Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 11, teams departed from the Pit Stop at which of these locations?

Answer: New Zealand's south island

Departing from the Inverary Sheep Station in the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand, teams were instructed to head to the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua in a camper. To do this, however, teams needed to make their way to Picton and hitch a ride on a ferry to Wellington, New Zealand on the country's north island. Blake and Paige, who took the Fast Forward clue in the previous leg of the race left just after 2am while the remaining teams began to leave just over an hour after. Players could board the ferry (over four hundred miles away) starting at 11:30am, otherwise they'd have to wait for another a few hours later. Because of this, almost all four teams were equal arriving in Wellington...if only Oswald and Danny hadn't missed the first ferry.
2. Which team took the final Fast Forward of this "Amazing Race"?

Answer: Tara and Wil

Arriving at the Maori Institute, teams arrived too late at the gates and were bunched up despite the ferry ordeal. Once the location opened at 7am the following morning and they experienced a short Maori tribal dance, teams received their next piece of Route Info directing them to 'The Lost World' at the Waitomo Caves nearly a hundred miles away. Instead of completing this, Tara and Wil took their camper to the Fast Forward clue at Mount Tarawera.

In order to claim the clue directing them directly to the Pit Stop, they needed to descend the precarious scree rock walls of this dormant volcano to reach the clue box below.

Their success made them the final team to claim the award during the course of the race.
3. All three teams completing the Detour task in Leg 11 (New Zealand) took the same task.

Answer: True

Arriving at 'The Lost World', teams received their Detour task, a choice between 'Drop' or 'Climb'. In 'Drop', teams needed to descend 350 feet into the 'Lost World', a rather large subterranean cave system. This large descent would only support the participants on a small rope rappelling system, but it'd be quick.

In 'Climb', teams needed to climb 100 feet down a ladder into the same cavern. Although it wasn't as precarious, teams would need to walk the remaining distance down to the clue box, and this could take potentially longer. Suffice to say, at such a crucial point in the game, all three teams participating took the 'Drop' challenge to save the time. After the Detour, teams were instructed to head to 4-Track Adventures.
4. The Road Block task in Leg 11 required that teams do what?

Answer: Ride ATVs

Once at 4-Track Adventures, more than one hundred miles away from 'Lost World', players received their Road Block clue requiring that one player from each participating team be a 'rough-rider'. In this task, members needed to hop onto an ATV and take a ride through a forest trail with a number of obstacles. Once teams arrived at a beach, they'd find their clue on the ocean's coast.

In this task, Paige, Alex, and Danny ended up finishing the Road Block and returning to their partners at the entrance, then headed off to the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was eliminated in the end of Leg 11?

Answer: Oswald and Danny

After the Road Block, teams were instructed to head directly to the final elimination Pit Stop of the race: the Warbirds Hangar of Ardmore Airport in Auckland, New Zealand. Tara and Wil, who claimed the Fast Forward earlier, were the first to arrive at the Pit Stop here and were guaranteed a spot in the final three as well as a trip to Mexico for use after the race.

As the other teams rolled in, Oswald and Danny, who ended up falling behind during their Detour in the 'Lost World', arrived at the Pit Stop in fourth (and last) place. Subsequently, they were eliminated from the game.
6. Beginning Leg 12, teams departed from the Pit Stop in New Zealand. Did their first clue tell them to leave the country?

Answer: No

Leaving the eleventh Pit Stop, the Warbirds Hangar of Ardmore Airport, in the middle of the night the remaining three teams were instructed to head to their next package of Route Info at the statue and tomb of Sir John Logan Campbell, regarded as 'The Father of Auckland', within the city limits at the top of One Tree Hill.

After this, teams were directed to the airport- it was time to head back to the United States in this penultimate leg of the race...but it wasn't over yet! Hopping on a plane, teams flew to Hawaii to get their next clue.
7. To which Hawaiian island did teams travel in Leg 12 of the race?

Answer: Maui

Flying four thousand five hundred miles across the Pacific Ocean, teams made their way to Maui, Hawaii (via Sydney). Once they touched down in the city, they had to make their way to a sugar cane field outside the city and find their way (using a map) to the abandoned ruins of a sugar mill on the coast.

At this location, teams would discover the clue box near a set of cars. This clue instructed teams to head to the Pauwela Pineapple Field to find the water tower at which their next cluebox would be located. Of course, this would take teams into the daylight hours as opposed to the pitch-black nighttime that they were currently in.
8. The Walk Detour task was completed by all three teams participating in Leg 12 (in Hawaii).

Answer: True

At the Pauwela Pineapple Field, teams found the final Detour of the race, a choice between 'Bike' or 'Walk'. in 'Bike', teams were required to take a set of mountain bikes and safety gear and ride around the field looking for a single red pineapple. While this may have been speedier for players, the 'Walk' option required that players travel through the field on the hunt for one of four yellow pineapples amongst the rest.

A potentially longer task, it was easier for players to find one amongst many. All three teams decided to partake in the 'Walk' task and forgo the biking. Once the pineapple was obtained, players could open it up to find Route Info.
9. Where did teams need to go to complete the Road Block task of Leg 12?

Answer: Into the water

After the Detour, teams were told to head to McGregor Point on Maui and follow an arrow-marked path to the end of a dock overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Once here, they would need to take a boat ride to the center of the dormant, underwater volcano, Molokini Island to receive their Road Block clue from a floating buoy.

This Road Block task required that team members dive into the ocean with a snorkeling set and locate a sealed box underwater containing their next clue. Blake, Wil, and Alex all participated in this penultimate Road Block task.
10. Which team was first to step on the Pit Stop mat in Leg 12?

Answer: Blake and Paige

After the Road Block task for this leg of the race, teams were instructed to tell their boat driver to head to a specific dock, then they were required to drive to the final Pit Stop of the race, the Huialoha Church on Maui. Teams were given a map with which they needed to find a specific access road to get to their location.

Although all three teams remained close throughout the most of the leg, Blake and Paige edged out Tara and Wil by mere seconds to place first in the leg. Because of this, they won a trip to London and Paris for use after the completion of the race. Chris and Alex, not far behind, arrived in third place but were not eliminated in this second-to-last leg.
11. To which state did teams need to travel in the beginning of Leg 13, the final leg of the race?

Answer: Alaska

Departing from the final Pit Stop in the middle of the night, teams made their way to Hana Bay and Queen Ka'ahumanu's birthplace on Maui to receive their next clue. This clue instructed teams to leave the island state of Hawaii and fly to Anchorage, Alaska where they would receive further instructions.

In order to do this, teams needed to board a flight in Maui, head to Honolulu, transfer in the continental United States (in this case, San Francisco and Seattle), and land in Alaska the following day. Once in Alaska, teams needed to find another airport to find Rust's Flying Services, an independently run plane hangar.
12. Once at Trapper Creek, teams had to sleep in which of these overnight before collecting their next clue?

Answer: Igloo

Once at Rust's Flying Services, teams needed to hitch a ride on a private aircraft to Trapper Creek, Alaska. Once teams landed, they would find their clue waiting for them at the end of a snowy, marked path. Here, teams discovered that they would be spending the night in a trio of igloos near their landing strip.

In the morning, they were forced to don pairs of snowshoes and trek through the nearby forest down a marked trail to their next clue box instructing them to hop into a large Snow Cat and drive across a frozen lake to more Route Info.
13. Which was not amongst the tools given for the final Road Block of the race in Leg 13?

Answer: Matches

Teams proceeded down a marked trail to a line-up of trucks and headed to their next clue, Route Info, at Homesteader's Hardware Store at Big Lake. Once here, the teams needed to amass the tools provided for them and head to Hurricane Gulch along the highway. Once at a certain parking lot, they would find their Road Block task which required one final member to complete a task using the tools provided at the hardware store. That member needed to break their way into a large ice globe to retrieve a clue in its center.

Although matches were not provided, lighters and a propane torch were. Blake, Wil, and Chris all finished this task and obtained the clue.
14. What was the final city visited in the race?

Answer: San Francisco

After the Road Block, the three remaining teams were told to fly to their final destination city, San Francisco, California to find San Francisco Landmark #97, the Atkinson-Esher House at Broadway and Jones. All three teams returned to the airport in Anchorage, Alaska and proceeded south along the Pacific coast to Portland and then onwards to reach Oakland, California.

When the teams reached their destination, they were told (via another Route Info) to head on foot down to the Municipal Pier on the waterfront to find their final clue.
15. Which team was first to cross the finish line in "The Amazing Race 2"?

Answer: Chris and Alex

At Municipal Pier, teams found their final clue instructing them to travel to Murray Circle at East Fort Baker. Once there, teams would need to follow a trail of flags to the Finish Line overlooking San Francisco Bay. To get there, teams needed to take a taxi to the start of the trail.

Although Tara and Wil led the race from the Municipal Pier and began running the trail at East Fort Baker, they were soon overtaken by Chris and Alex in a lengthy footrace along the coast. As a result, Chris and Alex passed Wil less than fifty feet from the Finish Line and became the winners of the second "Amazing Race" winning one million dollars.

They were followed by Tara and Will less than two minutes later, and then by Blake and Paige less than an hour after that.
