Prompted by a video tape, Ethan drives himself to the rural area of Dulvey, Louisiana on the hunt for his missing wife, Mia, who specifically tells him to stay away. He doesn't, instead riding out into the bayou and locating a farm property owned by the Baker family.

When Ethan finds that the gated main house is locked off, he makes his way around to a guest house, eventually navigating his way around to find Mia locked up in a basement cell, completely out of sorts. She claims to have never tried to contact him-- she wouldn't have.

Something is wrong, however, and Mia starts to attack him, claiming something is inside clawing to get out. A call from a mysterious woman named Zoe will urge Ethan to get out through the attic, but the fight against his ex-wife will cause him to lose a hand. He might be able to knock her down, but he'll be knocked out himself by the owner of the property. He'll be welcomed to the family and carried off through the rain.

Answer: The basement

Ethan will awaken seated at a dinner table with three people-- the Baker family-- as he's being force-fed rotting food. His hand will be reattached, and when the moment presents, he'll be able to escape his bindings and escape the trio, crawling around under the house until he's safe enough.

A series of phone calls that Ethan can take from phones around the house will direct him to the main hall, but this will mean going head-to-head against Jack Baker in the garage, hitting him with a car several times and setting him ablaze. That won't be enough, however.

Ethan will need to advance upstairs and then down into the basement, finding a series of cavernous cellar tunnels plagued by mold-formed creatures that lead to a dissection room and morgue. It's in this final chamber that Ethan will battle Jack Baker, both of them with chainsaws, in a final stand. If Ethan can succeed, he'll get the last key item he needs to escape the house.

Answer: Insects

As soon as Ethan escapes the Main House he'll locate Zoe's trailer and receive another call from her.
Zoe will explain that she, Mia, and the Bakers are contaminated and they need a specially-made serum to clear it out of their body...as long as they're not too far gone. The problem is that Marguerite has hidden the serum in the Old House near the water.

The truth, as Ethan will discover, is that there is no serum there, but upstairs in the building he'll find a small altar containing instructions as to how to make it. Getting the ingredients will be tough, however. One piece is deeper into the contaminated second floor of the building (where he'll be watched by a child as he navigates its secret passages), and to get there he'll have to face off against Marguerite in the Greenhouse.

When Ethan gets what he needs he'll be requested back at Zoe's trailer but he'll return to find a ringing phone and the last Baker on the other end. Lucas will beckon him to take part in a 'fun, little activity', and to do that he'll have to return to the Dissection Room in the Main House.

Answer: Happy Birthday Tape

Once you've gotten the D-Series Arm it'll be time to head back to the Main House, directed there not by Zoe, but by Lucas Baker, who's captured Zoe and insisted on playing through some little activities, each with a solid amount of danger built in. The first order of business will be to head back into the Baker House and into the basement where, returning to the Dissection Room, Ethan can pull the Snake Key from the decapitated throat of the captured police officer. This will come as a big help in locating a couple of important keycards, but it'll come at the expense of encountering your first four-legged Molded foes, which will be weaker in the way of defeating them, but much faster.

Along the way, in the attic of the Baker House, Ethan will also likely find the Happy Birthday Tape which, when played in any VCR, will show him the nefarious escape room that Lucas has planned further along in the journey around the property. This will be very important as it's critical not to make the same mistakes as the cameraman or you'll be toast. Happy birthday indeed.

Answer: LOSER

Once Ethan heads into the Keycard-locked area next to Zoe's trailer he'll head through the back hallways that lead to the nearby barn, encountering Molded and planted tripwires along the way, knowing that both Mia and Zoe would be on the other end of the path.

Lucas will throw numerous 'activities' in front of Ethan including a massive, vomiting Molded foe and the anticipated escape room. Fortunately, Ethan can learn from his predecessors' mistake, using the LOSER password to skip most of the to-dos in the room. It'll allow him the chance at finding Lucas' control room where he'll have left the D-Series Head. Lucas will flee and it'll give Ethan the ability to save the girls at the pier outside.

Answer: Eyes

Ethan will emerge out onto the docks behind the barn and cross over them, replenishing ammunition and killing Molded, in anticipation of something big. He'll get the chance to free Mia and Zoe and hand off the D-Series item to make two doses of Serum, but before they can be used, he'll have one more to-do: putting an actual end to the returned Jack Baker, who survived being nearly-destroyed in the Morgue of the Baker House.

Ethan's goal is pretty simple. All he needs to do is blast out the multiple eyes all over Jack's body and face. Once this is done, he'll just need to do enough damage to stop Jack's advances. Ethan will be rescued from the room by Zoe, but Jack will make one last stand, forcing Ethan to use one of the doses of Serum to destroy the property owner at long last. It does, of course, leave a problem.

Answer: Mia

Reaching the end of the pier, Ethan will be granted a tough choice by needing to give the single remaining Serum to either Mia or Zoe. If it's given to Mia, Zoe will remain behind on the pier, angrily waiting to die, and Ethan will promise to send help. If it's given to Zoe, Mia will remain behind, resigned to her fate.

In either case, Ethan and his chosen partner will boat out into the swamp and come across a Wrecked Ship, capsizing their small craft when a giant wave of mold tips it over. No matter who you choose, the subsequent segment of the story will involve playing as Mia as she engages with flashbacks of her time on the Wrecked Ship. The new goal: search for Ethan.

Answer: Alan

After Ethan is pulled away by a Mold entity, Mia will make her way onto the Wrecked Ship and start experiencing flashbacks, all of which feature a young girl by the name of Eveline who, as is revealed, has complete control over the mold. As Mia is reminded, "[she] said we could be a family."

A video will reveal the truth about Eveline, or Test Subject E-001. Three years ago, with Mia's partner Alan dying on the ship, three years ago, Eveline escaped containment. As the rest of the crew was killed or transformed into Molded, Mia raced around looking for the girl, eventually becoming infected. Mia will send a message to Ethan telling him not to come-- a message he heeds for three years-- and the ship will be destroyed. In the present day, Mia's chat with Eveline will be reliant on whether or not she received the Serum. Either she'll fight against the girl or she'll concede to her, handing her body over to Eveline and forcing Ethan to make a hard choice about his wife.

Answer: Tissue Samples

Ethan will have a vision of Jack Baker as he's freed from the mold in the Engine Room and Jack will explain everything-- Eveline infected everyone with her gift and the Bakers were amongst those controlled when they found her out in the bayou. He'll tell Ethan to free his family once and for all. And to do that he has to destroy Eveline.

Mia will get Ethan out of the Engine Room and either die in her attempt or allow Ethan to get away without causing him harm, and in doing so Ethan will receive a vial of Eveline's Tissue Samples. He'll leave the Wrecked Ship and find himself at the entrance of an old Salt Mine as a helicopter flies overhead. A radio in the entrance to the mine will shine a light on the situation-- someone else is after Eveline and they know someone's at the mine.

Worse, as Ethan descends into its tunnels, it'll become apparent that Lucas has rigged the mine with traps. Further evidence of Ethan is found on a laptop in the tunnels; it's revealed that he's been working for whoever infected Eveline, keeping her safe and cleaning up after her while she appears to be aging rapidly. Notes in the adjacent lab will indicate that Eveline is an asset for an E-Series bioweapon, and the only thing that will stop her is an E-Necrotoxin...which he can create with the Tissue Samples given to him.

Answer: Blue Umbrella

All Ethan needs to do once he collects the E-Necrotoxin is find Eveline, and that means continuing through her waves of Molded in the Salt Mines and emerging back in the familiar Guest House that started off the adventure. Ethan will experience several hallucinations, all leading him to uncover the truth that Mia had been compelled by Eveline the whole time.

If Ethan can get up to the attic he'll find Eveline and be able to fight against her powers to jab her with the E-Necrtoxin, revealing her to be Grandma Baker the entire time. The medicine will do its work, causing her to disassemble into the mold creature she is, but it'll mean fighting back against an amorphous being with only a face. That's the weak point.

If Ethan does enough damage to Eveline's face, he'll be tossed free of the Baker house and land in the yard as the sun begins to rise. While choppers circle overhead, he'll need to keep fighting from the ground, firing at Eveline's face until she drops him. On this occasion, someone will contact Ethan through his watch, telling him to use the weapon dropped from above, a gun known as Albert, designed to fight bioweapons. A few blasts from that will put Eveline down for good.

If Ethan can overcome his foe, the Blue Umbrella choppers will land and Chris Redfield will arrive to pick him up. If he saved Mia earlier, she'll have been located in the Wrecked Ship, alive. If he saved Zoe, then he'll have to say goodbye to his past once and for all. Either way, the choppers will take off, bringing an end to a nightmare of a night.
