"Mystery Science Theater 3000" - "Alien from L.A." Quiz

This bad movie starred Kathy Ireland and not much of a script. The robots and their human buddy, Mike, did their best to survive the trauma. Hope you enjoy this quiz. Thanks.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene, where are the main characters hanging out?

Answer: The beach

A surfer confronts Kathy Ireland, whose character in the film is named Wanda, and, rather rudely, pushes her glasses back up her nose. The hapless beachgoer is a contrast with the brave and daring character she will become when she enters an alternate world.
2. Wanda finds the gateway to a mysterious new world. Which of the following is she looking for?

Answer: Her father

Her father, Professor Arnold Saknussemm, was played by Richard Haines. The movie was directed by Albert Pyun.
3. What song does Tom Servo dedicate to Kathy Ireland?

Answer: My Wild Irish Ireland

The skit was performed during one of the breaks in the show. Tom sang in an exaggerated fake accent.
4. Where did TV's Frank have to buy a new liver?

Answer: a vending machine invented by Dr. Forrester

This dangerous process required a plethora of quarters. Frank nearly died while he was waiting for the machine to dispense his requested transplant item.
5. In the game "Guess Kathy's Emotions," what the robots think was interesting about Kathy's facial expressions?

Answer: She always seemed to be dull and confused

Kathy's "glasses-tilted" shot from early in the film was repeatedly used to point out Ireland's limited repertoire of responses. The robots made this clear by displaying many pictures of Ireland on a game show-like board.
6. What is unique about the crash scene with the salvage man's Jeep?

Answer: After the crash, the driver is still happy to meet Wanda

He dusts himself off much more quickly than one might expect. Wanda appears to be much more rattled than him.
7. The driver takes Wanda to a new place. Where is it?

Answer: A popular hangout

The massive room is crowded with partygoers. Wanda, understandably still discombobulated, is unable to enjoy the atmosphere.
8. In a chase scene near the end of the film, where does Wanda hide?

Answer: Behind a metal stanchion

It doesn't provide much cover. The angle is of view is almost right out in the open. Still, the guards chasing her run right past. This is one of many frustratingly nonsensical events in the film.
9. What does Crow say he can hear coming down the hall?

Answer: The other plot

"Oh, it's just the other plot." The movie had many confusing storylines. Mike and the robots did not miss the chance to remind the viewers.
10. What was the name of the underground land in the film?

Answer: Atlantis

The movie appeared to be a ripoff of "Mad Max" and several other science fiction films. It was supposed to be based on the novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth," by Jules Verne, but except for the locale, the resemblance isn't too strong.
