Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 2, teams needed to find their clue at Iguagu Falls. Which team member did not do this?

Answer: Wil

In the first Road Block task of the race, team members needed to hitch a ride in a boat at Foz do Iguacu and travel up Iguazu River to the basin of Iguacu Falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in South America. Once there, teams needed to locate a flag, dock their boat, and then run to the route marker to receive their clue, a piece of Route Info instructing them to go to the Pit Stop at a Jungle Camp.

This Road Block task was completed by Tara, Alex, Norm, Paige, Claire, Dave, Russell, Danny, and Mary. Shola and Doyin, who claimed the early Fast Forward, did not attempt the task. This task mimics an early route marker in the first season of the show.

In the very first episode, the first major site on the race was Victoria Falls in Zambia.
2. Which team did not participate in the Road Block of Leg 3 in South Africa?

Answer: Peggy and Claire

Peggy and Claire, having woken up too late at the start of the leg, left the Pit Stop in Brazil in last place and were unable to get seats on an acceptable flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. Their flight path took them to New York and London before arriving in South Africa, nearly twelve hours after their departure from Rio de Janeiro. In Leg 3, team members needed to purchase a 'Smiley' and a box of Epsom salts, take them to a local healer, and then drink a concoction made with some of the ingredients.

After this, teams were instructed to go to the Pit Stop at Lanzerac Manor. Members participating in this task included Gary, Mary, Oswald, Russell, Doyin, Blake, Wil, and Chris.
3. In Leg 4, team members needed to trade five animal carvings for a larger carving of what animal?

Answer: Giraffe

Taking teams outside the town of Spitzkoppe, teams needed to find a small African market, and once here team members completed the Road Block. The task required that one member be selected to barter with local shopkeepers for five small statues of Africa's 'Big Five' animals: the buffalo, the lion, the leopard, the zebra, and the elephant.

When this was done, they'd need to take their carvings to another man to trade it for a large giraffe with their clue. This clue then instructed teams to head directly to the race's fourth Pit Stop, the Amani Lodge outside Windhoek. Tara, Alex, Blake, Russell, Dave, and Peach completed this task. Shola and Doyin didn't reach the Road Block due to difficulties earlier in the leg and were the fourth team eliminated while Oswald and Danny took the Fast Forward for this leg.
4. In Leg 6, Road Block participants had to wash down which type of animal?

Answer: Elephant

In Leg 6, teams continued through Thailand. The Road Block took teams to Mae Ping Village in Chiang Mai where they were required to wash the decorative chalk markings off the sides of an elephant. Once these markings were taken off and approved by one of the citizens of the village, team members would receive their next clue instructing them to head to Karen Village, the sixth Pit Stop for the race. Blake, Gary, Chris, Mary, Oswald and Wil completed this Road Block task.
Teams also had the option of riding an elephant for a Detour task earlier in the Leg, but no one took the chance.
5. During Leg 8, where did teams find their Road Block clue?

Answer: Sydney Opera House

Teams departed from Hong Kong after the Detour task in Leg 8 and made their way directly to the steps of the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. Once there, team members needed to complete somewhat of a scavenger hunt before teams could move on to the eighth Pit Stop of the race. To begin, members needed to find a surfer in lairy daks, then a true blue anklebiter, a sheila in an Aussie cozzie, and a bushie. Once team members received the final clue, they were told to move on to the Pit Stop, the roof of the Museum of Contemporary Art after reuniting with their partner.

Many team members accidentally went back to their partner after finding the first scavenger hunt clue and were forced to finish the task twice to follow the rules properly.
6. In Leg 9, which team member did not throw the boomerang for the Road Block?

Answer: Wil

In Leg 9, racers headed to the outskirts of Coober Pedy, Australia to Lookout 2 in Breakaways National Park where they were confronted by a Road Block task. Essentially, the chosen team member needed to move into a large marked circle, throw a boomerang outside the ring, and have it land within the same circle.

Although the task seemed difficult for some to master, all four teams participating (who were close in standings as it was) completed it and made their way down the path to a nearby Pit Stop. Paige, Tara, Oswald, Gary completed the Road Block here, but it was too little too late for Gary and Dave who reached the ninth Pit Stop in fifth and final place resulting in an elimination.
7. How many black sheep did team members need to herd in Leg 10's Road Block in New Zealand?

Answer: Three

Making their way through New Zealand, teams had to head to the Canterbury Plains to find the Inverary Sheep Station and their Road Block task. Team members needed to jump into a sheep pen and separate twenty-two white sheep from three black ones, placing the minority into a second adjacent pen. Wil, Chris, and Oswald all completed this task while Blake and Paige took the Fast Forward for this Leg taking them directly to the tenth Pit Stop at the Inverary Sheep Station (just a few feet away from the sheep pens themselves).
8. Which player did not compete in the ATV Road Block in Leg 11?

Answer: Wil

Neither Tar nor Wil ended up completing the Road Block task in Leg 11 because of the fact that they claimed the final Fast Forward clue of the race at Mt. Tarawera and placed first in the leg. In this Road Block, teams needed to go to 4-Track Adventures and choose one member to ride an ATV through the forest to the ocean coast. Up the beach, team members would find a clue instructing them to go to the Pit Stop, the Warbirds Hangar at Ardmore Airport in Auckland, New Zealand, the final elimination Pit Stop in this "Amazing Race". Paige, Alex, and Danny were the only teams to compete, and finished in that order.
9. In which country did teams complete the snorkeling detour of Leg 12?

Answer: United States

Progressing back to the United States, teams reach the island of Maui in Hawaii whereupon they were presented with a Road Block clue at the island/dormant volcano known as Molokini. Once teams reached a buoy in its basin, they chose one member to don snorkel gear and proceed to swim around the water to find sealed cases containing their next clue. Once that team member unlatched and tore open the containers, they would be able to head to the final Pit Stop of the race, Huialoha Church on Maui. Blake, Wil, and Alex competed in this Road Block task.
10. In the final leg of the race, team members needed to break open a large globe of ice in order to receive their clue during the Road Block.

Answer: True

The final Road Block in the race took teams to Hurricane Gulch in Alaska with a bag full of equipment and a propane tank/torch. Using these, the selected member needed to break/melt/chip their way into a large globe of ice in order to retrieve their clue frozen in its center. Team members could use any of the tools provided to do this. Once Blake, Wil, and Chris finished this final task, they were required to head to their final destination city, San Francisco, California.
