Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fred Flintstone ("The Flintstones")

Answer: Alan Reed

Alan Reed was a supporting actor in over 30 movies (e.g., Pancho Villa in "Viva Zapata"), but his greatest claim to fame was the role of Fred Flintstone. The show was based on Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners" and Fred was a variation on Ralph Kramden. Reed was the voice of Fred until Reed died in 1977. Several actors tried to take his place after that.
2. Barney Rubble ("The Flintstone")

Answer: Mel Blanc

Mel Blanc, "The Man of a Thousand Voices," was mostly known for his work with Warner Brothers, voicing Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, etc. However, Hanna-Barbera hired him for the voice of Barney Rubble, Fred's neighbor and best friend. Mel died in 1989.
3. Rocket "Rocky" J. Squirrel ("Rocky and His Friends")

Answer: June Foray

June Foray was the most versatile female voice actor of her time. The character Rocky was male, but June was the perfect choice. Some of her other characters included Natasha Fatale (also on "Rocky and His Friends"), Cindy Lou Who ("How the Grinch Stole Christmas"), Granny (Tweety and Sylvester Looney Tunes cartoons), and Nell Fenwick ("Dudley Do-Right").

She died in 2017 at the age of 99.
4. George Jetson ("The Jetsons")

Answer: George O'Hanlon

George O'Hanlon was a character actor who appeared in several films and TV shows prior to "The Jetsons." He was the title character in the "Joe McDoakes" short film series in the 40s and 50s. George O. was the voice of George J. for 75 episodes before he died in 1989.
5. Shaggy Rogers ("Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!")

Answer: Casey Kasem

Casey Kasem was the iconic voice of Shaggy ("Zoinks!"), but he was even more famous for his radio countdown show, "American Top 40." He began his career as a disc jockey in the 1940s and continue both voice overs and on-screen acting for many years. He died in 2014.
6. Homer Simpson ("The Simpsons")

Answer: Dan Castellaneta

The voice behind "The Simpsons" dad ("Doh!") is that of Dan Castellaneta. He has appeared in a few on-screen roles (the "man test-drving a car" in "Forget Paris"), but he is most famous as a voice actor, especially "The Simpsons." His other characters on that show include: Grampa Simpson, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, and Mayor Quimby.
7. Yogi Bear ("The Yogi Bear Show")

Answer: Daws Butler

Daws Butler, for many years, was the most important voice actor at Hanna-Barbera. It's hard to say if Yogi was his most famous character ("I'm smarter than the av-er-age bear!"), or it was one of his many other (often very different) characters, such as Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, Wally Gator, Elroy Jetson, Peter Potamus, Baba Looey, and Augie Doggie. Daws died in 1988.
8. Stewie Griffin ("Family Guy")

Answer: Seth MacFarlane

Seth McFarland not only voices the precocious toddler Stewie Griffin, he is also the creator of "Family Guy." And on top of that, he also voices Peter Griffin and Brian Griffin. McFarland is a multi-talented singer, actor, and film director, including "Ted," "A Million Ways to Die in the West," and "Ted 2."
9. Bender ("Futurama")

Answer: John DiMaggio

Voice actor John DiMaggion voices the Tijuana-built, human-like robot Bender on "Futurama." His character is described in the show as "alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain-smoking gambler." Other characters DiMaggio has voiced include Jake the Dog on "Adventure Time," Marcus Fenix in "Gears of War," and Dr. Drakken on "Kim Possible."
10. Tennessee Tuxedo ("Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales")

Answer: Don Adams

The frequently endangered penguin, Tennessee Tuxedo, was voiced by Don Adams. Don had two other major roles in TV history: 1) he played Maxwell Smart on "Get Smart" and 2) he was the voice on Inspector Gadget on the TV show by that name. He passed away at age 82 in 2005.
11. Underdog ("Underdog")

Answer: Wally Cox

Character actor Wally Cox provided the voice of Underdog. Probably his most famous other role was as the title character in the 50s TV show, "Mister Peepers." He almost always played timid men with thick glasses and a high-pitched voice. Surprising fact: he was both a former roommate and close friend of actor Marlon Brando. He was only 48 when he died in 1973.
12. Dick Dastardly ("Wacky Races")

Answer: Paul Winchell

The bad guy among the racers participating in the "Wacky Races" was Dick Dastardly (accompanied by his dog with the odd laugh, Muttley). He was voiced by Paul Winchell, a man of many talents. He was first known as a TV ventriliquist with the characters Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smiff.

He later became a very active voice actor, including Tigger in the "Winnie the Pooh" films, Gargamel on "The Smurfs," and Fleegle on "The Banana Splits." On top of that, he was an inventor, including the first mechanical artificial heart. Paul passed away in 2005.
13. Marge Simpson ("The Simpsons")

Answer: Julie Kavner

Julie Kavner not only voices Marge on "The Simpsons," she's also the voice of Marge's sisters and mother--Jacqueline, Patty, and Selma Bouvier. Julie has acted on-screen, including the role of Rhoda's younger sister on "Rhoda." She aslo appeared in six Woody Allen-directed films betweeen 1986 and 1997.
14. Eric Cartman ("South Park")

Answer: Trey Parker

Cartman, as his "South Park" friends call him, is an obese, amoral, and bigoted bully. And he's very funny in an Archie Bunker sort of way. One of the shows two creators, Trey Parker, provides Cartman's voice. (Matt Stone is the show's other creator.) Trey voices several characters on the show, including Stan Marsh, Randy Marsh, and Mr. Garrison. You might also know Trey Parker, and Matt Stone, for their incredibly successful, Tony-winning musical, "Book of Mormon."
15. Tommy Pickles ("Rugrats")

Answer: E.G. Daily

There are several toddlers featured on "Rugrats," but Tommy Pickles is probably the most well known. He is voiced by a her, E.G. Daily, also known sometimes as Elizabeth Daily. She has had a few on-screen roles, probably most famously Dottie in "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," but her speciality is voice acting.

Her other characters include Rudy Tabootie on "ChalkZone" and voice-overs as Babe in "Babe: Pig in the City," Bamm-Bamm Rubble in the "The Flintstones" and Froggy in "The Little Rascals." On top of all that, she has released four albums as a singer.
