Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The game begins in a back-street bar in which city?

Answer: London, England

Nate and Sully are seen entering a London establishment, looking rather dapper in their suits, and heading upstairs to a private room. Inside, Talbot awaits with a briefcase full of money. Nate hands over his ancestor's ring in exchange for the cash, but Sully examines it and finds it to be counterfeit.

A brawl then ensues, as players are introduced to Nate's new melee attacks. The duo punch their way through the bar (via the men's lavatory) and out to an alleyway where they come face to face with Katherine Marlowe and Charlie Cutter. Cutter shoots both Nate and Sully (to Marlowe's mild disapproval), while she takes Nate's ring.

The scene ends as Marlowe's car drives off through the rain into the night.
2. In which Colombian city is a much younger version of Nate playable?

Answer: Cartagena

In this intriguing section of the game, a young Nate enters a museum in Cartagena, Colombia, and finds Sir Francis Drake's ring in a glass case, as well as a young Victor Sullivan who is also admiring the explorer's trinkets. Sully surreptitiously places a key in the case's lock and removes it, promptly leaving the museum. Nate tails him to a nearby keymaker who creates a duplicate of the case key for Sully. Nate pickpockets him and returns to the museum in the evening to retrieve the ring. He is caught, however, by Marlowe and her cronies, but Nate escapes and an action-packed race across the rooftops of Cartagena follows. Eventually, Nate is cornered and about to be shot when Sully kills the man looming over Nate.

The duo go to a cafe and Sully offers to take Nate under his wing.
3. For most of the game, Nate, Sully, and Chloe Frazer are joined by which newcomer to the series?

Answer: Charlie Cutter

At first, when Cutter shoots Nate and Sully in the London alleyway, it appears he is in league with Marlowe. However, after the brief interlude during which young Drake is playable, it is revealed that Cutter is actually a good guy and had only splattered Nate and Sully with a blood-like substance when he supposedly shot them, creating the illusion that he had killed them.

The trio then make their way to a van driven by none other than Chloe Frazer, and the group begins tracking Marlowe's car.
4. Nate and Sully find themselves investigating the ruins of a château in France. What ultimately happens to the château?

Answer: It is burnt down

While Cutter and Chloe are off in Syria, Nate and Sully find themselves in a forest in eastern France in search of an old château which houses a subterranean Crusader crypt. As they navigate through the underground caves, they are ambushed by a veritable swarm of spiders who chase the duo out of the crypt, only to find Marlowe and Talbot's men investigating the château themselves.

As Nate and Sully fight their way through, they spot one man dousing the dilapidated estate with gas, and subsequently igniting it.

The building begins to burn and fall apart, and both Nate and Sully have to fight off guards and brutes in their attempt to escape, as the château begins to disintegrate around them. They narrowly escape and head off to Syria to meet up with Cutter and Chloe.
5. While investigating the citadel in Syria, what phrase helps Nate and company locate several landmarks?

Answer: 'As above, so below'

As the quartet make their way through the citadel, they find themselves heading to higher ground to find clues that will lead them to their next destination. Using the north star, Polaris, the team find a marking on the ground directly beneath the celestial body, which in turn leads them to another marking further away, where a concealed entrance is hidden.

However, Talbot is there, and he injects Cutter with a substance that causes him to think that Nate is the enemy. After finding the entrance to the crypt, the delusional, claustrophobic Cutter reluctantly accompanies the team into the depths of the citadel, only to engage in a fistfight with Nate when it all gets too much for him. Luckily, the effects of the injection wear off and Cutter returns to normal.

When the team re-emerge from underground, they are met by Marlowe and Talbot, who ignite the tower upon which they are standing before leaving, and the quartet are forced to jump off to safety. Cutter, however, breaks his leg during the fall, and the rest of the group must defend him from Marlowe's guards as they get to safety.
6. Where do Nate and Sully meet up with Elena Fisher?

Answer: Yemen

Elena allows Nate and Sully entry into Yemen by giving them fake journalist passes. They wander through the streets and markets of the town and discover, by chance, the entrance to the tomb that holds the secret location of the Atlantis of the Sands.

However, there are more spiders lurking in the darkness and they make their way out, only to be ambushed by more of Talbot's men. Drake is then shot with the same substance that Cutter had been injected with earlier, and begins to hallucinate. Stumbling through the town, Drake's vision distorts as he fights his mind for control of his body.

In his vulnerable state, Marlowe and Talbot take him off where they restrain him and take his possessions.
7. What phrase is inscribed on Sir Francis Drake's ring?

Answer: Sic parvis magna (greatness from small beginnings)

'Sic parvis magna' was Sir Francis Drake's motto, and also applies beautifully to Nate. Each started out small - Francis was the apprentice to a barque master in the mid 16th century, and Nate was an orphan, after his mother died and his father gave him up to an orphanage.

The two then went on to great things - Francis was a Vice-Admiral in the English naval fleet during the Anglo-Spanish war, and circumnavigated the world, while Nate uncovered the mysteries of his ancestor and discovered the secrets that Francis himself had hidden away from the world.
8. In which desert is Iram of the Pillars hidden?

Answer: Rub' al Khali

Nate and Elena infiltrate the Yemeni airport in the hopes of boarding the cargo plane which will drop supplies over the Rub' al Khali desert. The plane begins to take off and Nate desperately sprints after it trying to catch up. When it seems like he won't make it, Elena comes screeching in driving a Jeep, and Nate latches on.

The car accelerates and Nate only just manages to jump and grab on to the landing gear before it is retracted and the plane takes off. Inside, Nate crawls through ducts, but is spotted and attacked by a brute who is guarding the cargo.

A fistfight between the two ensues, and in the commotion, Nate opens the door and the cargo flies out. The plane gets out of control and begins to explode, as Nate is sucked out of the plane and goes into freefall. Luckily, he is able to grab hold of a descending crate and activates its parachute, allowing him to drop to the ground safely.

The plane, meanwhile, crashes into the desert sands and kills all the crew aboard.
9. Who rescues Nate from the gunfight in the desert ghost town?

Answer: Salim

Nate stumbles through the Rub' al Khali, parched and tired, for several days, until he reaches a ghost town where he finds a small puddle of water. However, he finds it to be undrinkable, and he stumbles through the city, desperately searching for more. Nate rounds a corner and into an area filled with Talbot's men, who open fire on Nate. Miraculously regaining his energy, Nate fights back and makes his way through the ruined town, where he is assaulted by snipers and rocket launchers.

When he is just about helpless and cornered, a group of local rebels burst into the area on horseback and take down several guards. One, who later introduces himself to Nate as Salim, escorts Nate out of the firefight and across the desert to safety.
10. What ultimately happens to Katherine Marlowe?

Answer: She drowns in sand

In the legendary city, Nate and Sully find a fountain of water, and Nate takes a drink. He begins to hallucinate, and sees Talbot shoot Sully. Fighting through waves of guards who seem to be in possession of supernatural powers, Nate returns to his senses, only to find Sully is still alive, and that his apparent death was only a product of Nate's delusions.

The pair discover that Marlowe was in search of the city's water supply the whole time, which could be used as a powerful hallucinogenic to render anyone vulnerable. Nate sabotages her attempts to recover an ancient urn from the depths of a lake, and in the ensuing chaos, the city begins to fall apart and sink into the sands. Nate and Sully start to escape, with Marlowe and Talbot in close pursuit, when Marlowe stumbles and falls into a pit of sand where she quickly begins to sink. Nate, despite disliking Marlowe, attempts to help her out, but he is unable to. Marlowe sinks into the sand, with Francis Drake's ring still in her possession. Talbot, meanwhile, assaults Nate and a fistfight breaks out on a crumbling platform. Nate manages to overcome Talbot and shoots him, before he and Sully desperately avoid become part of the desert themselves.

The game ends with Nate reuniting with Elena, and although he has lost Francis Drake's ring, he now wears a wedding ring, as does Elena.
