Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following dog breeds look almost identical?

Answer: Yorkshire Terrier and Silky Terrier

Both the Yorkshire Terrier and the Silky Terrier look a lot alike. There are, however, some notable distinctions such as: coat colors, head, and coat clip. The other breeds mentioned have completely different body structures.
2. Which of the following terriers closely resembles the Norfolk Terrier?

Answer: Norwich Terrier

The Norwich and Norfolk Terrier both have similar body structure. The main difference is that the Norwich's ears are held erect while the Norfolk's ears are dropped.
3. Which of the following breeds is physically similar to the Shiba Inu?

Answer: Finnish Spitz

Except for the Shiba Inu's white markings, the Finnish Spitz would look almost identical to it. Face, tail, and obviously origin all differ but overall they make the best match out of the four pairs mentioned.
4. Now let's do some of the lesser known breeds: Which of the following breed pairs look alike?

Answer: Black and Tan Coonhound and Slovakian Hound

Out of all the options the Black and Tan Coonhound and Slovakian Hound are best described as look-alikes. One would think that the Tora Inu and Tosa Inu (one letter difference) would be names for the same breed, but that isn't the case. The Alaskan Husky is technically not a breed, more of a working/mix dog. Lastly the Canadian and American Eskimo Dogs are nothing alike, American eskies are totally white and are usually medium-sized, the Canadian eskie has markings and is a bigger working dog.
5. Which of the following breeds looks like the American Eskimo Dog?

Answer: None of these

None of the mentioned look like the American Eskie. The Shiloh Shepherd is a big dog with a long coat and has the same body structure as the German Shepherd. Niether the Alaskan Klee Kai (a miniature version of the Siberian Husky) nor the Jämthund (a.k.a. the Swedish Elkhound) have any similarities with the American Eskie.
6. What characteristics do the Czech Wolfdog and the Saarloos Wolfhound share?

Answer: Wolfish appearance, erect ears, and German shepherd ancestry.

The Czech wolfdog and Saarloos Wolfhound both definitely have wolfish appearances. They tend to be grey with erect ears and NO curly tails. Both breeds developed from a cross with wolves (of different areas) and the German Shepherd.
7. Which of the following breeds physically resembles the popular Golden Retriever?

Answer: Hovawart

The Hovawarts looks like the Golden Retriever except that it is a bit bigger and the tail looks slightly different. Unlike the Golden Retriever, the Hovawarts can have different coat colors (such as black and tan) and it isn't registered in the AKC.
8. Which of the following breed pairs look almost identical?

Answer: German Spitz and Volpino Italiano

Both the German Spitz and the Volpino Italiano are medium/small white dogs. However, the German Spitz can come in a variety of different colors. The Basset Hound and Dachshund would make a likely match especially because of their body structure but more physical similarities are found in the German Spitz match up.
9. Because of its 'hairless' characteristic, which breed would look a lot like the Xoloitzcuintle?

Answer: Peruvian Inca Orchid

Both the Peruvian Inca Orchid and the Xolo (a.k.a Mexican Hairless) have no (or very little) hair. All the other breeds do have fur, and the Hairless Basenji doesn't exist.
10. Which of these breed pairs DON'T look alike?

Answer: Fila Brasileiro and Neapolitan mastiff

I really hope that you saw the "DONT" in the question. ^_^ The Fila Brasileiro and the Neapolitan Mastiff don't look alike. The Harrier and Fox Hound have very similar markings and body structure. The Kuvasz and Maremma Sheepdog both are large, long coated, white dogs. The Old English and Bearded Collie look a lot alike; however, the Old English is more 'fluffy'.
