It was revealed that his first name was Douglas and that he had hidden "the secrets of love and caring" along with a tank of gentle cuttlefish. The Monarch was not taking this seriously, even though his wife was. The Monarch killed Dr. Dugong on the first day of arching, something that the Guild of Calamitous Intent did not allow.

Henchman 21 told Hank that he could not die and even called him immortal. This was true and was explained in the episode "Powerless in the Face of Death", that neither Hank nor Dean could truly die. Dr. Venture had clones of both Hank and Dean in the compound.

In the show, Hank and Dean have died many times but there was always another clone with their previous memories incorporated into them that would take their place. Hank was the first Venture brother to know this secret; Dean at this point still was unaware of it.
