"Persona 4" - Tohru Adachi Trivia Quiz

Answer: Ryotaro Dojima

Dojima is, in essence, the station's chief. As such, Adachi, along with seemingly everyone else, reports directly to him. Adachi at work is frequently seen acting as a sidekick of sorts to Dojima.

The 'trigger' that the player can do this is meeting Dojima at home one night- he will tell them that if they should spot Adachi 'slacking off' to tell Adachi that Dojima sent the player to him. This was a means to essentially whip Adachi back into shape. It does indeed trigger a strong enough reaction in him to get his attention, thus allowing the social to begin.

Answer: Six

Ranks six and onward happen automatically as a result of story progression. Adachi's social finally ends on the very last day of the game. To fully max it, the player must either achieve the Accomplice or True Ending. It will not max if they get the Bad or Good endings.

Answer: Neglects them

This is revealed towards the end of the game, when the team confronts Adachi at the hospital. Here, he reveals that he 'forgot' to turn the letters into the crime lab for processing, though he truly simply deliberately neglected to do anything with them at all.

As we find out during the Accomplice Ending, Adachi did not outright destroy the letters. He reveals that doing so would practically be incriminating himself, and he will outright dare the player themselves to burn the letters during this sequence, proving that Adachi himself did not do so.

Answer: No

Adachi begins to breakdown the more and more he is pressed for information. It's to the point where it quickly becomes obvious he was at least significantly involved, if not directly. He does not confess to these crimes at the hospital, however, as he manages to flee the scene.

Answer: Lying to the team to protect Adachi

When the game presses the player to formally accuse who they think the killer is, the player will need to, of course, choose Adachi. If the player has brought Adachi's social as high as it can possibly go, the game will give the player the option to hide their suspicions from the rest of the team. Choosing to do so, and then choosing to visit Adachi on the last day of the game is needed to receive the Accomplice Ending.

The Accomplice Ending is partially the same as the Bad Ending. The main difference is a new cutscene when Narukami visits Adachi on the last day of the game. This is where Adachi will confirm that he was the killer after Narukami destroys evidence incriminating Adachi. Adachi will menacingly, haphazardly dub Narukami his 'partner' but will mostly threaten him with his life should he go back on his decision. The game will then inform the player that their 'monstrous' actions have essentially betrayed the Investigation Team and their last calendar year's worth of efforts.

After that, the rest of the game plays out the same way as the Bad Ending with one exception. Right before the Bad Ending would fade to black and show the credits, the camera will zoom in on Narukami's face, and will show him briefly wear a heinous smile before fading to black.

Answer: Magatsu Izanagi

In Japanese, the word 'Magatsu' roughly translates to 'calamity'. This makes Magatsu Izanagi the direct counterpart to Izanagi, Yu Narukami's starting Persona. This is fitting, as Adachi is the killer the team has been chasing for the entirety of the game up to this point.

Magatsu Izanagi is immune to both Light and Dark, but has no weaknesses or other resistances to speak of. In Adachi's hands, he will mainly be used to give Adachi Heat Riser, cast Evil Smile on the party, or use some -Dyne elemental of some kind.

Adachi is very simply a bloodthirsty man who committed these atrocities out of simple sport. He clearly has no remorse over his actions in the slightest, even claiming that his sole reason for becoming a detective was so he could legally carry a gun all the time.

Answer: Magatsu Izanagi

Fittingly, the reward for maxing Adachi is the right to acquire his own Persona. In the player's hands, Magatsu Izanagi doesn't have access to the -Dyne elementals Adachi was able to use, but otherwise gets all of the same skills. Magatsu Izanagi is, like when used by Adachi, immune to both Light and Dark with no weaknesses or other resistances.

This makes him out to be a very well rounded Persona who can succeed both offensively and defensively. His only downside is having horrendously low Luck, meaning the player will virtually never land a 'random critical hit' when using Magatsu Izanagi.

Answer: dumb ass

Adachi says this more in jest than seriously. At this point, it seems Adachi is finally experiencing remorse over his actions. He has realized that both him and Narukami had virtually the same beginnings to their time with Personas, yet Narukami was much more powerful and successful than Adachi because he had actual friends to support him, while Adachi had nobody. Adachi seems to realize this, but is clearly hesitant to show his true emotions courtesy of his semi-hostile opening to his letter to Narukami.
