Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers' first clue took them to the Malecón on the coast of what body of water?

Answer: The Pacific Ocean

This COVID-19 filmed season, like "The Amazing Race 34", had its starting line prepared for teams outside of the United States, and with that this competition kicked off on the sands of Playa El Salado in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where teams had to race in personal vehicles and on foot through one of Mexico's busiest resort destinations.

Their first stop was the oceanside esplanade known as the Malecón where the Voladores pole held their clue box. After racing around in the Mexico heat, teams were surprised to find that they would race directly into Leg 2, but before this happened, Maya and Rohan became the first team eliminated from the race.
2. Leg 2 had teams racing around Isla Cuale in Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romántica. Both the Detour and the Road Block had teams preparing for which of these?

Answer: Day of the Dead

Continuing their exhausting journey through Puerto Vallarta on foot, teams needed to run to Zona Romántica for all of their tasks and after finding the Iguana Bridge they either collected balloons or sorted through papel picado for their Detour and they started painting calavera designs on their team members for the Road Block. Of note, this season of the race started filming in late October of 2022, which meant that teams were only a week away from the actual Day of the Dead while running their first legs.
3. Teams started Leg 3 climbing El Peñón (depicted) in what Colombian destination?

Answer: Guatapé

Leaving Mexico behind in Leg 3, the eleven remaining teams pushed onward to rural Colombia and kicked off by climbing up and down El Peñón de Guatapé, sixty storeys from bottom to top. It set the stage for a gruelling leg that sent them not only around the town of Guatapé making local food, but heading into the hillsides collecting coffee beans for the perfect brew.

At the end, after flipping between Detours several time, Anthony and Bailey checked into the Pit Stop in last.
4. To get to Medellín in Leg 4, racers took to the skies, hanggliding before even opening their first clue.

Answer: False

Although all ten teams headed into Leg 4 ended up engaging with this adventurous activity before even opening their first clue on a long day in Medellín, they didn't hanggline-- they parasailed. This leg of the race had people running up and down the steep hills of Comuna 13 and searching through the artworks of Plaza Botero to finish off a memorization Road Block. Michelle and Sean, who narrowly avoided elimination the previous two legs, checked into the Pit Stop last and were eliminated.
5. Racers started Leg 5 in Plaza de Armas in what South American country?

Answer: Chile

While many cities in Latin America have their own Plaza de Armas, the "Amazing Race" charter flight flew teams from Colombia to Chile for the fifth leg of the race, letting them loose in the capital of Santiago for the first of a handful of self-drive legs in South America. Teams got themselves lost searching for a classic car and then joined in on some of Santiago's unexpected activities (including building skateboards, performing with the chinchineros, and rock climbing). Cousins Kishori and Karishma were last to hit the mat after fumbling with navigation for the day.
6. At Plaza del Bicentenario in Córdoba, Argentina, racers opened a Detour clue. How many Detours would they encounter in Leg 6?

Answer: Two

Racers crossed the halfway point of the race when they took an eastbound flight to Córdoba, Argentina, the country's second-largest city, for a Mega-Leg, meaning they would face off against two sets of Detours and Road Blocks before hitting their next Pit Stop and facing elimination. Teams drove themselves in and out of the city for this, and while some teams were able to stay ahead on their own merits, others worked together to survive a leg of tough mental tasks.

Despite convenient alliances amongst other teams, it was Derek and Shelisa who were unable to maintain a higher spot in the leg, falling behind off the jump and getting eliminated before reaching the second Detour.
7. Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja was where teams located their Detour in Leg 7. Both tasks involved Uruguayan Carnival, but which involved playing an instrument?

Answer: 'Candombe'

Teams raced from the fort overlooking the coast of Montevideo, Uruguay and zigzagged their way along its beaches and through its old town in Leg 7, which had teams welding alongside dockworkers and performing cultural activities related to Carnival. In Ciudad Vieja, teams could either learn to perform a song and dance in Spanish or perform on large drums known as candombe. Sunny and Bizzy were unable to overcome their average (lucky) 7th position and, at this point in the race, irt meant last place.
8. Teams commenced Leg 8 on one of the two bridges in what Caribbean capital?

Answer: Bridgetown

In an "Amazing Race" first, teams dropped down on the small island nation of Barbados for Leg 8, starting in three groups of two and heading out across Chamberlain Bridge for what turned out to be a rainy day around Bridgetown and Christ Church. After playing road tennis and finding Rihanna's childhood home, teams completed tasks on the southern beaches of the island and checked in at the Pit Stop.

In an unexpected logistical turn, Angie and Danny lost their camera crew driving between tasks, and the wait for them to catch up put them far enough behind that they were eliminated at the mat.
9. Teams took up which of these on Olympus Beach in the Dominican Republic town of Cabarete in Leg 10?

Answer: Windsurfing

After leaving Barbados at the end of Leg 8, racers stayed on the north shores of the Dominican Republic in Legs 9 and 10 to fight for a spot in the finale. After heading through the jungles around Puerto Plata for their first leg here, racers stayed near the beach for the second, visiting Sosúa for a series of tasks pertaining to the region's tourism industry. One of these tasks, the Road Block, had racers fighting the waves to stay afloat on a windsurfing board for one minute.

At the end of the tenth leg, Amber and Vinny were eliminated in fourth place, but their loss was short-lived since Vinny dropped to one knee and proposed to Amber on the spot.
10. Finding Arch Street in the race's final leg, teams finished their last Road Block at the house of what famous American figure?

Answer: Betsy Ross

Racing around the city of Philadelphia for the final leg, the three remaining teams navigated landmarks and American history-themed tasks en route to the million dollar prize. After memorizing and reciting the preamble to the Declaration of Independence, racers found the Betsy Ross House and had to recreate the original American Flag (a la Betsy Ross) while solving a logic puzzle about the original Thirteen Colonies.

After building their own Liberty Bell, racers headed to the Finish Line where Ricky and Cesar took the million dollar prize.
