Amazing Race 2 Trivia Questions

1. In Leg 2, teams needed to find their clue at Iguagu Falls. Which team member did not do this?

From Quiz
Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Wil

In the first Road Block task of the race, team members needed to hitch a ride in a boat at Foz do Iguacu and travel up Iguazu River to the basin of Iguacu Falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in South America. Once there, teams needed to locate a flag, dock their boat, and then run to the route marker to receive their clue, a piece of Route Info instructing them to go to the Pit Stop at a Jungle Camp. This Road Block task was completed by Tara, Alex, Norm, Paige, Claire, Dave, Russell, Danny, and Mary. Shola and Doyin, who claimed the early Fast Forward, did not attempt the task. This task mimics an early route marker in the first season of the show. In the very first episode, the first major site on the race was Victoria Falls in Zambia.

2. Which team claimed the Fast Forward in Leg 9 in Sydney?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [5]

Answer: Chris and Alex

Departing from the eighth Pit Stop of the race at 8:30pm, Danny and Oswald were given their first bit of Route Info for Leg 9 instructing them to find BridgeClimb on Cumberland Street. Once there, teams needed to sign up to climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge. The first team would be able to climb at 5:45am, and teams could only traverse the side of the bridge one at a time, so the line was first-come-first-serve. Chris and Alex, instead of climbing the bridge, opted to use the Fast Forward clue instead. In this Fast Forward, teams needed to find Harry's Cafe in Sydney and order a meat pie. Once both members ate their individual meat pie, they would be able to head directly to the Pit Stop for that Leg of the race.

3. In the first Leg of the race, only one team chose to complete the 'Beach' Detour task. Which team was it?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Peggy and Claire

Arriving at the top of Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, teams needed to choose between 'Mountain' and 'Beach'. In 'Mountain', teams needed to rappel 590 feet down the side of Sugarloaf Mountain to the ground below. Although the task was more physically demanding, teams would be able to complete it quicker than the other. In 'Beach', teams needed to travel to Ipanema Beach, find a specific lifeguard station, and using only a picture, find the girl who the song "The Girl from Ipanema" was based on. The task was further away, but teams completing it wouldn't have to do the more dangerous task. Peggy and Claire were the only team to attempt the 'Beach' Detour, and though they were near the end of the pack for the most of the first leg, they arrived at the Pit Stop in tenth place, beating out Deidre and Hillary.

4. To which destination did teams travel in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [4]

Answer: Hong Kong

Departing from the sixth Pit Stop of the race in Karin Village, teams were instructed to go to the Seven Spires in Chiang Mai with only a map to guide their way. Teams departed at night having arrived at the Pit Stop earlier in the morning, despite this, all teams departed within a half hour of each other. Once at the Seven Spires temple, teams were instructed to leave their cars behind and get to the nearest airport. Once there, teams needed to fly to Hong Kong and reach the upper-most floor of the tallest tower in the city to find the next clue box. This is the second race to feature China as a destination, the first being the final two legs of the first "Amazing Race". Because the airport in Chiang Mai was closed until the morning, teams were on equal ground and eventually, the same flight to Hong Kong.

5. From which African country did teams depart in the start of Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [3]

Answer: Namibia

Having flown from South Africa to Namibia via charter flight in the beginning of Leg 4, teams departed from the Amani Lodge outside the capital city of Windhoek and flew to South Africa to catch a connecting flight to Bangkok, Thailand. Once in Bangkok, teams needed to take a variety of transportation methods to find their next clue. Beginning with a bus ride, teams had to find a SkyTrain station, then ride the monorail to the Erawan Shrine to find the Detour clue. Gary and Dave and Chris and Alex were both penalized at the Pit Stop for not following a clue regarding speed limits, but the airport equalized the teams. Although all seven teams were not on the same flight to Johannesburg, all of them flew to Bangkok on the same plane.

6. To which country did teams travel in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [2]

Answer: South Africa

In the beginning of Leg 3, teams departed from the second Pit Stop at a small jungle camp near Iguacu Falls in southern Brazil and were instructed to travel thousands of miles to South Africa. Teams quickly took a flight from the nearby airport to Sao Paulo to connect to various other flights around the world, all in order to reach Cape Town in the best possible position. Many of these teams connected to London, which resulted in about a day's worth of flight time for certain groups. When teams set down in Cape Town, they were instructed to head to Robben Island, seven miles off the shore of the mainland, and home to Nelson Mandela's prison cell. When teams arrived here, they would be able to find their next clue.

7. From which U.S. state did teams depart on their race in this installation of the show?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [1]

Answer: Nevada

Phil began the first episode in the Nevadan desert sending eleven teams on their race around the world. As Phil dropped his hand and yelled 'Go', teams rushed to their luggage to discover that they'd be flying to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once they arrived at this destination, teams needed to locate 'the big man located at Corcovado.' To get there, however, teams needed to reach the Las Vegas Airport, and take one of three pre-scheduled flights to Brazil. One of these, however, would give a distinct advantage, arriving a fair bit earlier than the other flights. Teams left their starting points with $200 for the first leg of the race. The first flight leaving Las Vegas consisted of seven teams: Tara and Wil, Blake and Paige, Hope and Norm, Cyndi and Russell, Chris and Alex, Mary and Peach, and Shola and Doyin. The final American Airlines flight contained the remaining four teams, and arrived in Rio de Janeiro approximately two hours later.

8. From what team did a member have their foot ran over by a taxi?

From Quiz "Amazing Race 2" the Players

Answer: Shola and Doyin

When a taxi dropped off Shola and Doyin at the hang gliding challenge the driver rolled over Shola's foot. He shook off the pain and began climbing for the challenge. Reaching the top of the mountain they saw there was the option of a fast forward. They decided to not do the detour and go for the fast forward. Playing on a sore foot Shola helped his team win over Gary and Dave.

9. The first season of "The Amazing Race" began in New York City, where did the second season start?

From Quiz Rocking The World, "The Amazing Race 02" Style

Answer: Nevada

The second season of "The Amazing Race" kicked off in Nevada. The first Pit Stop in the race was located on a small yacht in Rio de Janeiro. Deidre and Hillary became the first team to be eliminated.

10. Who were the winners of "Amazing Race 2"?

From Quiz "Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Chris and Alex

Chris and Alex won with Tara and Will coming in second place, in San Francisco, where the finish line was. Blake and Paige were third, and Peggy and Claire or the "Gutsy Grandmas" were eliminated in Africa after missing an important flight.

11. At the beginning of the show, who is in third place?

From Quiz 'The Amazing Race 2' Season Finale

Answer: Chris and Alex

Oswald and Danny were obviously eliminated in the previous leg. When the teams first leave, they are told to go find John Logan Campbell (a monument).

12. Which team took the final Fast Forward of this "Amazing Race"?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [6]

Answer: Tara and Wil

Arriving at the Maori Institute, teams arrived too late at the gates and were bunched up despite the ferry ordeal. Once the location opened at 7am the following morning and they experienced a short Maori tribal dance, teams received their next piece of Route Info directing them to 'The Lost World' at the Waitomo Caves nearly a hundred miles away. Instead of completing this, Tara and Wil took their camper to the Fast Forward clue at Mount Tarawera. In order to claim the clue directing them directly to the Pit Stop, they needed to descend the precarious scree rock walls of this dormant volcano to reach the clue box below. Their success made them the final team to claim the award during the course of the race.

13. Which team did not participate in the Road Block of Leg 3 in South Africa?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Peggy and Claire

Peggy and Claire, having woken up too late at the start of the leg, left the Pit Stop in Brazil in last place and were unable to get seats on an acceptable flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. Their flight path took them to New York and London before arriving in South Africa, nearly twelve hours after their departure from Rio de Janeiro. In Leg 3, team members needed to purchase a 'Smiley' and a box of Epsom salts, take them to a local healer, and then drink a concoction made with some of the ingredients. After this, teams were instructed to go to the Pit Stop at Lanzerac Manor. Members participating in this task included Gary, Mary, Oswald, Russell, Doyin, Blake, Wil, and Chris.

14. To which city did teams need to fly in Leg 9 of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [5]

Answer: Adelaide

After completing the bridge climb, all teams needed to make their way by plane from Sydney to Adelaide, Australia. Once here, racers found an additional charter flight and had to sign up for one of three departure times. After this, teams landed in the city Coober Pedy in the Australian Outback where they were told to find their next clue at the Metal Tree. Chris and Alex, who completed the Fast Forward, also made their way to Adelaide, but through an earlier, connecting flight to Melbourne. In Adelaide, teams caught charter flights at the National Jet Systems Terminal. The first flight contained Chris and Alex and Danny and Oswald, the second contained Tara and Wil and Blake and Paige, and the final charter contained Gary and Dave.

15. In Leg 2, all ten participating teams attempted which Detour task?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Freak Out

Leg 2, taking place in Rio de Janeiro and Foz do Iguacu, gave racers the choice between 'Freak Out' and 'Seek Out' for its Detour task. In 'Seek Out', teams needed to use a metal detector on the beach and search for their clue in a marked off area. Because of the nature of the task, it was more time-consuming and menial. None of the teams attempted to do it, instead deciding to complete the 'Freak Out' task. This involved teams using hang gliders to float from Pedra Bonita Mountain to Sao Conrado Beach where they would find their next clue. 'Dance' and 'Deliver' were featured as Detour tasks in the third leg of the race in South Africa.

16. In Leg 7, teams needed to find what coloured star to find their next clue?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [4]

Answer: Green and white

Teams arriving in Hong Kong had to make their way to Central Plaza, the tallest building within the city. To do this, they needed to take a train from the airport into the city, reach the building, and take elevator #29 (marked by a flag) to the top floor to find the clue. Once there, teams needed to find a green and white star using a pair of binoculars. This green and white star, which indicates a ferry terminal in the harbor, shows teams that they need to ride a ferry across the bay to their next route marker. Teams at the top of the Central Plaza could also opt to take the Fast Forward for this leg of the race in which they needed to find a woman named Amelia Chau in a marketplace near Wong Tai Sin Temple and get a palm and face reading to receive their clue. Both Gary and Dave and Mary and Peach opted to take this task, but only one walked away with the clue.

17. Which team did not complete the 'Dance' task on the Detour in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [2]

Answer: Cyndi and Russell

Following their arrival at Robben Island, teams were told to make their way to Kalk Bay Beach where they would participate in their Detour tasks. Upon arriving, the first Detour task was 'Dance', which had teams sing and dance for tips at their location. Once that team was able to accumulate 25 rand in tips for their moves, they would be able to obtain their next clue in the leg. Blake and Paige, Mary and Peach, Shola and Doyin, Oswald and Danny, Gary and Dave, and Tara and Wil completed this Detour task. The second task, located on Kalk Bay Beach, was 'Deliver', which took teams to a nearby pier to carry nearly 300 pounds of fish onto weighing scales (from a docked boat). Once this was done, teams could proceed.

18. What is the name of the tree that teams had to kiss in the first leg of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [1]

Answer: Fat Maria

Landing in Brazil, teams realized that they needed to visit the Christ statue on the top of Corcovado Mountain overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. Driving up the mountain, then running up the steep stairways, Mary and Peach were the first to find their clue at the top. This clue led told teams to make their way to Paqueta Island in order to kiss "Fat Maria"; both team members had to kiss "Maria" to claim their clue. Until they reached the area, teams were unaware of the fact that "Fat Maria" was actually a rather large tree. To reach Paqueta Island, teams needed to board a ferry to cross the nearby bay, then walk on foot to participate in the local custom of kissing "Fat Maria" for good luck. Cyndi and Russell, unknowingly taking a faster ferry, were the first to arrive, and getting directions from locals, they were quick to arrive at "Fat Maria" for their next clue, instructing them to find their reservations for Ilha Tours at the Lido Hotel. Once arriving at the hotel, teams would need to sign up for seats on boats leaving the following morning; first come, first serve.

19. What team stayed in a luxury hotel, shopped at a mall buying cologne and cappuccinos?

From Quiz "Amazing Race 2" the Players

Answer: Oswald and Danny

The luxury hotel recommended a good travel agency to Oswald and Danny. The travel agency needed an hour to book their flights, so they decided to go shopping. Knowing they were racing for a million dollars and they had limited funds, Oswald explained, "we just needed time to breathe."

20. What state did Mary and Peach come from?

From Quiz Rocking The World, "The Amazing Race 02" Style

Answer: Pennsylvania & PA

Mary's favorite actor is Robert Redford and Peach's favorite actor is Harrison Ford.

21. Who was the first team to be eliminated?

From Quiz "Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Deidre and Hillary

Peggy and Claire were almost eliminated in the first leg, but they got to the pit stop a few minutes ahead of Deidre and Hillary. I was happy that the "Gutsy Grannies" were not eliminated this time around.

22. Here's a tricky one: What was the name of the pineapple field?

From Quiz 'The Amazing Race 2' Season Finale

Answer: Pauwela

It's located in Maui.

23. How did Oswald and Danny get a Fast Forward task in Leg 4?

From Quiz "Amazing Race 2" Basics

Answer: Swimming to the middle of the pool in the hotel

They are the first team to arrive in that leg.

24. In Leg 4, team members needed to trade five animal carvings for a larger carving of what animal?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 2"

Answer: Giraffe

Taking teams outside the town of Spitzkoppe, teams needed to find a small African market, and once here team members completed the Road Block. The task required that one member be selected to barter with local shopkeepers for five small statues of Africa's 'Big Five' animals: the buffalo, the lion, the leopard, the zebra, and the elephant. When this was done, they'd need to take their carvings to another man to trade it for a large giraffe with their clue. This clue then instructed teams to head directly to the race's fourth Pit Stop, the Amani Lodge outside Windhoek. Tara, Alex, Blake, Russell, Dave, and Peach completed this task. Shola and Doyin didn't reach the Road Block due to difficulties earlier in the leg and were the fourth team eliminated while Oswald and Danny took the Fast Forward for this leg.

25. In the 'Heat Up' Detour task of Leg 9, how many holes of golf needed to be played?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [5]

Answer: Three

At the Metal Tree, teams found their Detour clue for the ninth leg of the race, a choice between 'Cool Down' and 'Heat Up'. In 'Cool Down', teams needed to find a local opal mine known as Opal Quest and dig through a specific pile of dirt for a true opal. Although it could take longer to find the opal, teams would be in the cool air of the mine rather than out in the hot sun. Oswald and Danny and Tara and Wil completed the 'Cool Down' Detour task. In 'Heat Up', teams needed to go to to the world's hottest golf course in Coober Pedy, a slew of difficult-to-navigate holes and tees. Although it's just a quick three holes of golf, teams would need to brave the heat and use a map to play. Blake and Paige and Gary and Dave attempted and succeeded in this Detour task.

26. Which team did not complete the 'Herbal Tea' Detour task of Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [4]

Answer: Oswald and Danny

Once on the other side of the bay, teams obtained the Detour clue, a choice between 'Wishing Tree' or 'Herbal Tea'. In 'Wishing Tree', teams were required to take a taxi 18 miles to a location known as the 'wishing tree'. Once there, teams simply needed to write down their wish on a roll of paper, toss it in with the tree, and receive their clue. Although the task is easy, it's far away. Oswald and Danny were the only team to complete this task. In 'Herbal Tea', teams needed to walk to a nearby tea shop in a confusing maze of shops and corridors and purchase a cup of tea. Once both members drank this foul-tasting beverage, which may be harder than expected, they would receive their clue. Tara and Wil, Chris and Alex, Blake and Paige, and Mary and Peach attempted this task. Once complete, teams would receive their next clue.

27. In the 'Confusion Later' task of Leg 5, what item made of paper did teams need to purchase and burn?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [3]

Answer: A car

'Confusion Later', the second Detour choice for this leg of the race, was completed by Blake and Paige, Oswald and Danny, and Gary and Dave. In this task, teams needed to head to Bangkok's Chinatown center. Once there, they had to purchase a car from a specific shop (realizing that it was actually made of paper) and navigate the city streets to find the Wat Leng Nei Yi Shrine. Once there, teams had to burn the car as an offering to their ancestors. Ironically, more than one team had to purchase more than one car, having burnt the offering at locations that were nowhere near the temple. Once the Detour task was completed by all teams, they were instructed to go to Wat Khao Chong Phran Temple in Ratchaburi, Thailand for further instructions.

28. How many teams completed the 'Deliver' Detour task of Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 2" [2]

Answer: Two

Only Chris and Alex and Cyndi and Russell made their way through the 'Deliver' Detour task as opposed to 'Dance', opting to do a bit of heavy lifting instead of dancing in the streets. Although more teams were initially going to attempt this task, only those two were able to complete it. Peggy and Claire did not complete any Detour tasks. Following the Detour, teams were told to make their way to the Paradise Hair Salon in Langa Township, a more impoverished locale of Cape Town. Teams needed to first take a train back to Cape Town Station, then a taxi to their next location. It is at this business that the teams came into possession of their second Road Block clues.

29. What team was penalized for driving over the speed limit?

From Quiz "Amazing Race 2" the Players

Answer: Gary and Dave

Both Gary and Dave and Chris and Alex were penalized for driving over the legal speed limit in Namibia. They were instructed to go no more than 20 miles less than the legal speed limit for added safety due to potential hazards such as wild animals.

30. Who were known as the "Gutsy Grannies"?

From Quiz Rocking The World, "The Amazing Race 02" Style

Answer: Peggy and Claire

Grandmothers Peggy and Claire were eliminated in the third leg of the race. The "Gutsy Grannies" barely survived in the first two legs.
