Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Pokemon GO" in general has almost always simply taken Pokemon from mainline games, and brought them over with converted stats. However, on one occasion, Niantic actually made a brand new variant of an already existing Pokemon who is a Psychic type. Which Pokemon did Niantic create a new form of?

Answer: Mewtwo

Where we have 'regular' Mewtwo, in 2019, we also received Armored Mewtwo. Armored Mewtwo was brought to the game in celebration of the anniversary of the very first Pokemon movie. In this movie, Armored Mewtwo actually does appear, but it never made its way into any Pokemon game until this one.

Compared to its 'regular' form, Armored Mewtwo has far, far less Attack but much, much more Defense to make up for it. It also has almost entirely different moves. Sadly, this makes it far less viable in raids.
2. Ever since Mewtwo was brought to the game, Alakazam has always been great, but directly outclassed by it. However, when Mega Evolving, Alakazam can take the lead in this arms race if given an Elite Charged TM. Which move of the following is Legacy on Alakazam?

Answer: Psychic

While Mewtwo freely has access to Psychic, and gets its own move in Psystrike that's even more powerful, Mega Alakazam can use Psychic and superior Attack to beat Mewtwo out in raw DPS. Mewtwo is still tankier, but Mega Alakazam's absurd power can truly be put on display with an Elite Charged TM.
3. It may not have any real potential in PvE, but Hypno's diverse moveset littered with coverage options gives it potential in PvP. How many coverage moves does Hypno learn?

Answer: Five

Hypno can learn Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, Ice Punch, Fire Punch and Thunder Punch. Any of these moves have potential to cause some damage, which will keep opponents guessing as to what Hypno might be packing. The ability to use this tomfoolery on a Pokemon with decent stats makes Hypno a worthwhile Great League threat.
4. Hypno may learn a lot of colorful moves, but the iconic Mew has an arsenal that could only be described as rainbow-esque by comparison. Which of the following is a move Mew can learn?

Answer: Overheat

To type every move Mew could learn here in the information section would take almost as long as making an entire quiz about these moves. Obviously, Mew has the potential to be seriously unpredictable, to the point where there is very little in the game opponents can use to even fathom what the opposing Mew might have. Tyranitar thinks it has the Dark-weak Mew cornered until it gets dropped by a Focus Blast or even hit hard by Surf or Grass Knot. Registeel might seem to have a favorable matchup until it takes an Overheat to the face. Even top tier threats such as Medicham or Azumarill in Great League or Giratina in Ultra League aren't safe from the Narnia-sized movepool of Mew's tricks.
5. All four Deoxys forms have movesets that are relatively diverse. They all have Psycho Boost, their signature move, in common. What is the only other move these four forms have in common?

Answer: Zen Headbutt

Zen Headbutt, unfortunately, is the worst Psychic type fast move in the game. It's unusable garbage in PvP and only slightly less depressing in PvE. It generates very little energy and only does below average damage in both settings.
6. Necrozma's two fused forms, DuskMane and DawnWings, were the stars of the annual "Pokemon Go Fest" in 2024. They both share the same Psychic fast and charged moves in common. What moves?

Answer: Psycho Cut + Future Sight

Psycho Cut is a speedy move which generates good amounts of energy, but does very little damage. Future Sight is a one-barred move with a base 120 power. In conjunction, this is a very average set. Its viability is improved somewhat by the two forms' decent 277 for Attack.
7. Azelf, Uxie and Mesprit became the very first legendary Pokemon to be available outside of just raiding them or doing research. They migrate to a new territory in the real world every day. What determines the part of the world they spend each day in?

Answer: It's random

These three change location every day. They can zoom all across the world each day, as the particular area they appear in every day is completely random. Personally, in my small humble hometown, I have seen a wild Mesprit one time in the six years it has been available in the wild for, and that one time was back in 2020. Clearly, this means it would be best to catch one if they appear in your town!
8. Latios and Latias have Luster Purge and Mist Ball, respectively, as Legacy moves. They also can just learn Psychic naturally. Are Luster Purge and Mist Ball better options than Psychic?

Answer: No

Luster Purge has ten points more of base power than Psychic, but in return for having one less bar. Mist Ball is the same, only featuring five more base points of damage than Luster Purge. This makes Psychic deliver more DPS and significantly more energy efficiency, causing it to outclass these Legacy options entirely.
9. Psycho Boost may be a terrible move in raids, but it's at least far more potent in PvP. Here, it can function as a nuke that will take out anything non-resistant that it hits. It is not lacking in drawbacks, however: what happens to the user when using Psycho Boost in PvP?

Answer: -2 to Attack

Unlike other moves with drawbacks, Psycho Boost is actually quite easy to reach in only costing 40 energy. In return, it deals a massive amount of damage. Care must be exercised in using it, however, as the opponent could bring in a Pokemon who can farm energy off the weakened Deoxys after firing off a Psycho Boost. Keeping two teammates readily able to switch in to prevent this would be ideal.
10. At its release, the legendary Xerneas was in a pretty pitiful state as far as Fast moves go. One option was the horrendous Tackle. Its other option was a non-STAB Psychic move. What move?

Answer: Zen Headbutt

Zen Headbutt is already an awful move to begin with, and Xerneas doesn't even get STAB on it. Yet, it's the best it can do for readily available moves. Mercifully, Niantic later gave it Geomancy as a Fairy type fast move, which was all Xerneas needed to become the truly great Fairy attacker it was always meant to be. Sadly, this move still requires an Elite TM, essentially gatekeeping any viability Xerneas could hope to have behind this extremely limited acquisition item.
