Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mario teamed up with which other character to visit the Olympic Games in 2007?

Answer: Sonic

A Nintendo exclusive, "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games" was released in November 2007 to moderate critical approval. Capitalizing off both franchises before the 2007 holiday season and releasing the game in conjunction with the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics (well...nine months before), the game took off selling over three million units in its first year. Surprisingly, both Mario and Sonic were involved in their own stand-alone titles within the same year- both of which sold numerous copies.
In "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games", players use specific characters/abilities to complete different track and field events (and more). A combination sports/party game, "Mario and Sonic" was focused on numerous players in sporting events as well as individual games such as archery, hurdles, table tennis, and more.
"Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games" was also released on the DS handheld.
2. Nintendo followed up the Gamecube's "Super Mario Sunshine" with what 2007 Mario title set in space?

Answer: Super Mario Galaxy

"Super Mario Galaxy" was possibly the highest-anticipated game for the Wii during the 2007 holiday season, and coming out a week before the system's first anniversary, it solidified peoples' hope for solid games on the system. The game was critically acclaimed, winning Game of the Year 2007 from many outlets (such as IGN, Nintendo Power, and Gamespot).
Bowser has Peach yet again, but this time, he takes her into outer space and crystallizes the Toads of Mushroom Kingdom. With the help of the cosmic Rosalina, Mario will use his space powers and the uniquely coincidental space technologies to save her. Help is gained from mysterious star creatures known as Lumas and Star Bits can be collected by the player (using the Wii remote) for additional assistance. Two players can also play at once, but not as two different players.
Because Mario is placed into space, the game plays with the ideas of gravity, allowing Mario to use techniques never before seen in a Mario game.
3. Which "Resident Evil" title was a light gun/rail shooter?

Answer: Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

Unlike most other "Resident Evil" titles where the player would be using an over-the-shoulder third-person view, "Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles" makes use of a first-person perspective. Using either the Wii Remote and Nunchuck or the Wii Zapper add-on, the game follows many different titles in the "Resident Evil" timeline.

The rail-shooting aspect of the game is the unique, new addition though. Rather than navigate in a free-range environment, the game takes the player(s) on a predetermined track around the different levels. The game was released in November 2007 to quite favorable reviews and in its first year, it sold one million copies. Praise was given for the simplistic feel of the rail shooter game as well as the optional co-op.

Unfortunately, "Resident Evil 4's" storyline was not included although it had been released many years prior.
4. A sequel to one of the Wii's launch titles, which Wii game was released in November 2007?

Answer: Rayman Raving Rabbids 2

Capitalizing off one of the Wii's more popular launch games, "Raving Rabbids 2" brought back Rayman and the quirky, yet ubiquitous Rabbids for a second helping of mini-game fun. Like the original, the game is not a platformer like previous "Rayman" titles, but instead has a party-theme much like "Mario Party", comprising itself of minigames and short, timed puzzles for more than one person to play. Unlike the original "Raving Rabbids" game, the sequel takes the characters through various countries and continents of the world, each helping create themes for their respective games. While the game was not as well-received as the original, it did have its success, causing Ubisoft to create "Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party" the following year. Utilizing the "Wii Fit" Balance Board, the game was quite popular.
5. Which "Need For Speed" title was the second to appear on the Wii?

Answer: Prostreet

Released in November 2007, "Prostreet" continued the annual tradition of "Need for Speed" console games, improving upon the previously-released "Need for Speed: Carbon", which hit shelves as a launch title. Created by EA Games, the game had moderately-fair reception in comparison with the following title in the series, "Undercover", which was comparatively easier in nature. "Prostreet's" protagonist is a mysterious individual who never actually shows his face and never actually talks. Basically, the aim is to (illegally) drive around predetermined tracks in order to win the races (unlike other games in the series where races took place in more dangerous public areas).
6. Which game was originally bundled with the Wii Zapper in North America?

Answer: Link's Crossbow Training

"Link's Crossbow Training" sold over three million copies in its first year, having been sold alongside every North American Wii Zapper peripheral. Although the game does not necessarily have an effect on the "Legend of Zelda" canon, it nevertheless uses elements present in the series. Making use of Link's (never-before-seen) crossbow, the player hitches the Wii Remote and Nunchuck into the device and simply points and shoots with the Wii's motion-sensitive crosshair. The game was praised for being an excellent exemplar as to how to use the new device, however it's extremely short.

Although the game's two hour-ish runtime may not be the longest game out there, it does feature quite a few stages (target shooting, defending, and 'ranger' levels) that can be perfected if the player's aim is good enough.
7. Made by Namco-Bandai, which fighting/adventure game was exclusive to the Wii?

Answer: Soulcalibur Legends

Released to the public in November 2007, "Soulcalibur Legends" was the follow-up to the third "Soulcalibur" title released on the Gamecube, Playstation 2, and Xbox two years earlier. Although the series' 'fourth' title was only slated for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 (featuring Yoda and Darth Vader as exclusive characters), Wii was handed "Legends", an action-adventure-fighter title.
Following a story mode, players can either play solo or in a group to complete the game. It contains numerous elements found in the original series as it's set between two previous titles. This was Namco-Bandai's second title on the Wii (the first being "Namco Museum Remix" a month earlier). They also released the "Tales of Symphonia" sequel, "Dawn of the New World".
"Soulcalibur Legends", while selling quite a few copies, received a share of both average and bad reviews. "Soulcalibur 4", on the other hand, was regarded as one of the best Fighting games of 2008.
8. "New Blood" was the subtitle for the second game in which Wii series?

Answer: Trauma Center

While "Trauma Center: Second Opinion" was released as a North American Wii launch title by Atlus in 2006, work was already underway for the sequel, "New Blood", released exactly a year after. Both titles are surgery-sim games which follow a seemingly-paranormal storyline.

The odd quirk about these games is the fact that you'll make use of the Wii remote to stitch, cut, cauterize, bandage, and use tools that would normally be used in the ER or a surgery room. While the original received quite favourable reviews, the sequel wasn't necessarily as popular with critics (though it still fared quite nicely). Two other titles in the series, "Under the Knife 1 and 2", make use of the DS' touchscreen for the same reason, bringing this completely new concept to the video gaming world.
9. Which Tecmo title (the second in its series for the Wii) is known as "PangYa 2nd Shot!" in Japan?

Answer: Super Swing Golf: Season 2

Released in December 2007, "Super Swing Golf: Season 2" was a relatively faithful iteration of the "Super Swing Golf"/"PangYa" franchise (which was initially introduced to North America less than a year earlier). The game is fairly intense, using many different mechanics to make the game both good to look at, technically accurate, and fun to play. Oddly though, the game received mixed reviews despite having improvements over the original title.
Tecmo is also known for having released the "Dead or Alive" series, "Monster Rancher", "Fatal Frame", and "Ninja Gaiden". Of all of these franchises, the first to have a Wii release was "Fatal Frame", which had its fourth title released in Japan in 2008 (with quite good reviews).
Those looking for a variation in future golf games would have to wait until July 2008 for "We Love Golf!" to be released. This game was quite successful as well.
10. What was the subtitle of the "Nights" game released on Wii in December 2007?

Answer: Journey of Dreams

The sequel to possibly one of the greatest Sega Saturn games to be released, "Nights into Dreams...", "Nights: Journey of Dreams" takes the protagonist of the original game, (also named Nights) through Nightopia. Using the Wii's motion-sensitive controls, Nights is able to achieve flight and fight through various dream sequences and worlds in order to defeat the Nightmaren.

While the game was relatively popular from a critical standpoint, the game failed to sell many copies due to it being released (in North America) during Christmas week, and just barely making the Christmas rush. Though the game was visually pleasing and the story and atmosphere were quite well-done, the only criticism came from somewhat difficult controls in flight. The game was created by Sega (also known for "Sonic"). Earlier in 2007, they had released "Sonic and the Secret Rings", though it didn't fare too well in comparison to the nostalgic "Nights".
