Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which American born actress, who starred in the sitcom "Girls on Top" (1985-86), has been an ardent campaigner for mental health awareness for most of her career?

Answer: Ruby Wax

Born in Illinois in 1953, Wax moved to the UK in her late teens and studied drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Here she met and struck a close friendship with Alan Rickman who would later direct most of her comedy performances on stage. Wax played a loud mouth American on the hit sit-com "Girls on Top" and then gained notoriety presenting English perceptions of Americans in shows such as "The Full Wax" (1991-94) and "Ruby Wax Meets..." (1994-98).

She has made no secret of her battles with depression and has used her profile to create a series of on-line programmes, with the aid of the BBC, that focused on mental health issues. She has also worked tirelessly with charities that support this cause and was rewarded for her work by being appointed an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2015 Special Honours List.

This question was polished and presented by Team Red's pollucci19.
2. Scarlett Moffatt is a British celebrity known for appearing on which television show where viewers watch members of the general public react to popular television events?

Answer: Gogglebox

We're keeping it high brow here - "Gogglebox" debuted in 2013 and featured members of the general public reacting to television events such as the "Britain's Got Talent" performances, the Royal Wedding, or whatever was hot at the time. Its executive producer Tania Hill wanted it to be a "mix of "Harry Hill" and the "Royle Family"". Scarlett Moffatt, born in 1990, first appeared on the show in 2014 having previously "starred" in the MTV show "Beauty School Cop Outs" and went on to win the sixteenth series of "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" in 2016.

This question was one out of the box by Team Red's malik24.
3. Rose Hill played Madame Fanny La Fan in which UK TV comedy between 1982 and 1992?

Answer: 'Allo 'Allo

"'Allo 'Allo" was set in a German occupied French town during WWII and each episode saw the French resistance trying to, and usually succeeding, outwit the German forces, no matter how ridiculous the scheme. Hill, who was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and an operatic soprano played the part of the usually bed ridden mother-in-law of the owner of the cafe frequented by the Germans. She was usually seen either drinking gin or banging her walking stick on the floor, trying to attract attention from her daughter or son-in-law below, while crying out "Will nobody 'ear the cries of a poor old woman?"

The whereabouts of the resistance was not revealed by 480154st in recording this question.
4. Redmond (Red) Symons was born in England but immigrated as a young child to which country, and subsequently became famous as a guitarist in the band 'Skyhooks'?

Answer: Australia

Symons and his family immigrated to Australia in the late 1950s and settled in Victoria. He achieved his Bachelor qualification in pure mathematics and computer science. As part of the band Skyhooks he enjoyed success with such albums as their 1974 debut, "Living in the 70's" and "Ego Is Not a Dirty Word" in 1975. On the iconic "Hey Hey, It's Saturday" (1971-1999) television program, he was a somewhat villainous judge in the segment "Red Faces".

A red faced VegemiteKid was hooked into creating this question.
5. Born Aaron Chwatt, which American Oscar-winning actor took his stage name from a bell hop uniform he used to wear?

Answer: Red Buttons

Red Buttons was an actor/comedian who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the 1957 movie "Sayonara". When he was 16, Aaron Chwatt was working as an "entertaining Bellhop" at a Bronx tavern. Due to his bright red hair and his bellhop uniform he earned the nick-name "Red Buttons". Chwatt then took this as his stage name in New York.

This question was dressed up and presented, all nice and shiny, by leith90.
6. In which television series does Rose Leslie plays a wildling character named Ygritte who has a love-hate relationship with one of the lead characters, shooting him with three arrows when he tells her he must leave?

Answer: Game of Thrones

Scottish born Leslie got her first real breakthrough as the housemaid Gwen Dawson during the first season of the television series "Downton Abbey" (2010). However, it was her work as the wildling Ygritte in seasons two (2102), three (2013) and four (2014) of the HBO series "Game of Thrones" that has significantly boosted her career. In this series she is captivated and then falls in love with Jon Snow. As one critic proclaimed, "she elevated her character beyond that of the book" (Christopher Orr, The Atlantic Magazine).

Team Red's Triviaballer managed to hit the mark with this question.
7. Which Canadian born actress starred in the 1933 film "42nd Street", with her regular screen partner Dick Powell?

Answer: Ruby Keeler

Ruby Keeler appeared in several films between 1930 and 1941, with "42nd Street" being probably the best known. Apart from Powell, Bebe Daniels and Ginger Rogers also appeared. Ruby was married to Al Jolson from 1928 until 1940, and retired from making movies when she remarried in 1941. She made a come back in the 1960s and 1970s, primarily on television and on the stage.

Team Red's rossian managed to extract this ruby from a mountain of rocks.
8. Red Skelton was a man of diverse talent, however, which of the following was *NOT* one of his accomplishments?

Answer: Politician

In addition to Skelton's entertainment career, which spanned over 70 years, he authored short stories and published six books. He began painting and it wasn't until almost 20 years later that he showed his work. It's been estimated that his income from paintings and lithographs was more than his television earnings. His Anza Valley home was a 600-acre horse ranch and he grew Bonsai trees in his Palm Springs home. In a 1977 interviw he said, "I take little trees and shape them the way I want rather than trying to shape people."

9. Which country music legend, known for songs like "Old Shep", "Peace in the Valley", and "Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy", hosted the show "Ozark Jubilee" from 1955 to 1960?

Answer: Red Foley

Clyde "Red" Foley (1910-1968) was not only a country and gospel singer, but also a TV show host and radio personality. He made big efforts to expand country music's popularity by trying to make songs that would appeal to wider audiences. "Old Shep", a song which he co-wrote with Arthur Willis, became a classic of country music. He was awarded two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for his music and the other for his TV career. In addition to hosting "Ozark Jubilee", he was a member of the Grand Ole Opry and hosted the "Prince Albert Show" for NBC.

This question came complete with a little bit of "Birmingham Bounce" from tiffanyram.
10. In October 2014, Scarlett Johansson married Frenchman Romain Dauriac, a businessman. They had a daughter, Rose together but they divorced in 2017. Ms Johansson was previously married to which Canadian-American actor?

Answer: Ryan Reynolds

Scarlet Johansson was born in Manhattan in New York City in 1984. She is of Danish and Polish descent. She married Ryan Reynolds, (born 1976 in Vancouver) in his home town in 2008, but divorced him in 2010. They were never in a movie together but they were both cast as super-heroes at approximately the same time. Mr Reynolds was cast as Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool) in 2009's" X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

The character, Deadpool, would later develop into a franchise of its own. Also in 2009 Ms Johansson was cast as the Black Widow in "Iron Man 2" (2010).
