This actually surprised me. The contest is as old as I am! But according to the company's website, 2007 is the 21st year that this contest has happened.

If you order a small coffee in the US, you will get the equivalent of a Canadian medium, therefore in America, the "Roll up the Rim" contest applies to small, medium and large cups.

The contest was originally intended to boost coffee sales, but was expanded to cover all hot beverages. This makes sense, because all the hot beverages come in the same kind of cup. So if it was a hot chocolate that you originally bought, you would get the same cup as if you would've ordered coffee. This is why "Roll up the Rim" does not apply to Iced Capps - they don't come in the usual cardboard cup.
Similarly a "win a donut" winner can be substituted for a muffin or a cookie.

I would've thought this was false, because obviously you need to buy a beverage to win, right? Nope. You can write to Tim Hortons headquarters in New Brunswick, or Maine in the US, and they will send you a contest cup, free of charge. But frankly, that seems more trouble than it's worth. Why not just go to your local Timmy's and spend a dollar or two on a coffee? Most people do every day anyways!

Alright, I guess Hawaii and Alaska make sense - they're often excluded from such contests. But I have no idea why Florida isn't included, and neither is Vermont. Kentucky is one of the 10 states that shares the 11,000+ cases of "Roll up the Rim" cups distributed in the US.

These were all prizes in the 2006 contest, but the Toyota RAV4 SUV was the top prize. This little controversy occurred in Saint-Jerome, Quebec, at an elementary school. The Tim Hortons company originally said they would not intervene, but it became more of a disaster when a man so far unrelated to the dispute stepped forward and claimed it was his cup that he had thrown out and wanted a DNA test to prove it. Eventually, the corporation decided to award the car to the family of the girl who found the cup.
