Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After you wash the pan, go line up for the movie.

Answer: Pangolin

...the PAN GO LINe up...

The pangolin, or scaly anteater, is a mammal with a number of species living in Asia and Africa. They are covered in hard keratin scales, which serve as protection when they are threatened.
2. The purple mural reminds me of Madagascar.

Answer: Lemur

...purpLE MURal...

The extra clue here is the mention of Madagascar, the natural home of the primates called lemurs. Their many different species include ring-tailed and red-ruffed lemurs, indri, and mouse lemurs to name a few.
3. While running the tap I remembered this herbivorous mammal's name.

Answer: Tapir

...the TAP I Remembered...

Looking somewhat like a pig, the tapir comes in both New World (South and Central America) and Old World (Southeast Asia) species. Unlike a pig, instead of a snout he has what appears to be an underdeveloped trunk. Oh, yes, the tapir is indeed an herbivorous mammal, as suggested in the question.
4. If you can, tea, Terry, is at four.

Answer: Anteater

...cAN TEA TERry...

Anteaters of the suborder Vermilingua (worm tongue) are to be found in South and Central America, and are more closely related to the sloth than to our friend the pangolin.
5. On a ship, port means left.

Answer: Hippo

...sHIP POrt...

The hippopotamus, hippo for short, can be found semi-submerged in rivers in sub-Saharan Africa (or ponds in North American zoos), and are among my favourite beasts to watch on visits to those zoos. As fascinating as they are to watch, in the wild it is best to give them plenty of space, as they can be violent towards humans and have been known to do them harm.
6. Oh well, I only wanted to help.

Answer: Lion

...welL I ON ly...

King of the beasts is one title given to the lion (Panthera leo), and with his majestic mane and haughty attitude it certainly fits. Never mind that the females do most of the work...
7. Franco, Ugarte was Lorre's character in "Casablanca", not "The Maltese Falcon".

Answer: Cougar

FranCO UGARte...

The cougar has many names: mountain lion, catamount, puma, predatory older female human... The four-footed variety, Puma concolor, can be found throughout most of North and South America.

Ugarte was indeed the name of Peter Lorre's character in the 1942 movie "Casablanca". He was Joel Cairo in the other named film.
8. Did you wash? Are you ready?

Answer: Hare

...wasH ARE...

Hares look like, and are related to, rabbits, but they are a separate species. Hares have longer ears and a longer (by a week or two) gestation period than rabbits.
9. Do you know Al Russell?

Answer: Walrus

...knoW AL RUSsell...

I have no knowledge of anyone named Al Russell, but can tell you that the walrus has large tusks, flippers and an adult male weighs around 1000 kg (just over a ton). The only natural predators of these marine mammals are the killer whale and polar bear.
10. I don't think a demon keyed your car.

Answer: Monkey

...deMON KEYed...

A mischievous monkey might be trained to scratch a car with a key, but it would be more likely that some human vandal was the culprit. There are many different species of monkey, most of them with long tails, and many of them beloved by humans.
