Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team claimed the Fast Forward in Leg 9 in Sydney?

Answer: Chris and Alex

Departing from the eighth Pit Stop of the race at 8:30pm, Danny and Oswald were given their first bit of Route Info for Leg 9 instructing them to find BridgeClimb on Cumberland Street. Once there, teams needed to sign up to climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

The first team would be able to climb at 5:45am, and teams could only traverse the side of the bridge one at a time, so the line was first-come-first-serve. Chris and Alex, instead of climbing the bridge, opted to use the Fast Forward clue instead.

In this Fast Forward, teams needed to find Harry's Cafe in Sydney and order a meat pie. Once both members ate their individual meat pie, they would be able to head directly to the Pit Stop for that Leg of the race.
2. To which city did teams need to fly in Leg 9 of the race?

Answer: Adelaide

After completing the bridge climb, all teams needed to make their way by plane from Sydney to Adelaide, Australia. Once here, racers found an additional charter flight and had to sign up for one of three departure times. After this, teams landed in the city Coober Pedy in the Australian Outback where they were told to find their next clue at the Metal Tree.
Chris and Alex, who completed the Fast Forward, also made their way to Adelaide, but through an earlier, connecting flight to Melbourne.
In Adelaide, teams caught charter flights at the National Jet Systems Terminal. The first flight contained Chris and Alex and Danny and Oswald, the second contained Tara and Wil and Blake and Paige, and the final charter contained Gary and Dave.
3. In the 'Heat Up' Detour task of Leg 9, how many holes of golf needed to be played?

Answer: Three

At the Metal Tree, teams found their Detour clue for the ninth leg of the race, a choice between 'Cool Down' and 'Heat Up'. In 'Cool Down', teams needed to find a local opal mine known as Opal Quest and dig through a specific pile of dirt for a true opal.

Although it could take longer to find the opal, teams would be in the cool air of the mine rather than out in the hot sun. Oswald and Danny and Tara and Wil completed the 'Cool Down' Detour task. In 'Heat Up', teams needed to go to to the world's hottest golf course in Coober Pedy, a slew of difficult-to-navigate holes and tees.

Although it's just a quick three holes of golf, teams would need to brave the heat and use a map to play. Blake and Paige and Gary and Dave attempted and succeeded in this Detour task.
4. Which team member did not complete the Road Block task in Leg 9 of the race in Coober Pedy?

Answer: Blake

After the Detour task, teams were instructed to make their way out of Coober Pedy to The Breakaways, a national park. Once at Lookout #2, they would find their Road Block clue. In this Road Block, teams needed to choose one member who would use a boomerang, throw it into the air, and have it come back around into a marked circle. Once the team member was successfully able to do this once, they would receive their next clue. Team members would have to wait in line in order to proceed if other teams were also completing the task. Paige, Oswald, Tara, and Gary completed this Detour task and proceeded to the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 9?

Answer: Gary and Dave

After the Road Block, teams were instructed to follow a marked path off the trail from Lookout #2 and proceed directly to the Pit Stop, an Aboriginal Camp in the Australian Outback. Chris and Alex, who obtained the Fast Forward clue in Sydney, were able to skip all tasks and go directly to the Pit Stop at the Aboriginal Camp outside Coober Pedy.

As a result, they placed first and won an American Airlines trip to Cancun for use after the end of the race. Gary and Dave, who fell behind early in the leg after a rough trip to the charter flight, were unable to catch up, fell even further behind at the Road Block, and were eliminated from the race, placing fifth.
6. Teams departing from the ninth Pit Stop were instructed to fly to New Zealand's north island.

Answer: False

Departing from the Pit Stop in an aboriginal camp outside Coober Pedy, Australia, teams were instructed to leave the country and fly directly to Queenstown on the south island of New Zealand. To do this, teams needed to take their cars to a group of tandem tractor trailers, travel across the outback, and arrive at an airport in Glendambo where they would be able to fly to Adelaide and then onward to Queenstown. All teams made their way from Glendambo to Adelaide, then to Melbourne, then to Christchurch, New Zealand, and then to Queenstown; the trip took over twenty-four hours. Once in Queenstown, teams needed to go to Wentworth Station near Victoria Bridge to find their next clue.
7. Which team completed the Fast Forward task in Leg 10?

Answer: Blake and Paige

Upon landing in Queenstown, the ability to use the Fast Forward for Leg 10 was made available. In this Fast Forward, teams had to find a company known as Shotover Jetboats and ride one of these vehicles at high speeds down Shotover River. Once a team found the flag at the end of the track, they would be able to skip all tasks and go directly to the tenth Pit Stop of the race. Blake and Paige decided to make use of this Fast Forward, leaving only one team in the race with the ability to use theirs. The remaining three teams made their way to the next clue at Wentworth Station, instructing them to go to the Nevis Highwire Platform for their proceeding clue. Once there, teams needed to go two-by-two across a gorge in a gondola to get their next clue.
8. Which Detour task was completed by the most teams in New Zealand in Leg 10?

Answer: Quick Jump

Once at the Nevis Highwire Platform, teams had to make a Detour choice between 'High Jump' or 'Long Hike'. In 'High Jump', teams needed to remain in the gondola and perform the world's second-highest bungee jump (in tandem). As much as it would be terrifying, tams would have a much quicker time performing the task.

In 'Long Hike', teams needed to hike down from the gondola to the same clue box at the bottom of the cliff. Although it would be a longer trek, it wouldn't be as frightening. Oswald and Danny, Tara and Wil, and Chris and Alex all did the 'Quick Jump' task while Blake and Paige had the Fast Forward clue.

After this, teams received more Route Info.
9. How many black sheep did team members need to herd in the Road Block task of Leg 10?

Answer: Three

After the Detour, teams needed to make their way to the Canterbury Plains to the Inverary Sheep Station, more than three hundred miles away. Once there, teams needed to complete the Road Block task. For this Road Block, team members needed to jump into a sheep pen and separate nineteen white sheep from three black ones. Once both coloured sets of sheep were in separate pens, teams would be handed their next clue. Wil, Chris, and Oswald all opted to complete this task though Chris and Oswald had clear troubles in doing so.
10. Which team arrived at the tenth Pit Stop in New Zealand in last place?

Answer: Oswald and Danny

After the Road Block, teams needed to run directly to the Pit Stop adjacent to the nearby corrals. Blake and Paige, having claimed the Fast Forward on Shotover River, were able to skip all tasks and drive to the Pit Stop at Inverary Sheep Station in Canterbury Plains.

As a result, they were able to snatch a first place victory for the first time in the race. Because they came in first, they won a trip to Puerto Rico. The last team to arrive, Danny and Oswald, trailed for the most of the leg and were unable to recover. Luckily, since Leg 10 was one of four non-elimination legs, they were spared from elimination completely.
