Question 1 of 10
1. One of the most well-known cases of a move turning Elite, the Fire starter Blaziken had access to this move for three hours before it was quickly turned Elite and replaced with Overheat. What move? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. The legendary Ho-Oh began it's lifespan as an overall unviable Fire type raider, funny enough, due to not having a Fire type fast move. In 2020, it finally received such a move- what move? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. The Fire typing received an enormous collective buff when Primal Groudon was released. Not just because the mover of continents makes for a not too shabby Fire attacker, but because of how Primal Groudon functions mechanically on a team. When even just existing on a team and not directly fighting, what can Primal Groudon do for Fire types? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Uniquely, Fire will be buffed by not one, but two different weathers. Sunny is the first, what is the second? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. In 2019, Niantic began to introduce Fast moves to the game that were anything but- slow, heavy hitting 'fast' moves. The very first of such moves was a Fire move. What move? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. On the day of Blaziken's Community Day, it received Blast Burn for a Charged move as expected. What was not as factored for, however, is a second non-Elite Charged Move Blaziken got on this day. What move did Blaziken get here? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Chandelure already had access to a solid Fire moveset, as well as a Ghost moveset, letting it pull double duty. It gained another interesting option as a result of its Community Day, though this new Elite move falls well short of Shadow Ball's effectiveness in a Ghost attacking capacity. What is Chandelure's Community Day move? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. In 2019, the mover of continents in Groudon and the ruler of the sea in Kyogre received brand new moves. Kyogre got Surf, which became readily accessible without the need of an Elite TM. Groudon did not get so lucky, as the move it received here would indeed become Elite. What move did Groudon get here? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Until Primal Groudon graced the world with its presence, Heatran spent a long time as the premiere tank/anchor of the Fire type - a role it still contests due to its superior Fire moveset to Primal Groudon. Heatran has been able to leverage its quantity of resistances to have a lengthy amount of staying power on the battlefield. How many types does Heatran resist? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Charizard famously has two Mega forms. Combat Power or, "CP" works differently in this game compared to leveling in the mainline games. Which form of Charizard has the highest maximum CP? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the most well-known cases of a move turning Elite, the Fire starter Blaziken had access to this move for three hours before it was quickly turned Elite and replaced with Overheat. What move?

Answer: Stone Edge

In PvE, Stone Edge offers no value whatsoever to Blaziken. In PvP, it can be of niche use depending on the format and league being played in. Either way, trainers are not likely to spend real world money in droves to get a Blaziken with a random Rock type move on it.
2. The legendary Ho-Oh began it's lifespan as an overall unviable Fire type raider, funny enough, due to not having a Fire type fast move. In 2020, it finally received such a move- what move?

Answer: Incinerate

Incinerate is both extremely powerful and extremely slow for a fast move, dishing out an absurd base damage of 29 per hit, while also taking a whole 3.5 seconds to use once. These two extremes blend together to make it a genuinely decent, albeit very volatile and risky, move. Sadly, both of Ho-Oh's Fire charged moves in Fire Blast and, disappointingly, Sacred Fire, are both terrible and have prevented Ho-Oh from asserting itself within the Fire meta.

Answer: Buff their damage output

Sadly, unlike the mainline games, Primal Groudon does not get Desolate Land and thus cannot protect itself or allies from Water type moves. Still, even for just existing on one's team, the entire party's Fire, Ground and Grass type moves will do more damage.

This is the case even if Primal Groudon never hits the field. A common strategy for some players seeking to overcome challenging bosses, a particularly notable example being Primal Kyogre, is to put Primal Groudon in the back, then front load with five Grass or Fire types who will appreciate getting buffed.

When those five are out, the player would typically go heal them up and try again, with Primal Groudon still occupying a space in the back for buffing duties.
4. Uniquely, Fire will be buffed by not one, but two different weathers. Sunny is the first, what is the second?

Answer: Clear

Later in the evening, of course, it cannot be sunny out. To prevent Fire, Grass and Ground types from basically being useless compared to other types during half or more of the day, Niantic introduced the Clear weather. Clear functions in the exact same way as Sunny mechanically, boosting the power of Fire, Grass and Ground moves.
5. In 2019, Niantic began to introduce Fast moves to the game that were anything but- slow, heavy hitting 'fast' moves. The very first of such moves was a Fire move. What move?

Answer: Incinerate

Incinerate has a massive 29 base power, almost as high as some Charged Moves. However, it takes a whopping 3.5 seconds to use it once, so it's all too easy to get sniped by an opposing Charged move while locked in animation. Still, it does genuinely great damage for a Fast move and, as such, is fairly viable.
6. On the day of Blaziken's Community Day, it received Blast Burn for a Charged move as expected. What was not as factored for, however, is a second non-Elite Charged Move Blaziken got on this day. What move did Blaziken get here?

Answer: Blaze Kick

Blaze Kick is a three-barred move with a lightning fast animation and quick recovery as well. Of course, it isn't the strongest of Charged Moves, but it does solid enough damage considering its other advantages to be worth using.

Answer: Poltergeist

Poltergeist is a one-barred Charge Move with a sluggish damage window, lengthy cooldown and a decent 140 Base Power. Sadly, this is very much inferior to Shadow Ball and, because the latter does not require an Elite TM and is not time sensitive, it is vastly superior to Poltergeist.

Answer: Fire Punch

Fire Punch is a slow, fairly weak three-barred Charge Move. It is really useful in PvP, but it took until 2023 - four years later - for Fire Punch to finally be useful as a STAB option for Primal Groudon. It's a least better than Fire Blast, Groudon's other option for a Fire move.

Answer: Ten

Heatran most notably quadruply resists Bug, Grass, Steel and Ice, which Fire hits super effectively, making it particularly useful against those two types. In PvP, quadruply resisting Fairy and resisting Dragon is very useful as well.
10. Charizard famously has two Mega forms. Combat Power or, "CP" works differently in this game compared to leveling in the mainline games. Which form of Charizard has the highest maximum CP?

Answer: Mega Charizard Y

Mega Charizard Y's stats slightly outclass it's X form, causing it to have a higher CP. This makes the Y form the form of choice if Fire type offense is wanted, but the X form and it's different Fire/Dragon make for an effective Dragon type attacker, a role the Fire/Flying Charizard Y can't contest.
