1. When can you first open Drake's diary during "Drake's Deception"?

Answer: When playing as young Drake in Colombia

The first instance in which you can open Drake's new diary in "Drake's Deception" is in Chapter Two set in Cartagena, Colombia. When Nathan steps into the museum he'll have the opportunity to open the journal and later draw the all important ring and cipher into the pages. At this point, nine pages will be filled ranging from an image of the Golden Hind to clippings from the museum program involving the Sir Francis Drake exhibit. In addition there will be a fully-sketched map of Drake's route to Borneo (a trip already visited in "Drake's Fortune"). Most importantly is the phrase 'Greatness from Small Beginnings', Drake's motto.

This third game in the series begins in London, England. Drake and Sully both head to a city pub to speak to Mr. Talbot, attempting to trade Sir Francis Drake's ring (strung around Drake's neck) for a large sum of cash. When the money is determined to be counterfeit, a brawl breaks out and Nathan and Sully try to escape out into an alleyway. Unfortunately, they end up coming face to face with Cutter and Katherine Marlowe, a woman from Sully's past. Marlowe takes the ring and Cutter shoots both Nathan and Sully in the chest as Katherine and her thugs drive off.

The first page is particularly interesting since it sums up Nathan Drake as a person and a character. In the first game, "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", he and Sully headed to Central and South America to hunt down the treasures of El Dorado-- the page also features a Spanish coin from said journey. The photo on the page (with the quote) was taken in Costa Rica in 2001, many years before this trip. The page on the left also bears the names Harry Flynn and Eddy Raja, the latter of whom was killed in Peru during "Drake's Fortune". A later section of the diary features 'The Faces of Victor Sullivan', each ranging from Delight to Anger, all drawn with new features (by Drake, presumably). Not much seems to change for Sully.

Following the coordinates etched into a ring left behind by notable explorer Sir Francis Drake one day *after* he died, Drake was able to bring to the surface the coffin of his former ancestor off the coast of Panama. Opening it up he found nothing but a lockbox and, inside, Drake's diary. This is is where the game began. With the diary would come the hope of locating the lost treasures of El Dorado somewhere in the jungles of South America.

Nate and Sully are seen entering a London establishment, looking rather dapper in their suits, and heading upstairs to a private room. Inside, Talbot awaits with a briefcase full of money. Nate hands over his ancestor's ring in exchange for the cash, but Sully examines it and finds it to be counterfeit. A brawl then ensues, as players are introduced to Nate's new melee attacks. The duo punch their way through the bar (via the men's lavatory) and out to an alleyway where they come face to face with Katherine Marlowe and Charlie Cutter. Cutter shoots both Nate and Sully (to Marlowe's mild disapproval), while she takes Nate's ring. The scene ends as Marlowe's car drives off through the rain into the night.

A page illustrating the cipher from the Cartagena Museum can be found amongst the early drawings in Drake's journal, but he won't finish the page until twenty years later, deep underneath London, England in a Tudor-built sanctuary. When he places Drake's ring into the cipher it can be used, along with the ring's inscription, to get a secret code-- LONGHIDDEN-- which is actually an anagram for GOLDEN HIND, Sir Francis' galleon. This, coupled with T.E. Lawrence's journal, leads Drake to believe that perhaps Drake did hide away for six months on his trip to Borneo.

The page features many women we haven't seen in the two games (which only spanned a couple of adventures but it does include several names, where the women were met, when they were met, their phone numbers, and even some emails. Some are as far apart as Pasadena, Jakarta, Istanbul, and Montreal (of course). Many of the names also include pressed flowers. Elena's is the only one with a picture and her flower is the brightest of the bunch-- perhaps a sign? Chloe Frazer is also found amongst the names.

To locate the spot where the Lost Fleet could be found, Drake, Flynn, and Chloe were required to infiltrate a Turkish museum to locate an oil lamp allegedly brought back from Kubla Khan which could hold the whereabouts of the Lost Fleet. Heading up through the sewers, Drake and Flynn make their way through the museum before finally infiltrating the main tower containing the oil lamp. When they smash it open and light the resins inside, they're able to read a small map and note leading them to the Lost Fleet in Borneo. The fleet allegedly reached the treasures of Shambhala and Shangri-La. When they start to depart, Flynn turns the tables on Drake and gets him caught by the Turkish guards; he spends three months in a Turkish prison before Sully and, surprisingly, Chloe, breaks him out. Now's their chance to head to Borneo, stop Flynn and the real enemy, Zoran Lazarević, without their knowing.

While searching the former ruins of El Dorado (after following the map in Drake's diary), Nathan and Sully come across several caverns containing large, unmovable braziers. The only option, of course, is to light them. To do so, however, they need a light. Sully proves his resourcefulness when he uses the matches he brought for his cigars to light the torches. These actions subsequently open the path for the duo, allowing them to get one step closer to the treasures within...if they're there that is.

Nathan and Sully make their way to the Peruvian jungle where, quite promptly, they follow their coordinates and uncover ruins and the like. Searching the ruins they find the spot where El Dorado used to be; Drake concludes that it must've been a golden idol dragged away by the Spanish four hundred years prior. When the duo heads out the back of the ruins they discover who may be the true culprits: the Germans. A U-boat sits in a shallow river and when Nathan goes inside he finds Spanish gold in the pockets of some corpses. He also manages to find the possible missing page of Drake's journal-- the coordinates to the actual whereabouts of El Dorado (UT2642), an island in the jungle. When Nathan heads outside he finds Sully being held at gunpoint by a man collecting his debt-- Gabriel Roman. Gabriel shoots Sully but an explosion allows Nathan to escape (and find Elena, who followed behind). The two make their escape back through the ruins and take a plane over the jungle to their destination...only to be shot out of the sky.

In this intriguing section of the game, a young Nate enters a museum in Cartagena, Colombia, and finds Sir Francis Drake's ring in a glass case, as well as a young Victor Sullivan who is also admiring the explorer's trinkets. Sully surreptitiously places a key in the case's lock and removes it, promptly leaving the museum. Nate tails him to a nearby keymaker who creates a duplicate of the case key for Sully. Nate pickpockets him and returns to the museum in the evening to retrieve the ring. He is caught, however, by Marlowe and her cronies, but Nate escapes and an action-packed race across the rooftops of Cartagena follows. Eventually, Nate is cornered and about to be shot when Sully kills the man looming over Nate. The duo go to a cafe and Sully offers to take Nate under his wing.

The Strange Relic is an interesting artifact from the "Jak and Daxter" series, also produced by Naughty Dog. The symbols on the strange egg-shaped chunk of gold, when translated, read "Naughty Dog, Madman". In "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" the relic can be found in Chapter 5, 'Urban Warfare' and in "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" it can be found in Chapter 5, 'The Fortress'.

Drake starts off hanging from a wrecked train car off the side of a cliff in Chapter 1: A Rock and a Hard Place. The first half of the game then tells the story of how Drake got in that position until Chapter 15: Train Wrecked, which replays the climb up and off the train, with some different camera angles. Chronologically, the story begins with Drake drinking a beer at a beach side bar when he is approached by Flynn. The first game, "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" starts with Drake and Elena on a boat being attacked by pirates.

The second map is a cycling tour of France, and with the other clues found amongst the things underground in London, it leads Drake and Sully to a chateau waiting in Eastern France. The symbol found on the chateau matches with a symbol found in the Rub' al Khali desert, and by visiting both, they can get themselves closer to the treasure hidden by Drake and his fleet. Luckily, since Drake has the cipher and the ring, he's one step ahead of Marlowe. Unfortunately, when he and Sully arrive in France they're partly intercepted by Talbott's men looking for the same rewards.

As it turns out, Cutter is working with Nate and Sully; he shot them with blanks and they used squibs to mimic real wounds. Nate has the real ring hidden away. They rendezvous with Chloe and find the underground entrance to Marlowe's Tudor-inspired bunker, filled to the brim with artifacts and trinkets. When she can't open the cipher using Drake's forged ring, she heads out, giving the trio an opportunity to explore a bit. Drake ultimately discovers a connection using the cipher's code (the word LONGHIDDEN, an anagram for Golden Hind, Drake's ship), T.E. Lawrence's journal, and a map hidden behind a mounted deer head, and draws his conclusion to the Atlantis of the Sands in the Rub' al Khali Desert. While Chloe and Cutter are sent to Syria to wait for further instructions, Drake and Sully head to a chateau in Eastern France, following the journal to their next clue to amazing riches.

Accompanying the photo is a quote from Marco Polo found within a note: "So that it should not fall into the wrong hands, I concealed my great sorrow in the unlikeliest place...the light of the great Khan shelters the fate of the Thirteen." The journal also features Mongolian Phags Pa Script and images of the blue resin found within the oil lamp (and the ruins in Borneo). On a subsequent page is Marco Polo's alleged route from Venice to Istanbul to Trebizono to Hormuz to Ceylon to Borneo, up to Burma to Tibet and back to Hormuz. According to another quote, Marco Polo, on his deathbed (in 1324), he said "I did not tell half of what I saw for I knew I would not be believed."

Answer: Borneo

Heading to Borneo to hunt down the fabled Cintomani Stone and put a wedge into Flynn and Lazarević's plans, Drake and Sully (with double agent Chloe), seek out the ships run aground during a hurricane as part of Polo's Lost Fleet. Upon searching through Lazarević's hut, they discover that the Cintomani Stone can not be there-- they must be looking for a way into Shambhala. They head to higher ground looking for the possible shelter used by the fleet and, eventually, they find it in the basement of a ruined temple. Here, using more resin, they discover that the fleet may have killed each other. Amongst the bones they find a box containing a phurba, a ritual object shaped like a dagger (but which is actually a key). They also find a map containing a field of temples with golden, gilded spires, and one of them conceals the secret path that will lead them to Shambhala. Chloe diverts the enemies and plans to meet Drake in Nepal, the location housing this next step; Drake and Sully plunge off a cliff to escape.

Answer: A grotto in the floor

The second of two puzzles this early in the game, the signs are fairly straight-forward. Numbered one through four in the diary, all Drake needs to do is push on the stones beneath them in the right order, jumping from sign to sign, to complete the objective and open a hole in the floor. The hole, when Drake takes the ladder down, will lead to a watery grotto and will take him to a spot where he can let Sully through the other side. After this there are no more Drake puzzles until you reach the monastery.

Drake navigates his way through the jungle and finds his downed plane (fighting bad guys en route). He retrieves his map and finds Elena's parachute nearby so he treks to the nearby fortress to find her. The fortress is, undoubtedly, filled with enemies so Drake has to shoot his way through. What he finds inside is a picture etched by Sir Francis Drake and, when he emerges out of the ruins, he finds Drake's Tower. From the top he uses a spyglass to see where he needs to go next, but he also spots Elena standing in plain sight with two guards planning to shoot her. Drake can stop them, but not without a cost. He'll get shot off the balcony and end up in a prison cell. It turns out that pirate leader Eddy Raja is responsible-- he tries to force Drake to help him find the treasure of El Dorado before he kills him, but Elena is able to break him out of the cell, much to Raja's surprise. They flee in a rusted-out Jeep.

At first, when Cutter shoots Nate and Sully in the London alleyway, it appears he is in league with Marlowe. However, after the brief interlude during which young Drake is playable, it is revealed that Cutter is actually a good guy and had only splattered Nate and Sully with a blood-like substance when he supposedly shot them, creating the illusion that he had killed them. The trio then make their way to a van driven by none other than Chloe Frazer, and the group begins tracking Marlowe's car.

In Chapter 10, if you successfully hit three enemies with fish, you will be awarded this trophy. Standing on the crocodile will net you the "Ride the Crocodile" trophy, playing in the swimming pool will get you the "Marco Solo" trophy, and countering all of a Brute's attacks will give you the "Brute Beater" trophy.

The "Lost Fleet" is based somewhat on reality. Polo's two-year voyage home was treacherous, and only 18 of the 600 passengers survived. Polo's quote at the beginning of the game, "I did not tell half of what I saw, for I knew I would not be believed..." is a real quote from the explorer.

The game implies that Gabriel Roman is the main villain throughout the adventure. However, near the end of the game, Navarro urges Roman to open El Dorado. Inside the treasure is a corpse. A mysterious dust escapes the body, and Roman inhales it. This causes Roman to mutate into a zombie-like creature, and Navarro shoots him. It turns out Navarro had planned on selling the treasure all along.

The T.E. Lawrence pages are found in the underground chamber in London and, to Drake's surprise, they contain a lot more useful info about the Atlantis of the Sands than one would initially think, particularly because they were suspiciously mailed from Dorset, England on the day of his fatal motorcycle accident, May 13, 1935. Lawrence, being as into archaeology as he was, allegedly found all the clues needed to find the site of the treasure in the Rub' al Khali Desert. Now it's up to Drake to piece them together, locate the hidden spot, and reap the rewards of his ancestor's secret.

When Drake and Sully head to Eastern Europe they end up searching through what seems to be France's only jungle to find a ruined chateau, the home of the secrets they must uncover. Of course, such a search wouldn't be a search without Talbot's men arriving. After fighting through the mob, they'll find one man who seems long-dead resting outside an alchemist's lab. This lab turns out to have belonged to Queen Elizabeth's adviser, John Dee, the same man who made Drake's map. They find a secret tunnel hidden under his table and delve deeper underground. They find half an artifact leading to an ancient city, but it's taken by Talbot, one step behind them. Fortunately, their escape is aided (and then hindered) by some rogue spiders. Although Drake and Sully are able to escape the tunnels, things go from bad to worse when Talbot sets the chateau on fire and burns it to the ground. The heroes narrowly escape.
