Without his broken body, Little Pete could think more clearly. Taylor's power was teleporting. When Little Pete tried to take her over, she bounced and ended up partly in a tree. After bouncing again, her hand was missing, and she was cut in half by a car. Later, Sanjit and Virtue found her and took her to Lana. But, Lana could not heal her.

Diana, meanwhile, had noticed that her baby was growing much faster than it should have been. Drake hated Diana, along with Astrid and Brianna. The Gaiaphage needed the baby so that it could be reborn.

Howard was on his way down to Coates Academy to check on his moonshine still. Unfortunately, he met Drake and his pack of coyotes on the way there. Mohamed, a boy working for Albert to relay messages from the lake, witnessed the killing, but could not do anything to save him.

He ran back to the lake to warn Sam that Drake was coming. Orc became very upset when he heard that Howard was dead and thought that no one even cared that he was dead.

Penny hated Caine, but also had a crush on him. She was mad that he liked Diana and not her. She gave him a drink with sleeping pills in it. Then, she put his hands in a bowl of concrete and stapled a paper crown to his head. After he woke up, she paraded him through town.

When everyone was gathered near town hall, Quinn and Lana came and got everyone under control. Quinn became the temporary leader and forced Penny to leave. Eventually, some kids were able to pick the concrete off Caine's hands and Lana healed them.

While Brittney was out instead of Drake, she walked to the boat Diana was on under water. Drake made Diana go with him by threatening to drown Justin. Diana agreed to go with him, but Justin was forced to come too.

Edilio was in a relationship with a boy named Roger, who took care of Justin. Sam was upset that Edilio did not tell him sooner. Edilio said he was still figuring it out himself and was not sure what people would think of him.

When the three reached Drake, he used his whip to attack Jack. Jack ended up with a cut throat, but he didn't die. While Dekka and Orc tended to him, Drake got away with Diana and Justin. Orc carried Jack back to the lake and Roger started to stitch him up. Dekka continued after Drake.

Astrid wanted to make a deal with Caine about the darkness and Sam's light. Cigar had been walking around in a daze being able to see and communicate with an invisible Little Pete. When Astrid found out that Little Pete was still alive in some form, she asked if he could fix everything, but he replied that he couldn't. Astrid and Cigar continued on their way to Perdido Beach. But, after finding themselves in a zeke field, the mutants ate Cigar. Astrid was then by herself until Sam found her crying.

Lana, who was dating Sanjit, sent him to deliver a note to Sam at the lake. On his way there, he joined a group of refugees leaving in search of light from Sammy suns at the lake. As the group drew nearer to the lake, coyotes attacked and killed many of the kids. Sam then had to put some out of their misery after the coyotes left.

Brianna couldn't run at super speed in the dark because she could trip and kill herself. She was forced to walk to the mineshaft. Although she made it before Drake and company went underground, Penny, who had joined forces with Drake, disabled her. Once Penny was out of range, down in the tunnel, Brianna was able to resume her chase.

Justin had been abandoned before a hole in the mineshaft. Brianna caught up to the group after Diana went into labor. She shot Brittney and Penny. Brianna then helped Diana to deliver her baby girl. After she was born the Gaiaphage tricked Brianna into setting the baby on top of it. The baby became possessed by the Gaiaphage.

The parents all met at the barrier only to find out that it was too late; the timer had already started to count down, and they did not have time to get away safely.

While Drake, Diana, Gaia, and Penny were on their way to leave the FAYZ, Sam and Caine caught up. Gaia and Penny attacked them and Sam was burning them both. Caine ended up smashing a boulder onto Penny once he had the chance.

When the nuclear bomb went off, the barrier became transparent. No one inside or outside was harmed. Once it was clear, all the adults outside could see the fight going on between Sam and Gaia, who appeared to be just a baby. They were also horrified by Penny's body.

When Sam stopped attacking, Drake, Diana, and Gaia ran away. With the light back, Brianna quickly ran and joined Sam. Astrid, Dekka, and Quinn also came. More parents, along with media, joined the crowd outside and started to videotape and find people inside.
