Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
It was in the 1980s when game consoles started to become popular in households all over the UK. In 1988, Sega introduced us to the Mega Drive game console, which was known as 'Sega Genesis' in North America. Competition was fierce, with the likes of the Nintendo Entertainment System leading the way; however, the big turning point for the company was in 1991, when Saga introduced us to the game "Sonic the Hedgehog". The game centres around Sonic the Hedgehog as he fights the crazy scientist and wicked doctor Eggman. So now we have two well-known mascots, Sonic and Mario, from Nintendo.
For a few years, Sega led the way with the Mega Drive console and the "Sonic" game. It was short-lived, as the next range of consoles, the Saturn and Dreamcast, were commercial failures. Sega ceased producing consoles in 2001 in order to transition into a publisher and developer. Sega is the creator of various video game brands that have sold millions of copies, such as "Yakuza", "Total War", and "Sonic the Hedgehog". The mascot of Sega, Sonic, is well-known throughout the world. Sega, has been one of the most active arcade game manufacturers in the world and is known for long-running franchises like "Virtua Fighter" and "Initial D Arcade Stage".
The games from the 1980s paved the way for what we have today. Maybe the old games are not up to the standard we have today, but when you play these old games, it really does take you back in time, and that's not a bad thing.
