all women. Abbey reminded Josh that women made up 60% of President Bartlet's vote so it would be a good idea if a high percentage of their campaign staff was comprised of women.

Abbey bumped into C.J. at the party and she told her that she wanted to get drunk with her. They both ran into Amy at the party and told her they were going to get plastered so Amy said she would go along with them as well. All three women went into a private room and they discussed their jobs at The White House while they drank.
