Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the game, Nathan Drake opens the coffin of his supposed ancestor, Sir Francis Drake, to find which of the following?

Answer: Lodge diary

The beginning of the game finds Nathan Drake aboard a hired boat searching for the coffin of Sir Francis Drake off the coast of Panama while reporter Elena Fisher films the event. They do find it and crack it open but the body is not inside-- instead they find a lockbox containing Drake's lodge diary-- he faked his death. When a group of pirates comes in for an attack, the two are forced to dive overboard and Victor ('Sully') Sullivan, Drake's partner, has to fly in to help.
When Drake and Sully read the book they discover that Sir Francis was chronicling his journey through South America to locate El Dorado. The last page of the book, however, was torn out.
The two, opting to search for the treasure of El Dorado, leave Elena behind on the dock, the safest place for her, and head into the jungles of Peru.
2. When Nathan and Sully make their way through the ruins that once contained El Dorado, what do they find on the other side?

Answer: A German U-boat

Nathan and Sully make their way to the Peruvian jungle where, quite promptly, they follow their coordinates and uncover ruins and the like. Searching the ruins they find the spot where El Dorado used to be; Drake concludes that it must've been a golden idol dragged away by the Spanish four hundred years prior.

When the duo heads out the back of the ruins they discover who may be the true culprits: the Germans. A U-boat sits in a shallow river and when Nathan goes inside he finds Spanish gold in the pockets of some corpses.

He also manages to find the possible missing page of Drake's journal-- the coordinates to the actual whereabouts of El Dorado (UT2642), an island in the jungle. When Nathan heads outside he finds Sully being held at gunpoint by a man collecting his debt-- Gabriel Roman. Gabriel shoots Sully but an explosion allows Nathan to escape (and find Elena, who followed behind).

The two make their escape back through the ruins and take a plane over the jungle to their destination...only to be shot out of the sky.
3. What is the name of the leader of the pirates?

Answer: Eddy

Drake navigates his way through the jungle and finds his downed plane (fighting bad guys en route). He retrieves his map and finds Elena's parachute nearby so he treks to the nearby fortress to find her. The fortress is, undoubtedly, filled with enemies so Drake has to shoot his way through. What he finds inside is a picture etched by Sir Francis Drake and, when he emerges out of the ruins, he finds Drake's Tower. From the top he uses a spyglass to see where he needs to go next, but he also spots Elena standing in plain sight with two guards planning to shoot her. Drake can stop them, but not without a cost. He'll get shot off the balcony and end up in a prison cell.

It turns out that pirate leader Eddy Raja is responsible-- he tries to force Drake to help him find the treasure of El Dorado before he kills him, but Elena is able to break him out of the cell, much to Raja's surprise. They flee in a rusted-out Jeep.
4. After escaping a prison cell and finding themselves in the flooded ruins of an ancient city, Nathan and Elena navigate via which means?

Answer: Jet-ski

Although Elena and Drake are able to stave off the pirates using heavy artillery and their Jeep, they find themselves perched over the edge of a cliff at the end of the chase. Eddy offers them their lives for the map, but Drake sends the vehicle plunging into the canyon, down into the water.

He and Elena swim to the ruins of a drowned city nearby to evade gunfire. After navigating the ruins via jet-ski (and Elena on the back with more explosive shots), the two head into the ruinous complex, finally reaching an old customs house.

Here, amongst the ship manifests, Nathan discovers that the treasures of El Dorado, including the gold statue, passed through at some point. Despite this, the goal, as Nathan says, is to continue to their escape boat docked outside.

The tough part is getting there.
5. The closer Nathan and Elena get to the monastery, the more enemy forces will use which of the following weapon enhancements?

Answer: Laser sights

Nathan and Elena will eventually make it to the boat docked outside the Customs Hall, but not before Elena shows Nathan some footage she captured of Sully working with the enemy, loading into a helicopter (despite having been shot and supposedly killed). During this uncertain moment, the boat is driven away, leaving them with no option but to head northward in the same direction as the helicopter-- towards the monastery on the map. Elena loses her video camera along the way, but it's a small price to pay for her life; Nathan saves her from plummeting through a broken bridge. The trek continues upriver where the two hop onto a jet-ski to fight both the current and the pirates.

When they dock they'll journey into a grim, spooky forest, evidently booby-trapped using parts of Drake's plane.

They'll soon come across Gabriel Roman's men and their laser sights before entering the monastery and, eventually, the library. Here, Nathan and Elena will find that Sully is indeed alive-- he's being held captive by Gabriel Roman and his archaeologist, Navarro. Sully hands over Drake's diary (and Drake realizes it stopped the bullet). Fortunately it also comes in handy for some puzzles and, apparently, the treasure is in the monastery.
6. What image from Drake's diary marks the location of the treasure?

Answer: Heart

Descending deeper into the monastery, through some ancient libraries and a mausoleum, Nathan, Elena, and Sully find a secret passageway underneath. Drake decides to go ahead, telling his companions to stay behind in safety while he searches the church and rest of the structure for Drake's clues. On the way he hears Eddy and Roman discussing their plans to work together to share the gold; Eddy, meanwhile, fears a curse. Drake eventually finds what he's looking for-- a stained glass window bearing a heart-- and he heads inside to find the treasure room waiting across a graveyard.

Unfortunately, Gabriel's thugs have stumbled upon the same spot. When Nathan finally gets inside the mausoleum and meets with Sully and Elena, they're able to find access to a hidden passageway, but not before getting separated from Sully.
7. Why does Nathan need to turn on the generators in the German bunker?

Answer: To use the elevators

Heading underground, deeper beneath the mausoleum, Nathan and Elena will find an expansive underground complex dotted with signs. If Nathan follows those marked II, V, and VII, he'll eventually get through...but not before Eddy Raja and his pirates bust in to make things difficult. When the two find the supposed treasure room, they're shocked to find Sir Francis Drake's body as well; he never found the treasure-- he just died on the way. Nathan leaves his ring behind. That's when Eddy comes along with some unwelcome visitors-- subterranean monsters.

After a shoot-out, Eddy is killed by Nathan and Elena escape, barricading themselves into what appears to be a German bunker. Here, after navigating the area and turning on the generators, they'll be able to use the elevator and get out while they still can.
8. What created the monsters beneath the bunker?

Answer: The gold of El Dorado

After heading through the destroyed passages of the German bunker, Nathan will end up reaching the generator, turning the crank and dropping the two circuit breakers to restore power. The whole route, however, is plagued by subterranean creatures. Passing through a mess hall, he discovers that the monsters were created by the gold of El Dorado, go figure, which contains an ancient evil. Sir Francis tried to protect people from the curse by hiding it away, but some have located it and died in the quest. When Drake resurfaces, Elena has been captured by Gabriel and Navarro who, after shootouts, force Nathan to escape the bunker and head up into the jungle.

He and Sully reunite to prevent getting pinned outside the church, the final location, before they search beneath the altar for the treasure.

They find it, but not before their foes.
9. Against whom do you fight the final boss battle of the game?

Answer: Navarro

When everyone comes across the gold of El Dorado, Gabriel will open the statue and begin transforming into one of the monsters. Navarro, a mastermind all along, shoots and kills him before taking the statue up through the chamber with a helicopter (taking Elena in tow). Drake will hitch a ride and the copter will crash onto a boat offshore.

This is where the final battle, first against Navarro's guards and finally against the sharpshooter Navarro himself, will occur. When the fight ends, Navarro and the statue will sink into the water, hopefully never to be found again. Sully, having located some pirate gold, comes to pick up Drake and Elena and they sail off into the sunset.
10. How many hidden treasures can be found in the game?

Answer: Sixty-one

Throughout the game, completionists have the opportunity to hunt down little trinkets found throughout the jungle and structures of this Peruvian paradise. Every five treasures will reward the player with a new achievement trophy to a maximum of sixty treasures.

In addition to this, the player will receive an additional trophy for locating the sixty-first treasure, a 'Strange Relic', which can be found in chapter 5. These treasures are usually small nic-nacs ranging from Golden Spoons to Snuff Boxes to little Llama figurines.
