Wii Mixture Trivia Questions

1. Which company makes the Wii?

From Quiz
Wii Wii Wii all the Way Home

Answer: Nintendo

Sony makes the Playstation. Microsoft makes the Xbox. Atari is now mainly a game developer.

2. Nintendo's flagship first-party titles saw new installments on the Wii. Which 'Legend of Zelda' game was a launch title for the Wii, and was also released on its predecessor, the GameCube?

From Quiz Degrees of Wii

Answer: Twilight Princess

'The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess' was originally slated for a GameCube release, but the developers chose to delay its release to coincide with the arrival of Nintendo's then-newest home console, the Wii. 'Twilight Princess' marked the first 'Zelda' game for the Wii, and the last for the GameCube. Upon its release, it was lauded by critics and gamers alike as on par with the series' undisputed greatest title, 'Ocarina of Time'. The game follows the same basic 'Zelda' formula of having the protagonist, Link, rescue Princess Zelda from the evil clutches of Ganondorf, whilst conquering many unique dungeons, acquiring useful new items, and generally laying waste to some of Hyrule's most fearful creatures. 2011 saw the release of the next 'Zelda' console game, 'Skyward Sword'.

3. What game console was the Wii console originally going to resemble?

From Quiz What Have Wii Here?

Answer: Nintendo DS

Nintendo originally made the Wii to look like the "Nintendo DS" system but there were afraid that if the "Nintendo DS" flopped they would have to go back to the drawing board so they changed it to what it now looks like. The system was revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2005 and was released in 2006.

4. When was the Wii first released?

From Quiz Wii Play Wii!: Wii Basics and "Wii Sports"

Answer: 2006

The console before this was the Gamecube, and the handheld before this was the Nintendo DS. The Wii uses a sensor bar to make the Wii Remote have a pointer like a computer mouse, but wireless.

5. 'Mario Kart Wii' - Which track doesn't have an area to do tricks on?

From Quiz Wii Will Rock You!

Answer: N64 DK's Jungle Parkway

SNES Ghost Valley 2 has two trick areas, the shortcut that originally needed a feather and the zipper and jumper at the end. The bridge on DS Delfino Square is a ramp when the bridge is up. GCN Peach Beach has the ramp on the other side of the first set of boxes you come to and to the left when the tack splits into two paths.

6. Which game, originally on the Sega Saturn in 1998, was released for Wii by Atlus in North America a decade later?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 7

Answer: Baroque

Developed by Sting Entertainment and published by Atlus, "Baroque" was released in April 2008 on the Wii in North America despite having had many versions of the game released to Sega and Sony consoles for a decade before. A notable point about this RPG is the fact that in order to advance your character, every death adds to the experience as every battle and action. Much like "Fire Emblem", released on Wii the previous year, the game follows a turn-based RPG battle system on a grid. The game was notable for being unnecessarily difficult (but then, Atlus does have a hardcore fanbase) and as a result received mixed to low scores upon North American release on the Wii. A "Baroque" manga series tied to the game was released as well. Sting Entertainment also created the DS game "Knights in the Nightmare" in 2009 and "Dokapon Kingdom" for the Wii.

7. One of the launch titles for the WiiWare library was from which popular gaming series?

From Quiz You, Me, and WiiWare

Answer: Final Fantasy

"Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King" is the title in question released on May 12, 2008. Although "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles" first appeared on the Gamecube (and later, the DS) as a co-op RPG, "My Life as a King" is a city-building simulator with a "Final Fantasy" theme. Despite the slight departure from the style of game normally found in the series, it fared comparatively well in regards to the launch titles for this system. Many considered it to be the leading title for the WiiWare system before additional games were added to the roster. The game was developed by Square Enix who, outside "Final Fantasy", hadn't created a console game for a Nintendo console (other than the Wii) since the Super Nintendo was still on the market.

8. Developed by Akira, which game was known as "Forever Blue" in Japan?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 6

Answer: Endless Ocean

"Endless Ocean" was unique as a release due to the fact that it was a Wii-exclusive scuba diving simulation. The player is able to navigate expanses of underwater locales in search of new marine and aquatic life and sunken goodies. Notably, the game was published by Nintendo as a first-party product. Due to the popularity of the game, a sequel was announced a year after. Although a player can simply scuba dive around an area, they can also search for treasure, explore sunken ships and reefs, and catch fish for their own personal aquarium. Critical reaction to the game was mixed. While many praised the game's concept, visual appeal and soundtrack, others found the game too casual for most gamers. The game was released in January 2008.

9. Mario teamed up with which other character to visit the Olympic Games in 2007?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 5

Answer: Sonic

A Nintendo exclusive, "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games" was released in November 2007 to moderate critical approval. Capitalizing off both franchises before the 2007 holiday season and releasing the game in conjunction with the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics (well...nine months before), the game took off selling over three million units in its first year. Surprisingly, both Mario and Sonic were involved in their own stand-alone titles within the same year- both of which sold numerous copies. In "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games", players use specific characters/abilities to complete different track and field events (and more). A combination sports/party game, "Mario and Sonic" was focused on numerous players in sporting events as well as individual games such as archery, hurdles, table tennis, and more. "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games" was also released on the DS handheld.

10. Made by Konami, which Wii game involved a race known as the Eau?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 4

Answer: Dewy's Adventure

Although Konami's first foray into the Wii system was with the 2006 title, "Elebits" which received moderate success as an early title on the system. "Wing Island", on the other hand, did not receive such good reception, but once again, it was released before "Dewy's Adventure", which was seen on shelves in September 2007. In the game, players controlled Dewy, a water droplet that can change its state of matter, surroundings, and weather conditions using the Wii remote. Depending on the direction the remote is tilted, Dewy will move in a certain direction. The game also allows for numerous instances involving player customization "Dewy's Adventure" received moderate reviews, but its unique system of controls wasn't enough to make it popular.

11. The first game I visited was "Snowboard Supercross (SSX) Blur". What was the game in this series created in 2005 for Gamecube?

From Quiz Trapped Inside a Wii

Answer: On Tour

"On Tour" was created for the Gamecube, PS2, and PSP in 2005. Ubertrick and Slalom are things you do in "Blur", and Snow Master was made up.

12. What Wii channel allows you to participate in polls?

From Quiz Wii Want a Quiz

Answer: Everybody Votes Channel

The Everybody Votes Channel is free of charge to Nintendo users. The channel also tracks how many times you have voted, and if you predict the most popular answer!

13. Which Al Pacino movie was immortalized in a Wii game in June 2007?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 3

Answer: Scarface

"Scarface: The World is Yours" was regarded as a popular game, though it was initially released on the previous generation of systems (PS2, Xbox, and PC). Despite this, however, the game received mixed reviews, some really high, some low. Regardless, the game added to the quickly growing cache of Mature-rated games for the system, which (in terms of the Gamecube) had been regarded as a lost cause. Due to Nintendo's image as a company aimed at a more youthful audience, "Scarface" helped spur the release of more 'M' games such as "Manhunt 2", "Resident Evil", and "No More Heroes"; all of which have become very popular, and which have scored high in terms of their reviews. This hasn't been the only "Scarface" game released though. "Scarface: Money. Power. Respect." was released on the PSP less than a year earlier. It was a low-scoring turn-based simulator.

14. In this relatively different game, players simulate various tasks related to cooking and culinary arts. Its subtitle is "Cook Off", but what series is it from?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 2

Answer: Cooking Mama

"Cooking Mama: Cook Off" was released March 20, 2007 in North America. Following the success and awards garnered by the first title in this unique series (simply known as "Cooking Mama"), Nintendo brought the title to the Wii, allowing players to implement the Wii Remote's wireless technology in creating various dishes from around the world. Although less recipes are featured in "Cook Off", the combinations of ingredients and the tasks performed make up for the lost ground. As well, players are able to make recipes for various characters from around the world and win different decorations for their kitchens as a result. Due to the popularity of both games, "Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends" was released on the Nintendo DS.

15. Which company makes the Wii?

From Quiz The Wii - A System for Everyone

Answer: Nintendo

The Wii is a revolutionary system that has sold out in nearly all stores after its release. The Wii is so popular, because anyone can play it, not just hardcore gamers. Its easy control makes the game easy, basic, and fun for anyone who has never played a video game before.

16. One of the earliest fishing games for the Wii, which game was released by Activision in Late 2006?

From Quiz We Want Wii!

Answer: Rapala Tournament Fishing

One of the downfalls of this seemingly fun, interactive game is the fact that it was released quite early following the game's launch. Because of this, the game was quite difficult to handle, and many times, claimed low scores from major gaming outlets. Despite this, it was monumental in the fact that it was the first fishing game for the system, and it actually allowed players to cast a line and attempt to catch fish. It was released to North America in November 2006, just following the launch date by a mere nine days. It wasn't released to other regions until March, the following year. The game was proceeded by other fishing games such as "Fishing Master" and the mini-game in the popular "Wii Play" collection- both of which were better received.

17. In "WarioWare: Smooth Moves" what is the Wii Remote called?

From Quiz Random Wii Games

Answer: Form Baton

Wario discovers this in the Temple of Form. A little alien creature leads him there when it steals his food.

18. How many Miis can you have as your favorites?

From Quiz Wii

Answer: 10

Do a add them as a favorite, edit them then go to the page with their name and there will be a favoite option. The other way is in the plaza just click them and then click the bubble.

19. This game wasn't necessarily seen on shelves, but every owner of the system possessed a copy of it. Excluding those in Japanese systems, which game was initially launched with the system?

From Quiz Wii Launch Titles

Answer: Wii Sports

"Wii Sports" was one of the most popular launch games, probably because players automatically obtained a copy when they purchased the system. The game allowed players to use their customizable Miis to play in one of five sports. These included Boxing, Tennis, Golf, Bowling, and Baseball. Players could earn points in order to gain a 'Pro' status or simply use a training simulator. All scores were logged to Mii characters, but players could also use a guest Mii.

20. Link and Zelda got a new game; so did Mario and Luigi. In which 2007 Wii title did Mario reach for the stars, quite literally?

From Quiz Degrees of Wii

Answer: Super Mario Galaxy

After the success of the first two 3D adventure games, 'Super Mario 64' and 'Super Mario Sunshine', all eyes were on Nintendo to see what was in store for the Italian plumber on the Wii. In true Nintendo style, fans were not disappointed, and 'Super Mario Galaxy' was an instant universal success. Awards and accolades poured in from all over the world, and the game shot up to the top of many 'Best Game' lists giving 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' a run for its money. As always, Mario sets out to save Princess Peach and roundly trounce her kidnapper Bowser, collecting stars along the way, but this time, Mario takes to outer space and explores strange new planets and galaxies as he travels across the universe to the tune of orchestrated music, a welcome addition which added so much depth and grandeur to an already amazing game. Such was the success of 'Super Mario Galaxy' that it spawned a sequel, a first for the series in the sense that it was the first time that a second 'Mario' adventure game was released on the same console. 'Super Mario Galaxy 2' was released in 2010 to equal critical acclaim.

21. What was the original codename of the Wii system?

From Quiz What Have Wii Here?

Answer: Revolution

The console was codenamed Revolution until just before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2006 when it was given the name Wii. The Nintendo company says the name is Wii, not Nintendo Wii, making it the first Nintendo game system released outside of Japan to not have Nintendo before the console name since the SNES system. It was given the name Wii with the two Is resembling two people playing together. It also sounds like 'we' so as to say that the system is for everyone.

22. How many Miis can you register as voters in the Everybody Votes Channel?

From Quiz Wii Play Wii! Part 2: Advanced Wii

Answer: Six

The Everybody Votes Channel is where you vote with many other Miis and days later, you get the result. You can predict the popular vote and even suggest a question to Nintendo.

23. Virtual Console games lets you play games from old consoles for Nintendo. Which console could you play its games on?

From Quiz Wii Play Wii!: Wii Basics and "Wii Sports"

Answer: NES

You can play games from all consoles for Nintendo except the Gamecube, since you could already play some of its games on the Wii. Sadly, you can't play handheld games and you have to get Wii Shop Points to get the games available.

24. Which game for the Wii, whose title literally translates to 'great god', was released in April 2008?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 7

Answer: Okami

Critically renowned for its approach to action-adventure games, "Okami" originally sold on Sony's Playstation 2 as an exclusive, but because of the Wii's motion sensitive capabilities, certain features strongly lent themselves to better gameplay. The Celestial Brush, used by changing to a canvas in the game and directing the Wii Remote to paint a shape or image on the screen (to complete a task or defeat an enemy) is one of the game's many perks, separating it from many others. The game was lauded with positive reviews and due to its popularity as a standalone game, it was released on the Wii in August 2008. Porting developers, Ready at Dawn, also created "God of War: Chains of Olympus" and "Daxter", both exclusive for the PSP. The original developers, Clover Studios, created the "Viewtiful Joe" series before becoming defunct. They later merged to create Platinum Games, known for the Wii exclusive "MadWorld" and the PS3 title "Bayonetta".

25. Released by Frontier Developments on the WiiWare launch date, what game controls the power of wind and air with the Wii Remote?

From Quiz You, Me, and WiiWare

Answer: Lostwinds & Lost Winds

Although the game was released by Square Enix in Japan six months later, "LostWinds" first appeared on the WiiWare library as a product of Frontier Developments, previously known for the PC games "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3" and "Thrillville". Using the wind powers of an elemental named Enril, the player controls gusts of air using the Wii Remote's motion sensitivity in order to move characters and objects across the screen to complete objectives. Released on May 12, 2008, the game received one of the best debut scores for WiiWare due to its uniqueness of style and puzzles as well as its friendly atmosphere. It can be compared to PSN's "Flower", which was released about a year later on Playstation's online network.

26. In what game created by Suda51 does the protagonist make use of a 'beam katana'?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 6

Answer: No More Heroes

"No More Heroes" is another eclectic brainchild of Goichi Suda (Suda51) and his team at Grasshopper Manufacture, also known for their work on the obscure Gamecube title "Killer7" and the PS2/DS game "Flower, Sun, and Rain". "No More Heroes" was their first venture onto the Wii and it comes as no surprise that their over-the-top gameplay elements and unnecessary violence (an odd contrast to most Nintendo games) appealed to gamers looking for something different in a hack-and-slash genre. The player is Travis Touchdown, an otaku struggling to make it as the best assassin in Santa Destroy. Luckily, all he needs to do is defeat the ten assassins better than him on a handy-dandy rankings chart. Once all of these are defeated, he can take the top spot. Of course, it's not that easy. Travis needs money for better weapons and clothes...and to do that he needs to do menial jobs (eg. mowing lawns, filling up gas at the pumps, or low-ranking assassinations). The game fared well critically due to its obscure nature and the overall gameplay. The unique style also contributed to this idea.

27. Nintendo followed up the Gamecube's "Super Mario Sunshine" with what 2007 Mario title set in space?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 5

Answer: Super Mario Galaxy

"Super Mario Galaxy" was possibly the highest-anticipated game for the Wii during the 2007 holiday season, and coming out a week before the system's first anniversary, it solidified peoples' hope for solid games on the system. The game was critically acclaimed, winning Game of the Year 2007 from many outlets (such as IGN, Nintendo Power, and Gamespot). Bowser has Peach yet again, but this time, he takes her into outer space and crystallizes the Toads of Mushroom Kingdom. With the help of the cosmic Rosalina, Mario will use his space powers and the uniquely coincidental space technologies to save her. Help is gained from mysterious star creatures known as Lumas and Star Bits can be collected by the player (using the Wii remote) for additional assistance. Two players can also play at once, but not as two different players. Because Mario is placed into space, the game plays with the ideas of gravity, allowing Mario to use techniques never before seen in a Mario game.

28. Which "Resident Evil" title was remade for the Wii and released in 2007?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 3

Answer: Resident Evil 4

The original "Resident Evil 4" was a hit. First appearing on the Gamecube, this game was cited as 'Game of the Year' by numerous gaming websites and magazines, and due to its popularity, became a Player's Choice title for the system. Despite the fact the game was initially going to be exclusive for the Gamecube, it was later ported to the PS2 and PC. In 2007, the game was brought to the Wii. "Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition", was named by IGN as the Best Wii Shooter to date after its release in June despite the fact that it was a remake. As well, rather than control the unique third-person shooter with a controller, it had become (partially) a point-and-shoot light-gun game with the Wii remote, further enhancing interactivity. Despite this, players can still use the classic controller to play although the Wii Zapper peripheral wasn't introduced until "Umbrella Chronicles" was released later in 2007.

29. When starting a game of bowling, if you hold down on the D-Pad, the color of your bowling ball will change to what color?

From Quiz "Wii Sports" and "Wii Play"

Answer: Green

To change the color of your bowling ball, you can the D-Pad up for blue, (although it is the default bowling ball color) left for a pink/red ball, down for a green ball, and right for a gold ball. Purple is not available for a bowling ball color.

30. In the game "Kororinpa", what object do players control?

From Quiz We Want Wii! 2

Answer: Marbles

"Kororinpa: Marble Mania" was released in March 2007, and while it wasn't a very popular game, it had its charms. The players controlled marbles which were movable when a Wii Remote tilted the playing field. In order to progress through the game, levels had to be completed in stages, and had to be unlocked in somewhat chronological order. In each level, players could unlock new marbles to use, each with their own pros and cons. For example, a gas tank marble could be fast, but it won't bounce very high when you flick the Wii Remote. Marbles vary between animals (cats, penguins, etc.) to fruits (watermelons) to inanimate objects and real marbles. There are forty-five individual levels, but the number doubles when you unlock all of them, and unlock Mirror Mode.
