Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As a side to Colonial Day, the Quorum of Twelve, the legislative body of the fleet, was in the process of being elected. President Roslin was seriously disturbed by the delegate who was selected to represent Sagittaron. Who had been chosen?

Answer: Tom Zarek

Tom Zarek, the terrorist who had blown up a government building on Sagittaron was selected to represent them. Many of the fleet had felt disenfranchised by the current leadership and thought Zarek would be the one to bring change. After the announcement of his office, he contacted the fleet from the Astral Queen and thanked those who had brought him to power.
2. When Starbuck went to talk to Gaius Baltar in his laboratory about being selected to serve on the Quorum of Twelve, he was not very excited. What did he say was "the only thing more boring than blood samples."?

Answer: politics

When Baltar found out he was to be the delegate to Caprica, he wasn't thrilled. Only until the Six in his head gave him an idea of some of the positive aspects did he change his mind. "Parties full of young women drawn to men of power," she said, alluring him to accept the office.
3. "Madame President," Zarek said on the Cloud Nine, "if I were to offer you my hand in friendship, would you take it?" "Well, there's only one way to find out," she replied. What was the result of this exchange?

Answer: Roslin shook his hand and kissed him on the cheeks.

"That was nicely played," Zarek said to Roslin, who knew she had done the right thing. Not only had she not offended Zarek's supporters, she had put herself on the same level as Zarek and the rest of fleet, exuding humility.
4. Gaius Baltar sat bored within the room that housed the Quorum of Twelve. The Six in his head decided to pay him a little visit. She had been thinking about their relationship and decided that he could see other people because she had his heart. Then she said what?

Answer: "I can always rip it out of your chest if I need to."

The Six provided a point of interest to the nearly sleeping Gaius when she attracted his attention to the reporter who had been staring at him. She gave up her jealousy over him seeing other women, but knew that she was the only love in his life.
5. With the Quorum of Twelve in session, Laura Roslin had a body with which she would need to pass legislation in order to get vital programs and supplies through to the fleet. Zarek agreed, but he felt that one specific issue was of the most importance and moved to make it the order of the day. What was it?

Answer: The election of a vice president

Zarek moved to open nominations for vice president as the civilian body of the fleet would be in chaos if something were to happen to President Roslin. The result was the nomination of Tom Zarek and Roslin's troubles began.
6. Lee Adama and Kara Thrace got into a fight with two men on the Cloud Nine. During their struggle, they found a man who had what weapon hidden in his briefcase?

Answer: a silenced pistol

The assassin, Valance, was able to get through security because the pistol was ceramic and because a special false bottom in his briefcase. His interrogation turned over no information even though Kara and Lee threatened him.
7. Poor Wallace Gray, the man who Laura Roslin had chosen to run for vice president, was now asked by her to step down. She had another candidate in mind, someone who was more popular and well-received. Who did she ask to run in his place?

Answer: Gaius Baltar

After hearing Baltar's eloquent speech on the wireless, Roslin knew that she was going to thwart Tom Zarek's attempts to become vice president. It was imperative that she do so as Zarek would likely try an assassination attempt on her as soon as he had gotten the office.

Roslin had an unpleasant duty to perform when she asked her friend Wally to step down. He told her that she fit in with the "bear-knuckled back-stabbing politicians".
8. Galactica had definitive proof that Tom Zarek had killed the assassin, Valance.

Answer: False

Galactica had little evidence to prove anything. This fact was even later exploited when Zarek told Laura Roslin that he hadn't killed Valance. He then said, "I wonder who did?"

There are likely two suspects: Zarek, who may have simply lied to the president, or Ellen Tigh, who would have done it to gain Zarek's favor. Throughout the episode, there were several instances in which Zarek and Ellen met and talked about her 'future'. Later, when Ellen was with her husband, we learned that she had gotten her and Saul a suspicious trip to the Rising Star.
9. Commander Adama came to the inauguration party of Dr. Baltar, only because it was Colonial Day. He and President Roslin shared a conversation over her choosing Baltar. What was Roslin's response?

Answer: "I figured, 'the devil you know...'"

Roslin was talking about the adage, 'Better the devil you know than the devil you don't." They later expanded their conversation to politics:

Adama: "Politics: as exciting as war, definitely as dangerous."
Roslin: "Though in war, you only get killed once. In politics, it can happen over and over."
Adama: "You're still standing."
Roslin: "So are you."
Adama: "And I can dance."
10. On Caprica, while approaching a Cylon stronghold, what caused Helo to abandon Sharon and run off on his own?

Answer: He saw another Number Eight model.

As he ran, Helo thought back on all the unusual things that happened because Sharon was a Cylon: her endurance, her knowledge of Cylon movements, the fact that they were still alive. Sharon called out to him desperately, but it was no help. Helo distanced himself from her as quickly as he could.
