Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fur Ann Daw

Answer: Veranda

Not all houses have a large breezy veranda, but instead a front stoop (or step) or a more modest porch. Any of these could be a nice place to sit on a hot summer evening, with or without the company of a loved one. A porch swing would be a nice touch for a courting couple.

Oh, a daw is another name for a jackdaw, a bird in the crow family.
2. Fest Hip You Well

Answer: Vestibule

Many people call the vestibule the front hall, or the entrance hall instead of using the longer word. It's the place where you take off your coat and boots before entering the house proper.
3. Bar Lore

Answer: Parlour

This is an *old* house, so it has a parlour, though a newer place probably calls it a sitting room, living room or lounge. In an older home this would be the place to entertain company.
4. Fa Meal Ear Ohm

Answer: Family room

The family room is the place for more relaxed gatherings, including binge-watching TV shows, alone or as a family. Parties might also be held here.
5. Kid Gen

Answer: Kitchen

Some people think of the kitchen as the most important room in a home, and this is hard to refute. A large kitchen can also serve as a place to eat meals and come together as a family.

"Gen" means information in informal British English, and can also be short for "generation" as in "Gen X".
6. Gum Boot Her Um

Answer: Computer room

Not every house has a dedicated computer room, but most have some space dedicated to such a device. As electronic devices have become more compact and portable, the need for a whole room to house them has diminished.
7. Noor Sore He

Answer: Nursery

Only homes with young children really need a nursery, or baby's room. Once the child has grown out of the specialised room it might be devoted to some other use.

Noor is a given name in Urdu and Arabic, examples being former Queen Noor of Jordan, and Noor Inayat Khan GC, who received the George Cross for her service in Occupied France during WWII.
8. Lawn Tree

Answer: Laundry

Often located in the basement of a house, the laundry (room) is a blessing to anyone who has ever had to spend time feeding coins into a launderette machine, becoming dizzy watching the clothes gyrate inside. Not having to go outside in the cold to get clean clothes is a very good feeling.
9. Mess Terse Wheat

Answer: Master suite

Admission time: Master bedroom was a bit difficult to fracture, so our house has a master suite (complete with en suite bathroom and sitting area) instead. This would typically be the area devoted to the main couple of the family, i.e. the head of household and his or her spouse.
10. Car Dench Head

Answer: Garden shed

Out the back door to the back yard or garden, to find the shed where all the gardening tools - lawn mower, spades, rakes, etc. - are kept.

Dench is a surname, most famously borne by the actress Dame Judi Dench.
