Mahora Academy is almost a giant community with it's own elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and an university. If you look carefully Mahora sounds somewhat like the word "Mahou" which means magic or magical in Japanese.

Although technically the day walking vampire Evangeline A.K. McDowell was the first one to know about Negi. Asuna was the first one out of his students that did not know of the existence of the magic world. It's funny when Asuna finds out because she finds out after Negi repeatedly destroys her clothing, most notably her bear panties in front of her crush Professor Takahata.

A reference to the "Super Sentai" series ("Power Rangers" in the U.S.), the Baka Rangers are composed of the five dumbest girls in Mahora Academy Middle School. The other members are Fei Ku, Asuna Kagurazaka, Kaede Nagase, and Makie Sasaki. Yue is the leader of the group because she is actually quite intelligent, but just loathes studying.

The Konoe clan is quite well known in the magical community. Konoka's father was a part of Negi's father's team back in the old days. In fact, the dean of Mahora Academy is Konoka's grandfather. She is kidnapped because she is able to do a lot with her magic, but she doesn't realize it.

Funimation has done a great job with the series and seems to be able to hold true to it's origins. There are two seasons of the anime. Well, sort of, each anime is a different retelling of a different manga set in the same universe. The first season, "Mahou Sensei Negima!" is based on the manga of the same name and the the second season "Negima!?" is based on a manga entitles "Negima!? Neo".
