1. At the beginning of the book, Caine was doing a poor job of taking care of Perdido Beach. Who came down from the lake to take over for him and forced him to go search for Gaia with Sam?

After the barrier became transparent at the end of the previous book, many children throughout the FAYZ set-up a small camp where the highway met the barrier. They all wanted to see their parents. But, because they refused to leave the area, they were slowly starving. Caine was in charge of Perdido Beach, but no one would listen to what he said, and he didn't try to help. Edilio and Sam came down from the lake and formed a truce with Caine. Edilio took over the care of the town while Sam and Caine went out to find and kill Gaia. Caine also wanted to rescue Diana.

Answer: It was turning completely black.

Normally the barrier was gray at the bottom and seemed to turn transparent as it went up. Many people began to notice a black stain that was spreading up from the ground. By the end of the novel, the entire dome is black, obscuring all light.

Astrid is nicknamed 'Astrid the Genius' because she is so clever. She is also taking university courses in some subjects. Later on, when she meets Lana, she is referred to as "Pretty-girl Barbie", when they are trapped inside a burning shack with talking coyotes outside. Lana earns Astrid's respect when she heals Sam, who was dying from a wound.

Jennifer H was the first character to die of the new strand of flu. Many people died of it throughout the book. Edilio quarantined the town to prevent people from getting it.

People called her the Siren. Jill was attacked by the Human Crew at the beginning of the book. Sam found her in a hole in the plaza and took her to the day care. Nerezza came later and took her to Orsay.

Orsay, a twelve-year-old, was living at the national park with her father when the FAYZ happened. Her dad was a ranger at the park. She worked for Caine for awhile spying on Sam.

Quinn, who was extremely upset about the sentencing, saved Cigar from Penny and brought him to Lana. Lana tried to regrow his eyes, but they came back very small, and he could see strange things.

Caine pretends to love this name, to get Orc and Howard on his side. Even though it was only pretence, it becomes commonly used as no other name arises.

Hunter was the boy who hunted for the town. His brain was damaged in an earlier book, and he did not understand what was happening to him. Sam ended up killing him as the bugs ate their way out of his body. Roscoe was the second person that it happened to.

Brittney died in "Hunger" during the battle at the power plant. Towards the beginning of the book Sam and Edilio find out that something had dug its way up out of Brittney's grave. Later, Taylor told Sam that Brittney was at Howard and Orc's house and Sam sent her to live with Brianna. Brittney believed she was an angel and was looking for the demon. Drake also came back to life. Drake and Brittney shared the same body.

While walking along the barrier, Gaia and Diana came across two men on the outside. They were taking pictures and trying to climb the wall. Gaia reached out with her mind and hit Little Pete. This caused the barrier to weaken enough for the man climbing the wall to fall into the FAYZ. He thought it was cool until Gaia ripped up off his arm and began to eat it.

Without his broken body, Little Pete could think more clearly. Taylor's power was teleporting. When Little Pete tried to take her over, she bounced and ended up partly in a tree. After bouncing again, her hand was missing, and she was cut in half by a car. Later, Sanjit and Virtue found her and took her to Lana. But, Lana could not heal her. They noticed that she had a tongue like a lizard.

As it says in the book 'Mary had suffered from bulimia from 10'. She also takes Prozac, and is too embarrassed to admit her eating disorder when asked. Later on in the series, Mary develops anorexia and nearly dies, but keeps her bulimic tendencies.

He also threw some cheese into the group of kids and told them that it was last food they'd have until they got back to work.

They were going to the lake to find water. Toto was a freak that could tell when someone was telling the truth or lying. He frequently interrupted conversations saying things like "It's true" or "He believes it." He was slightly delusional and would talk to a fake Spiderman that wasn't there.

The children on the island were all adopted by a famous actor and actress. Their names were Sanjit, Virtue, Peace, Bowie, and Pixie. Sanjit managed to fly the helicopter from the island to Perdido Beach. Caine, Diana, Penny, and Bug made it to the island, but Sanjit tied them up.
