Amazing Race 34 Trivia Questions

1. Teams headed from France to Spain in Leg 8 with the implication that they would be facing a Mega-Leg. To where did they fly?

From Quiz
"The Amazing Race 34" [5]

Answer: Málaga

Leaving the south of France at the start of Leg 8, teams were flown five hundred miles southwest to the south of Spain and the coastal city of Málaga where they departed in two groups leaving fifteen minutes apart from one another. To begin this Mega-Leg, teams had to proceed on foot through the city, starting from the Pit Start at Castillo de Gibralfaro and descending down to the Plaza de la Merced.

2. In Leg 6, teams departed the city of Amman, Jordan bound for what region of France?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [4]

Answer: Dordogne

Crossing back over the Mediterranean in Leg 6, teams left the Middle East headed for Dordogne, a castle and cliff-laden region in Southwestern France. Teams started this leg of the race departing in groups from the Château de Beynac in the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac, getting released onto this leg of the race in groups of two leaving fifteen minutes apart from one another. Glenda and Lumumba, who arrived at the previous Pit Stop in last place, were spared from elimination due to Abby and Will's COVID-19 diagnosis and as a result they left alone in last, forty-five minutes after the leading teams.

3. In Leg 3, teams opened their first clue in what Italian city, the start of a double-length Mega-Leg?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [2]

Answer: Bologna

Teams left Innsbruck between Legs 2 and 3 and were flown on the "Amazing Race" charter plane to the city of Bologna, Italy to commence what would be a non-stop Mega-Leg-- two legs of the race with two Detours and two Road Blocks, all of which teams would need to complete without hitting a Pit Stop until the very end. In Bologna, teams were released from the Pit Start at the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca, opening clues in groups of two, four, and four, respectively, based on their arrivals at the Pit Stop in Austria.

4. The race's second Road Block had teams learning how to yodel in what country?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 34"

Answer: Austria

Racing into Innsbruck, Austria, deeper into the European Alps in Leg 2, teams stopped off at the fields of Grünwalderhof to complete a musical task. Here, dressing in Austrian garb, racers needed to join local yodellers and learn both the songs and the attributed actions for three specific yodels with phonetic help. If they could properly perform their yodels without messing up the pitch and the words, they could get their next clue. The racers chosen for this task were Claire, Michael, Rex, Glenda, Linton, Emily, Dom, Aubrey, Abby, Michelle, and Mattie.

5. The first Road Block teams encountered in Spain (in Leg 8) had them recreating an artwork made by what famous painter?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [5]

Answer: Pablo Picasso

Reaching the Plaza de la Merced teams ripped open their first Road Block of the Mega-Leg and selected the team member who was ready to be 'a master of pieces'. The hint would have to clue them in to the fact that they would need to spend time recreating Pablo Picasso's artwork "Three Musicians", but to do that they needed to pick a station and, using six pieces of painted glass, reassemble the piece by laying them overtop one another in the correct order. Once correctly made, they would receive their next clue. Claire, Michelle, Aubrey, Marcus, and Emily completed this task.

6. Which team did not complete the 'Walnut Cracker' Detour task in Leg 6?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [4]

Answer: Derek and Claire

Leaving their Road Block, teams drove themselves to La Ferme de Turnac in Domme to find their Detour clue box, and the first choice they had before them was a task titled 'Walnut Cracker'. For this, teams had to proceed to a nearby station and use a local method of harvesting walnut oil by simply cracking, grinding, and pressing the nuts to collect and bottle the critical liquid, filling a container to a specified line with walnuts grabbed from a marked area. Marcus and Michael, Emily and Molly, Luis and Michelle, Aubrey and David, and Quinton and Mattie completed this task.

7. Which team completed the 'Camel Caravan' Detour task in Leg 4?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [3]

Answer: Marcus and Michael

After driving an hour and a half through Jordan, teams arrived at Petra following their Road Block and made their way to a clue box waiting at The Treasury, right in front of Petra's most famous structure. The first options teams had was 'Camel Caravan', a task which required that they join locals in dealing with the ships of the desert. To complete this task, they needed to collect four bags of hay and provide water from a cistern (along with three jugs) to resting camels at a nearby marketplace. Marcus and Michael and Linton and Sharik completed this task, collecting a camel and bringing it to their station upon conclusion of the challenge.

8. Racers who finished the 'Head of the Class' Detour task during their Italy Mega-Leg brushed up on which topic?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [2]

Answer: Anatomy

Teams who chose to complete the 'Head of the Class' Detour option in Bologna headed to the oldest university in the western world, the University of Bologna, where they had to take up scholarly pursuits. Visiting the Teatro Anatomico, teams had to listen to an eight-minute-long sixteenth-century lecture before heading to a nearby courtyard to take a timed exam, identifying sixteen specific bones and organs on a chart of the human body within a minute and a half. A perfect score would give them their clue. Glenda and Lumumba, Linton and Sharik, Abby and Will, Aubrey and David, Quinton and Mattie, Emily and Molly, and Rich and Dom all finished this one.

9. The challenge found at Biergarten Seehaus was denoted with which single-word clue?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [1]

Answer: 'Saw'

Teams heading straight across Munich to the riverside would be able to locate the 'Saw' challenge at the Biergarten Seehaus and there they would have to work together with a two-man saw to complete a bit of physical labour. With this saw, racers would need to listen to local music and cut their logs in time to the beat of the songs being played. Once their log was cut, they could trade the piece to a local farmer for their puzzle piece.

10. Arriving in Florence, team members had to work with sculpture for their second Mega-Leg Road Block in Italy. What did they need to chisel away at to make their sculpture?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 34"

Answer: Plaster

Teams continued their Mega-Leg heading from Bologna, Italy to the city of Florence and upon arriving at the Villa Bardini, racers had to choose one team member to create art. With a block of plaster and a handful of chiselling tools (and a mallet) they needed to reveal the sculpture within, chipping away at larger chunks and then tinier details to provide a smooth and intricate art piece. Once this was approved, they could keep on racing. If racers damaged their sculpture, they would be provided plaster to make their piece as close to the original as possible. Racers finishing this task were Marcus, Molly, Michelle, Sharik, Abby, Mattie, Aubrey, Derek, Lumumba, and Dom.

11. Both Detour tasks in Leg 4 were completed while teams visited what location in the country of Jordan?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 34"

Answer: Petra

Though teams commenced their fourth leg in the Wadi Rum Desert they eventually made their way to the archaeological sites at Petra for the Detour and, there, they completed either a physical or a mentally-inclined task. The former, 'Camel Caravan', had teams racing through the local market to collect sacks of hay and jugs of water, both required to fill a feeding station for resting camels. The latter, however, had teams working through a twelve-piece slide puzzle meant to recreate the facade of the Palace Tomb. In either case, completion would allow them to race on foot to the next Pit Stop.

12. Only one team chose to complete the 'Sailboat Supply' Detour option when they encountered their first Mega-Leg Detour in Spain. Which team was it?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [5]

Answer: Luis and Michelle

Reaching El Cubo would allow teams to collect their first Detour options and provide them the opportunity to pick to their strengths. Only Luis and Michelle chose 'Sailboat Supply' which had them pedalling to Playa de El Palo to make a delivery. Collecting a cooler full of fresh ice, they had to blow up an inflatable paddle board and transport it and several lifejackets to a boat moored offshore...standing up, of course. If they returned the empty cooler they could trade it for their next clue.

13. How many different games did teams need to complete to get their clue for the 'Medieval Gaming' Detour in Leg 6?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [4]

Answer: Three & 3

In the 'Medieval Gaming' task, teams needed to complete a trio of challenges in order to collect their next clue. Joining locals, racers had to work together to coordinate a ball-and-board game, execute a dextrous sack toss, and balance rocks on a suspended disk. Teams could complete all three tasks in any order of their choosing, and once they finished them all successfully, they could receive their next clue. Derek and Claire and Glenda and Lumumba completed this task before departing.

14. Teams completing the 'Palace Puzzle' Detour task in Leg 4 had to finish a slide puzzle of what Petra site?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [3]

Answer: Palace Tomb

The 'Palace Puzzle' task was the alternative to 'Camel Caravan' for teams' Petra Detour, and for this one they raced to the Palace Tomb. There, they would have a twelve-square slide puzzle to complete which, when finished, would depict the Palace Tomb as it was believed to look when it was first constructed. Derek and Claire, Luis and Michelle, Emily and Molly, Abby and Will, Quinton and Mattie, Aubrey and David, and Glenda and Lumumba all finished this challenge.

15. Teams completing 'The Big Cheese' as their Detour option in the first half of the Italy Mega-Leg worked with which local food item?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [2]

Answer: Parmesan

Teams who could think on their feet were best-suited for selecting 'The Big Cheese' for their Detour task in Bologna, and for this challenge they had to visit Formaggeria Barbieri, a local cheese store, to collect a forty-kilogram parmesan cheese wheel. Carting it through the city streets they then needed to have the wheel cut in half at a local restaurant and subsequently delivered to get their next clue. Marcus and Michael, Luis and Michelle, and Derek and Claire completed this challenge.

16. In the Kingdom of Jordan, team members used metal detectors to locate a metal plate bearing what name in Leg 4?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 34"

Answer: Petra

Racing into the Wadi Rum Desert in the race's fourth Leg, Marcus, Molly, Abby, Luis, Quinton, Derek, David, Lumumba, and Linton were selected to 'test their metal', by which the clue implied they would be taking metal detectors and searching the sands around a marked area for one of a handful of metal plates buried near the surface. Once located, the metal plates uncovered would bear the name of their next destination-- 'PETRA'.

17. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 11 in Iceland?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [6]

Answer: Aubrey and David

If teams correctly laid out their volcano names, they would be given the instruction to drive to their final Pit Stop of the race at Gullfoss, a massive Southwest Icelandic waterfall. Derek and Claire were the first to hit the mat, managing to retake the lead position across this leg of the race and claiming their third first place win of the season. This time, the pair won enough Expedia Reward Points for a five-day trip for two to London, England. Aubrey and David were eliminated in this leg of the race as they elected to take a two hour penalty by not completing the volcano task at the Silfra Fissure. Already in last, there was no way for the pair to overtake the other teams.

18. In the 'Fish Fry' Detour task, racers had to make which traditional Spanish dish?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [5]

Answer: Espetos

For the four teams completing 'Fish Fry' had to ride out and visit the Playa de El Palo as well, but while the other task took them out on the water, this one had them staying on the beach to cook a traditional meal of espetos. For this, teams needed to skewer eighteen fish in three groups of six and then season and cook them on an open flame in a boat filled with sand. If they made it to the chef's approval they'd keep racing.

19. Which team was eliminated at the panoramic lookout at the end of Leg 6?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [4]

Answer: Glenda and Lumumba

Once racers finished their Detour tasks, they received one last clue and proceeded by vehicle and on foot to a nearby panoramic lookout with views of the Dordogne River valley below. Marcus and Michael managed to retake the lead in this leg due to their impeccable navigation skills, collecting $7,500 USD each as a prize. It was their second win of the race. Though Aubrey and David struggled to locate the Pit Stop, Glenda and Lumumba, already in the back of the pack at the start of the leg, managed to get their vehicle stuck in a ditch. They couldn't make up that lost ground and they were eliminated in seventh place.

20. Which team was eliminated from the race in Petra, Jordan at the end of Leg 4?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [3]

Answer: Linton and Sharik

Once teams completed their Detour tasks, they were given a clue sending them directly to the next Pit Stop amongst the ruins at Petra's Great Temple where the last team to check in would be eliminated from the race. The first team to land on the mat this leg was Luis and Michelle who, after completing their slide puzzle, beat Derek and Claire in a foot race to the Pit Stop. This leg, they won themselves a cash prize of $5,000 USD. The last footrace was the decider as Aubrey and David were able to check in at the Pit Stop before father-daughter team Linton and Sharik who were, subsequently, eliminated.

21. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Munich at the end of Leg 1?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [1]

Answer: Aastha and Nina

Once teams had their puzzle pieces, they could combine them to create the shape of Friedensengel, a notable Munich landmark, and read off the instructions to ensure their proper arrival: "Park in one of the available marked parking spaces between 22 Widenmayerstraße and 25 Widenmayerstraße. To cross Luitpoldbrücke or Prinzregentenstraße, the cross-walk is located underground." If they took these instructions properly they would find Phil and the first Pit Stop mat. Derek and Claire were the first to arrive on the mat, following all the instructions to Pit Stop and winning themselves $2,500 USD each for their successful scrambling. Last to land on the mat in this leg was Aastha and Nina and, because there were no non-elimination legs in this race, they were sent home in twelfth place.

22. Teams were directed to the town of Ronda during the back half of the Mega-Leg, but what were they given to indicate that fact?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [5]

Answer: A postcard

Once racers wrapped up their Detours on the Málaga waterfront they were handed a postcard bearing an image of Ronda's famous bridge, Puente Nuevo. All teams needed to do was get there, driving themselves west in provided convertibles to locate a tour guide who would provide them with their next clue. When they reached the bridge, the person with their clue in-hand would be waving an Andalusian flag.

23. Leg 7 kept teams in France but it brought them to what city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [4]

Answer: Toulouse

After staying the night wherever they wanted in the town of Domme (thanks to the Travelocity app), teams awakened on the day of the seventh leg of the race and resumed the course from the panorama overlooking the Dordogne River in Southwestern France. Their first challenge would be to navigate out of the Dordogne region and drive themselves to the city of Toulouse, one hundred miles to the south. Teams departed from the previous Pit Stop in groups of two leaving fifteen minutes apart.

24. At the start of Leg 5, teams were informed that production received confirmation of COVID-19. How many teams were eliminated from the race as a result of this?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [3]

Answer: One & 1

At the start of the leg, teams were brought to their embarkation spot and prepared for a day of racing though unlike in previous legs, where teams were released in staggered groups, Phil brought all remaining teams together for an announcement. It was there that he informed the others of the positive COVID-19 test result amongst them. With Abby and Will on video call from their hotel quarantine, all were informed of their unfortunate elimination from the race. Additionally, teams were informed that there would be no elimination in Leg 5 on account of the circumstances faced. They would, however, leave on Leg 6 in groups in the order that they arrived at the Pit Stop at the end of this leg with the final team to check in departing at a massive time deficit.

25. The second half of the Mega-Leg sent teams to what Tuscan city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [2]

Answer: Florence

Completing their Road Blocks in Bologna, teams were told to drive themselves into Tuscany to find the city of Florence. Once there, teams could locate Villa Bardini on the south side of the Arno River and find their next clue box there. Teams being led to this second city were told that this was the half-way point of their Mega-Leg, and going forward they would encounter another Road Block and another Detour before seeing the Pit Stop mat.

26. In Leg 2, teams completed tasks in and around what Tyrolean city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [1]

Answer: Innsbruck

Taking a departure format similar to the later legs of "The Amazing Race 33", eleven teams departed from the Pit Stop in groups based on the order they arrived at the mat in the previous leg, meaning three teams departed at 8:00am, four at 8:15am, and four at 8:30am. Ripping open their clues in front of the Friedensengel, teams were told to drive themselves ninety miles south into Austria towards Innsbruck. If they could find Grünwalderhof in the town of Patsch, they could find their next clue.

27. Most teams racing through Toulouse, France in Leg 7 completed the 'Say Six' Detour task, which had them saying six of what?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 34"

Answer: Lines of poetry

Completing a series of tasks in the French city of Toulouse, teams ended off the leg with their Detour choice, selecting either 'Say Six' or 'Lay Bricks' depending on their preferences. Four teams chose the former task, which involved visiting the plaza and learning six total lines of a famous Victor Hugo poem that they would need to recite back to a local judge. The other two teams aided bricklayers in repairing a street-side promenade, placing bricks in an intricate design to receive their next clue.

28. For the final Road Block of the race, teams climbed to the top of a bridge and rappelled down the side. What did they collect from the top?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [6]

Answer: Guitar pick

As soon as teams finished the whiskey challenge, they were told to drive themselves into the city of Nashville to find their next clue box at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge. The challenge there was the race's final Road Block and it involved one racer from each pair climbing and rappelling the bridge, a height of three hundred feet above the Cumberland River. At the top, the participant needed to grab a Gibson guitar pick, an indication of their next destination: Nashville's Gibson Garage. Derek, Emily, and Michelle completed this task.

29. The 'Bend over Backwards' Detour task that teams encountered in Ronda was finished by how many teams

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [5]

Answer: One

Reaching Puente Nuevo, teams opened their second Detour task of the Mega-Leg and made their selection. Only Marcus and Michael completed the 'Bend over Backwards' which sent them to the Arab Baths of Ronda. For this challenge, the pair had to use bricks to construct a strong Moorish arch, working together to not only fully complete the structure but ensure that it could stand on its own without any additional support. If they could make a solid arch, they could get their next clue.

30. The Road Block teams encountered in Leg 7 required that teams participate in which sporting event?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 34" [4]

Answer: Rugby

Arriving in Toulouse, teams found a Road Block task waiting for them at the Stade Toulousain and this one required that someone 'take one for the team'. For this task, the selected team member joined the country's pro women's rugby team in a drill. On a whistle they had to run, roll, pick up a ball, pass it, catch it, and score a drop kick to receive their next clue. If they could perform the whole set of tasks they could receive their next clue. Molly, Luis, Claire, Marcus, Aubrey, and Quinton participated in this challenge.
